This is a legit number. I called the number on the back of my credit card and they confirmed it.

YES THIS IS FROM CITI, however things these days can easily be faked so be smart and just call the citi number on the back of your card. It will automatically redirect you to this number if it is legit.

Citi Fraud line - Android blocked it but after googling the #, I found this page.  I called the # on the card and they had flagged my Amex account due to odd use.  (all legit charges but they wanted to be sure)

My phone has received several calls from this number.  Funny thing is, the automated message says it's from Citi Dividend World Master Card's fraud department attempting to reach William Walters about suspicious activity on his account ending in 4597, AND THERE IS NO SUCH PERSON ASSOCIATED WITH MY PHONE NUMBER...for 13 years now.

Last week's version of the calls said that Mr. Walters had until 11/12 to call back and retrieve his message and if he didn't meet the deadline his card would be suspended. Today, I just received another call for the same person regarding the same account only now the deadline for returning the bank's call is 11/17.  So, I called the number, thinking I could use "0" to get to a live operator to straighten out this mess, but the only two options were to press "1" if I'm William Walters or to press "5" if I'm not.  Pressing "5" gave me the same voice message about getting William Walters to call back with the fraud warning's access code that my answering machine has been recording.

My next step: Google "Citi Dividend World Master Card" to get a different 800 number associated with the issuing bank.  I eventually spoke with a woman at Citi's "Lost and Stolen" department who told me that Citi never issues automated messages with the wording as I repeated it to her (her quote: "We never include any customer account information and never give deadlines for returning the call").  She also looked up 800-386-6624 in her list of official Citi phone numbers and said that it was not the number of Citi's fraud department and that it wasn't even a real Citi number.

William Walters, if you're out there, you're on your own.  I tried to help.

I got a text from "Citi Cards Fraud Dept" asking me to call 8003866624 and enter a pin.  I called the number on the back of my card instead and asked them if the text was legitimate.  They said it was.  And they had a question about one of my authorized charges.

I signed up for Citi's online account management last night and got a call this morning stating they were just verifying that I did so.  They requested that I call the number on the back of the card if I had any further questions.  This is a legit Citi number, no scam.

The fact they were contacting the person who posted here on Nov 14 is most likely that Citi had been given, or someone had entered the wrong telephone number for the given account.  Mistakes like that can happen.   The number to call is legitimate, and will let you know the last 4 digits of the card and the name on the card.  Scammers phishing for credit card numbers generally do not have all that info.)

I got the call also  from that number and they left a message.
To me it appears to be a legit Citi Bank number because I just got a new Cit Card and they left a message saying thanks for opening a new account and registering online.
There were no requests for my information, to call back or anything trying to be sold, so my call seemed to be legit.

I received a call from this number and it was legit, it was Citibank calling to confirm my online registration. The fact is however, anyone can spoof their number to appear like any other number they want, you can even download some phone apps to do this.  So even if this number is calling you or another number you trust you still cant be sure unless you call them back or know them personally. When someone calls and is trying to scam you 9 times out of 10 they will not leave a msg or call back number because they have no way to intercept your call, if you dial the number you will be connected to that number.

    Confused replies to Sam
Ya just got off the phone with Citi & indeed it is them. However, I totally agree you should NOT give out anything without going thru the number on the back of ur card-how else would u know the # is legit! Further the rep said this is a new program to tell u there is no fraud activity on ur card-told him this is crazy and got me all upset and concerned. Fraud notices should be for suspected activity not that everything is OK. Guess they will reassess..

Yeah it was real - Citibank was concerned about some charges. But probably it is safest to call the 1-800 number on the back of your card. It's what I did, and turns out all the charges were ones I had made, so nothing had to be fixed. Glad they're paying attention

Same here.  Called the customer service number off the website and confirmed that this, indeed, is Citibank calling.  There were 12 unauthorized charges made to my account in the last three days, all online purchases.  Their Fraud Department ROCKS!

This is Citibank trying to protect you.  Thank God they called me when they did. I had a family member staying with me for Thanksgiving holiday who stole me blind.  They made numerous cash withdrawals on all of my credit card accounts- the only bank that caught this activity was Citi- once I spoke to them we confirmed that almost $1000 had been stolen + that prompted me to check all my other accounts- and of course- cash advances had been taken out on all my accounts- I flew a family member out for thanksgiving- and they stole me blind.  Call this number back immediately if they call you.

This apparently was a valid alert, however as others have said NEVER call a number you are given.  This applies to email as well - NEVER click a link in an email for an online account; go to the merchant/bank/etc... website directly and log in yourself.

Anyway, for credit cards, use the number on the back of your card only, never contact the card issuer through any other phone number.

Saw the number on caller and ID.  I googed and saw that it was Citi Bank.  I called the number on the back of the card.  They said they were NOT trying to call me today and there was no suspicious activity on the card.  The rep said that today he has had several calls stating that Citi bank has called.  In this case, it is a fraud as I called Citi Bank and they said NO they had not called and the fact that the rep said several people are complaining about this.  Beware and call the card number on the back and check. If it is Citibank why does it not read that on the caller ID.  The caller ID reads Unknown.

Oops, I called again and this is from Citi bank.  But, call the number on the back of the card.  They are tracking purchases that are not scanned, such as automatic withdrawal payments, etc.  They want to make sure it is not a scam.  I saw too many comments of it being Citibank and decided to call again.  I talked to a different rep and they did inquire about a suspicious activity.  It is on the level but call the number on the back of your card.  Never give any information on the phone, no matter who calls.

Citibank's incredibly overactive fraud department called AGAIN when my son tried to pay the electric bill online in the UK.

I have been on the phone, over and over this with Citibank, and have repeatedly asked them to note tat my son lives in the UK , and is allowed to charge anything he wants there, and on the Continent, to the account. They say they will note it, but it never "sticks."  My son studies and lives in the UK and uses his Citibank Mastercard on a daily basis to buy groceries, pay for meals, buy books, and pay the utility bills  and the ISP. Sometimes he travels to Europe.

We have NEVER had a fraudulent charge on this card that originated in the UK or Europe, but Citibank regularly blocks my son's needed purchases. They are quite unresponsive to consumer needs--their way, or the highway!

As the name suggests, it IS Citi calling to see why you are using your CC so darn much.  It's a warning that someone else might be doing it.
