    Annoyed once again.
First of all, this was NOT HP calling and I am surprised that few people here did not know that from the start.  These are criminals using a spoofed caller ID.  They said that I was going to get a $150.00 refund and they needed me to press a sequence of keys on my computer to make sure it was working okay.  Had I followed their instructions, my computer would have been locked up and I would have to pay them a ransom or all my data would be lost.  Like any other blackmailer, the moment you pay the first time, they own you.  Their primary objective is to get your credit card and that's the long and the short of it.  (If only they tried this at my front door in person instead of by telephone -- that would be a dream come true.)

Caller:  A scum sucking low life thief who spoofed 800 474-6836.
    • Caller: A cowardly thief caller.

    Dawn
I got a call from this number at 6:00 am. When I asked if they realized what time it was, the woman said No and I informed her that it was 6:00 am and she told me it was late and that I should be out of bed already. I promptly told her never to call me again, in not so many nice words. Then I hung up on her and blocked the number. How rude!!!!!

    Don't fall for this clone.
800 474-6836 is a legitimate HP telephone number, but it has been cloned by scammers who are pretending to be from HP. These thieves are out to disable your computer and obtain your credit card data. Talking to them = a waste of time.

Caller: A well established team of off-shore scammers.

    No patience with idiots
A two-fold approach in their scam -  They will call repeatedly and will not speak in order to elicit your response of calling them back. Since they are cloning one of HP's legitimate telephone numbers as their ID, if you call back you will in fact reach HP.  This supposedly gives them an element of legitimacy, so when they call you and they decide to respond, you will hopefully believe they are calling from HP.  Well, of course they are not HP and their scam is to advise you that they owe you a refund -- but first -- you must go to your computer to connect with them so they can delete and corrupt files, repurposing your computer as a handy boat anchor.  Wonder of wonders, they just so happen to be able to repair it for you.  Their scam is to permanently disable your computer and run charges up on your credit card -- the latter being the ONLY reason why they contacted you.

Caller:  These are the same creeps who call -- depending upon the time and day of the week -- pretending to be the IRS and scores of other agencies, all designed to get to your credit card.

Don't trust HP scammers  at this number
HP at this number called me and didn't leave a message.  When I called it back it was in India and at at 2 AM their time.  I could only talk to them if I had just purchased an HP or had a contract.  I asked why I was called out of the blue.  They told me it must have been a scammer and I needed to pay them since I had an older computer and no contact with them but they could fix it for me.  I said why did you call me?  They didn't but the phone number was the one I got them on.  They had to know my full name and email, but they couldn't send me a message or give me their headquarters address so I could complain to HP.  I only could go onto the www.hp.com to get help or report theses scammers at this phone number.  While I talk to them I went to that website and asked where to I report their scammers to HP they couldn't give me where on the website to report it I was only directed to FTC to report it.  I spent 3 hours with them and they could never talk to any one about the scammers.  Don't trust this phone number as a good company for HP.  They were the scammers I asked them their company Id and only got RANI  no company number or any other information.  No HP address only that they were in India and all the background was in Indian English.  They kept on the line and kept if there was anything else she could help me with.  I said her supervisor to report the scammers with their phone number, she could not give me her supervisor only their tech people who I also talked to but he could only help me for a fee.  I said I wan't going to pay them to get into my computer to have access I only  want to know why they called me.  He couldn't answer that unless he got into my computer.  No sense of his replies.  I asked if they know who the FTC was also the FBI and the BBB, they did but didn't care that I was going to report them to all of these people.  They were 800-474-6836 but they are not HP only Scammers.

If you read the other posts in this thread (5 whole pages worth) you would have your answer. But here, I'll be generous and summarize it all for you: This number is a scammer, claiming to be from HP, trying to get into your computer. Do NOT give them access; better yet, don't even speak to them. Just block and ignore their calls.

Not HP - # is CLONED
800-474-6836 is one of many telephone numbers assigned to HP -- but this particular collection of low-life pond scum from India has cloned it to make it appear like they are from HP.  Their mission is to render your computer useless while charging your credit card to the limit.  They call here on average, five times a day.  Their first couple of calls each day are intentional hangups, which is part of their ruse to prompt many people to initiate a call back.  Guess what?  If you do call that number back, you will in fact reach HP.  What a big surprise.  It's part of their groundwork to bolster the notion that when they do stay on the line and speak, you might believe that call to be authentic.   Their latest ploy is to tell you that the reason for their call is to give you a $199.00 refund, because they are honest.  After that, it's back to the business of executing their scam. Be prepared to break out your computer and follow their instructions so they may render it useless by remote control.  Then have your credit card handy to give up all the data so they may turn the rest of your world upside down.  The last guy I spoke with could barely speak English with an accent so thick you could cut it without a knife.  It was difficult not to burst out with a fit of laughter the moment he identified himself as "John Smith".  Yup, he blended in like a regular Yankee.

Recieved phone call from this number asking for my boss, I let him know he was not in the office and asked if he would like to leave a message. He said "Yes" then there was a long pause and when I asked again if he had a message, he said "Yes, I want to kiss you." Upon clarification he said the same thing, 3x.
Just another odd call from this number.

I get calls from this number two or three times a day starting at 5:30 a.m. Most of the time no one is on the line. When I did get a person I was told that HP Refund Services wanted to refund me $49 for services they provided in 2016. All I needed to do was get in front of my computer to start the refund process. I hung up.  They immediately called back and asked why I hung up. Told them they were a scam and hung up. Now I get calls from them daily. This number comes up on my caller ID so I do not answer. Contacted FTC about this problem. This is harassment of the highest degree.

This is a spoofed number. They claim to be HP support, and want you to access your computer. I get told that I have a refund of $349.99 or $350 and when I ask them to refund the original payment methord, they start getting nasty. Just hang upon them and block the number. HP support will email you if it is really them.

Hewlett Packard has been calling me for over 2 months from this number starting at 4:45 a.m. and continuously throughout the day.  I have asked them to stop calling but they only call all the more!!  When I let the answering machine pick up the call they never leave a message.  I have reported them each and every time they call with the FTC and now I finally have a reference number so hopefully this number will be investigated and the calls will cease.  When they asked for my husband and I told them he was not here they just hung up.  Keep reporting them and hopefully they will be investigated and stop calling.  Good luck to everyone.

I agree with you that this is blatant harassment and needs to stop.  I get calls from them from early morning throughout the day.  When they first started calling I asked them to please stop calling but it just made them call all the more!!  I let the answering pick it up now and they never leave a message.  I phoned the FTC and have a reference number now and was advised to just not answer their calls.  Hope your problem will be resolved.

I am getting daily calls from this # and I have blocked this no.  I am getting calls as early as 7:30 a.m. eastern time.  My understanding, since I spoke with a entirely different #, these people are from a different company and not directly with HP.  I told them to stop calling and now I get daily calls-3 times so far today.
