Just got this call too, and it was suspicious since I don't have a mortgage with Wells Fargo.  I told them I didn't know why they were calling me and they were able to look up my phone number (I certainly wasn't going to provide any other personal details) and tell me who they were trying to reach.  It was a "Mr. Edwards," to which I responded that they had the wrong number and they apologized and we both hung up.....

These people (says her name is Amy) continue to leave messages on my work phone.  The message they leave is that they are attempting to collect a debt.  Well, the person called during the day and I actually talked to this person.  She stated that my mortgage payments were late.  I told her that was her problem as Wells Fargo takes my payments out automatically and if they hadn't take the payment out it was on them, not me.  She immediately hung up on me.  But amazingly enough, she left another message last night on my voice mail at my office.  Anyone who calls you from your mortgage company or bank and says you need to have your loan number or account number handy is working a scam.  If they are really from your bank or mortgage company THEY WILL ALREADY HAVE ALL OF THAT INFORMATION.  Don't be fooled by these people!!!

They call, let it ring once and hang up at least 5 times a day, about every hour and a half.  Very annoying!!

I have received many calls from 800-678-7986, and several from the 612 area code number. I have a mortgage with Wells Fargo but if it was related to my mortgage wouldn't they leave a message? I don't answer the calls because the days, times of day, and the frequency of the calls seem to violate the debt collection guidelines. If it is Wells Fargo then they are skirting dangerously close to an investigation into their debt collection practices, because they're causing people a lot of stress and anxiety.

This is Wells Fargo Home Mortgage calling because you are more than 4 days late on your payment. If you don't have a mortgage with them then asked to have your phone number removed from the system. I have not had a rude person yet. They just want to help their customers with any mortgage problems.

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage continuously calls, hangs up whenever I answer the HR work phone.  I immediately called the number back and there is a recording stating this is an attempt to collect a debt and the call will be recorded.  Then the recording asks for Loan # an/or SS#; later the recording gives wesite address to statement for taxes from them; also all representatives are busy -- please have your Loan # ready, etc. I have received numerous calls daily and no one answers.  Wells Fargo Home Mortgage is evidently quite busy trying to collect $, but always have you on hold an extremely long length of time.  I gave the direct contact #s for the employees, yet Wells Fargo Home Mortgage continuously calls HR -- they are rude in hanging up not leaving messages and putting people on hold and not informing HR of person(s) they need to speak with.   I am feed up with them and have reported them to my immediate supervisor and our Switchboard, but to no avail.

It is Wells Fargo.  We missed our payment.....miscommunication between me and my bride.  It is also listed on their website.

    https://www.wellsfargo.com/homeassist/?dm=DMIWESERH2

They were accurate and we were wrong.  Payment made...we are back on course.   I understand the suspicions; however, I don't understand the anger (and misinformation) being distributed in the above postings.  I can only guess why that is.

First: it is Wells Fargo. They won't not call just because you ask them not to. They think you owe them money and they are going to call. If you don't owe them money, you will have to find a way to get them to understand that. Just saying so, unfortunately, isn't enough.

Second: the "Amy" in the voicemail is a robot. Not your personal account rep or anything. There is no such person as Amy.

Third: We had calls from this number many times a day when we were unemployed and trying to find a way to keep the house. I probably spoke with over a hundred different Wells Fargo employees in trying to work out the modification. The people calling have no choice as to who they call or not. They just sit at their desk and wait for the computer to tell them who they are talking to. They have never heard of you until the moment you answer the phone and your info pops up on their screen.

In other words, the person on the other end of the phone knows nothing about your account or situation. It's incredibly frustrating but honestly, compared to Chase, the people at Wells Fargo are connsumate professionals.

ID said Toll Free Call, was a prerecorded message from Wells Fargo. No one that works in our 2 person clinical office has a mortgage with them so it's either spam OR someone gave them our # to detract from themselves.

It's a scam...so much so that the scam people come on to sites like this and say it's not a scam...which just reinforces that it is a scam

When I called them back after several calls of them hanging up when I answered, they swear it is an issue with their automated system. I suggest they fix the problem, since it is incredibly rude to hang up on someone.

THis is wells fargo.  They called my parent's house!  I called them to ask why they were calling my parents and it's because my mortgage payment that was due on June 1 has not been received yet.  It's June 8th!  are you kidding me?!?!?!?  They don't even charge a late fee until the 15th.  I'm not sure which is more annoying, the fact that they are calling on a payment that's not even really late or the fact that they called my parent's house, in another area code, at a residence I haven't lived at in 15 years on a phone number that i've never provided to them.  I'm sure they probably got my old address off my credit report and then did a reverse look-up of my parents address to obtain the phone #, which is a total invasion of privacy and most likely illegal.

I make my payment every month when my disability check arrives. My mortgage is always paid each month before I buy food or electricity or insurance or medicine or heat or air conditioning.... Yet I still receive calls and threatening letters and rude text messages "from their debt collectors". Wells Fargo told me they could/ would start calling, texting and emailing me if I'm just one day late. I've literally begged for them to let me change my pay date to the day of the month my disability check arrives, and if I've talked to 20 different reps they've given me 20 different reasons why they can't. I've had my home for 22 years, and I've paid each month for 22 years. I pray for the opportunity to either  refinance or pay it off. Wells Fargo and high gas costs are the biggest cause of stress in my life. I used to respect Wells Fargo but that's gone down the drain with their years of tormenting me. It's a shame. I wonder what would happen if I were two months late? Would they send goons in black leather coats and gloves with bats to beat me up? Shame on them. Shame on their scare tactics. Shame on their CEO who allows it. I've worked for decades and paid my taxes and my bills. Yet this is how they treat me. I pray for anyone that falls behind more then a few days. It must be very frightening.

It's Wells Fargo.  If you're on a loan modification and don't pay on the 1st, they will call you everyday until you do pay it.  The calls immediately stop once payment is received.

No. It's not a scam. They ask that you have your loan number ready for YOUR protection. They have to verify that they have the right person.

Gee. I don't know what the motivation is from people who claim this is a scam or phishing attempt.

They obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

The number is listed on the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage website here:
