- Vesper replies to It's A Fraud| 1 replyThe first time I received a call from this number, I came to this site. Super leery after reading everyone's contradicting posts. The second time I received the call, I answered my cell phone WITHOUT saying "hello" to see what would happen. After a few seconds of silence, the automated voice message began.
The number displayed on your cell phone IS from Citi Bank for your Citi (credit) Card.
In my case, I had recently applied for a new card, received it, activated it and then registered for online account access.
For me, the automated messaging system first asked if I was who I was (my full name). In the way a computer would read your name out loud; all disjointed and mispronounced. I comfirmed by pressing #1.
Then it asked me to verify my mailing address by ONLY entering the zip code. After that, the message informed me that an online account was recently opened (which it gave me the option to confirm if the action was accurate or not). Since I did indeed register online, I confirmed yes. And that was the end of the call.
My guess is, anytime you perform actions that's out of the ordinary or multiple actions simultaneously, it alerts them. I didn't speak to a live person and nothing personal was asked but a zip code. I have not used my card once since I've activated it. I believe it's just a safety precaution. - Citi Dividend Cardholder1-800-386-6624 is the Fraud Department of CitiCards.
I dialed the number on the back of my card to verify the voice message I received instructing me to dial 800-386-6624. The number I dialed was 1-866-775-0556. It can be verified here: https://www.citicards.com/cards/acq/cma.do After some security questions, the person verified that the number left on the voice message was the real number for the Fraud Department. I recommend callling the number on the back of your card. - JeremyThis is legit. I didn't believe it at first, but then I logged in to my citi bank account online and it showed a message about fraud on my account. I then called the number on the back of my card and they also mentioned the fraud alert. Don't wait. Call the back of your card.

- pissed shopper replies to JWent to Macy's to buy wife a giuft yesterday. After I got to front of line the lady at register screams out loud "YOUR CARD I SNO GOOD, IT IS BEING REJECTED BY CITIBANK". Needsless to say after the redness in my face subsided, I handed her a different card and bought it and hgot out. Got home and there was an email giving me a PIN to call Cicitbak Fraud. After "press 1 and press 2 and press 1 and press 2 ...you know, they poresented me with three purchases : the first one was Ok and pressed 1, the second one was OK and presed 1, the thgird one was "FROM UNIDENTIFIED MERCHANT FRO $1100.00". Of course i pressed no and got a very sweet young lady (from the Philippines- heavy accent but undersandable after I asked her to speak slowly and clearly", she PROFUSELY and I meadn she mustt have been licking the phone because "thatt $1100.00 charge supoosedly I had made fraudulently was actually my last PAYMENT" to citibank!. She sais it was all clear and initially refused to give me any more ID on her except her name which was supposedly "KIT". Finally after I pressed I wanted a supervisor she have me bunch of letters and numbers as her "ID". My impression: Citibank is getting like Bank of America --terrible customer service.
- Alan replies to SamNot legitimate. No, your card probably has not been stolen, but it is citibank being very clumsy. Same thing happened with Wells Fargo; they were clumsy, but then someone did start exploiting them using phony calls like this. Just call the number on your card. Call them every 10 minutes, apparently.
- KimThis is an actual correct Citi card #. They wanted to verify a charge on my account and my account was on hold and they left me a number of messages. I called the number on the back of my card and they confirmed that this was them. NOT FRAUD
- anonit IS Citibank. I just recently got approved for the card, and signed up for online access yesterday. And I got a call from that number today with a recording just to verify it was me who enrolled.
Nothing more.
I was not asked to call back.- Caller: Citi
- Call type: Event reminder
- wolert| 1 replyThe message left says "Please call back the phone number on the back of Citi credit card", which proved this is not a scam but a real citi number.

- Jon B.| 1 replyIn my case this was a legitimate call from Citibank. It left a voicemail which was simply a recorded message that asked for no information and said that they were verifying that I had signed up on their website.
As always, the best practice if these calls ask for information is to call the number on the back of your card and proceed that way. It may very well be legitimate, but that is still the best security practice.- Caller: Citibank
- Cory| 2 repliesThis is definitely Citi Bank. I was approved for one of their cards and registered an online account access. I did not answer the call. The recording stated that they called to verify that I did register an online access account.
They said that I do not need to call back unless I did not create the online access account or I have other questions. They stated that they do confirm all account activations, registrations, and changes to account information.
No one else could know that I just registered online. Whoever keeps saying this isn't Citi is an IDIOT!- Caller: Citi Bank

Why would so many people look up a number they already know, then post that it is a real number??
Of course they wouldn't.
These are shills, trying to cover up what is in fact some sort of scam or phishing fraud.
Don't be fooled. Don't respond or give any information to this caller, or call back on this line. If you need to talk to the bank, use the number shown on your bank statement. - It Ain't Citibank replies to Jon B.Repeated shill postings here insisting the call is from Citibank.

Again, it's a phishing fraud folks - I confirmed it with Citibank!!! - MarkI tried to use my Citicard online last night for an unusual big amount and received a call this morning from this number. I logged in to my Citi account online and there was a message indicating that I have to call them back so I called the number on the back of the card. Instead of going through all the menus as usual after I provided my account number I was transferred to a representative right away. There is a lot of contradicting information about the legitimacy of this number but based on my experience this morning it looks legit. However If I don't initiate the call I don't provide any information so I did not answer the call.
- Scam Avoider| 1 replyI also confirmed that this number is a fraud:
https://online.citibank.com/US/JRS/pands/detail.do?ID=SpotStopFraud
It's pretty obvious that the postings claiming the number is real are all fake, some using elaborate stories that are almost identica to fake posts appearing on 800notes threads regarding fake calls from Chase Bank, VISA, PayPal, HSBC, TD Bank, and others. I've sent these links to Citibank as well for their review.- Caller: Phishing Scam
