- Allisan EmesTold them
Not interested 100 times- Caller: Hp
- tonyI checked it out tho is a scanner dont fall for this the number is legimate but hp doesn't call customers. Its being reported by the real company
- UnamusedThe call from this 800 number was clearly from an auto-dialer and the pretty heavily accented male voice started with, "I'm calling from microsoft technical support..." I interrupted, said I was familiar with the scam and would be hanging up. It was short, but another testament to the uselessness of the Do Not Call Directory and someone's ability to protect their toll-free number from spoofing...or whatever phrase describes this criminal activity.
- Caller: Allegedly Microsoft
- Call type: Telemarketer
- IT GuyMost likely a spoofed support number related to HP support, but definitely NOT HP support. I just got 2 calls from this number into my direct office line about an hour apart. I didn't answer the first call, the second one I did answer just so I could unleash my rage and blow-off some pent up steam on the @$$-hats who keep trying to scam the users in my office. The caller claims they are calling about my HP computer, well, here's news for you, jerk-face... I don't have HP computers here. Go piss up a rope. Don't buy into these scams, folks.
- Caller: Scammer claiming to be HP support
- Call type: Telemarketer
- BJThese individual will put a bug in your system and then you have to pay and pay and pay to get it out. They never do get it out because they want to steal your money. Do not talk to them or Definitely DO NOT CONNECT your computer to theirs.
- Caller: Fake HP
- BJ replies to JeffP| 3 repliesI hope you didn't let them connect to your computer via internet. If you did, you have a big problem. I would get their software off of your ASAP. IT is a scam. HP does not call you for service technical support. They are not allowed to
- Kasey replies to Eat meAgreed. This is 100% a scam. HP confirmed this for me. HP said they will never call unless you request a call from them. Don't believe anyone from this number. They tried to remote into my computer to fix supposed viruses.
- AMK| 1 replyThis is a SCAM. They said they were HP calling to fix a problem then after they got access to my computer said I would have to pay. When I told them to get off my computer they went into CMD and started doing things. I had to physically turn off my computer to get them off. They keep calling even now - IT IS A SALES CALL using scare tactics. I have no critical errors on my computer and the only time I saw issues is when they accessed my computer (under false pretenses). I am filing an FTC complaint. Don't answer this number! They keep calling using scare tactics but I just stopped answering the number.
- Caller: 800-474-6836
- BigA replies to AMKYes, this is a well known scam, but you have bigger problems since you let them into your computer.
Thanks to Slim, another registered poster here and computer whiz:
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID on Facebook or other social site(s), and perhaps on shopping sites.
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer.
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. Backup non-executable personal, data files to an external storage device. (Executable files might be infected).
8. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
9. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
10. Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
11. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!
You fell for one scam, and might be susceptible to others mentioned on this site:

Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!
Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!
Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!

- BebeI have HP Support. The real ones. They never ever call you. These scammers say they are HP, Microsoft, IT Support and once they get your info, they will lock up your computer and charge you hundreds of dollars to fix until the next time they lock it up again.

- MicheleI keep getting a call from a guy who says my computer is sending him a message to call him because there is a virus. Total Scam!!
- Caller: Hewlett packard
- annoyedCalled this afternoon; caller said he was from HP technical support and they had reports that my HP computer had been downloading a lot of (possibly?) bad files.
I told him I wasn't as dumb as he thinks I am & hung up- Caller: "Unavailable"
- DaveScammer. Said my HP computer contracts their HP server to log a virus on my machine. I have never in my life owned a HP machine. LoL Fairly understandable East Indian accent, as usual.
- Caller: "HP Technical Support"
- Call type: Telemarketer
- robertthis # calls my cell everyday and womnt answer
- Caller: dont know
- LoraleiThis number has called 5 times in less than 2 hours. They will not say anything when I answer and won't leave a message when I don't answer. I do not own anything HP so if it is them they have no reason to be calling me.
- Caller: 8004746836
- Sarah| 1 replyThis is creepy. They called me twice and I asked them if they were legit. He acted like he didn't understand my question. I asked him to prove he is really with HP and he gave me my serial number off the back of my computer. Scary! Then he proceeds to tell me they will replace my computer with a new one for $100. I asked how that would work and he told me to go ASAP and get a target or ITunes gift card for $100 at the nearest store and call back with the 12 digit code and they will send me a new computer in 3 days. I don't care who you are but you had best believe HP won't offer to give you a new computer for $100. When I asked them why they would do this they replied, "we know your computer has had problems and there has been hackers on it". This is not real. Please don't fall for it.
