I got a call from this number, they claimed to be my bank, and used a name +initial that I only use at the bank.
They said there was fraudulent charges on my card and they needed my zip to confrim.

I hung up and called my bank and there was a block on my ATM card. Apparently the caller was trying to get my zip code to continue using my bank card as they already made multiple charges. Well Fargo was able to cancel my card and was able to stop the fraudulent charges.

The Wells Fargo rep said that Wells Fargo will NEVER call out from an 800 number, and I did right by calling them.

Why then, when I called Wells Fargo did they tell me the number was fake?
Is this website infected with scammers now?

Wells Fargo contacts by e-mail if there's a problem. Therefore through experience, I know the call was fraudulant or scam. I hung up immediately.

This is a scam. All these posts are scams. Do not give the callers from this number any info. Go to WF location or call number on the back of the card. Get a job worthless people.

I just got a call from this number also stating to be Wells Fargo. My account has been debited since Sept of 2015 with someone in Virginia using my card. I called the number on the back of the card after this.

My goodness, Anonymous. All that effort and all those words just to prove beyond doubt that you're a conspiracy theorist with too much time on your hands. It is absolutely Wells Fargo, and thank God they call; most of the time it's just charges that raise some kind of "flag" (because the purchase is routed internationally, it seems) but are actually legitimate, but they have also caught fraudulent charges I didn't even notice, and would not have been reimbursed for if they had not alerted me.

You really need to stop. It isn't that funny; you could be misleading people into not dealing with the possibility of unauthorized activity on their account, which is a serious matter that fortunately Wells Fargo takes the trouble to help its depositors resolve.

I don't know, maybe you're lying or drunk. I just got one of those calls tonite; I did not pick up (thought it was a telemarketer, whatever) and when I returned the call after listening to the voicemail I did NOT call the 800-704-0855 number, but the main number on the back of the card; I cleared up the fraud stuff (it wasn't fraud, just something set off their 'alarm'), and then mentioned that all these people are going around online telling others not to trust the number. The Wells Fargo customer service rep just laughed and said of course it's real, not all calls from WF come from the same number, etc. She did say that there are of course scammers who'll pretend to be anything to get your info, and that if it's legit they'll only confirm identity with the least intrusive info possible.

But yes! For once and for all time! The number at issue on this page (actually, many pages) is REAL! It is Wells Fargo! But if you're really feeling squeamish and timid about accepting the call, or returning it, just do what I did and call the regular number on the card. It's the exact same thing, but at least you won't have any fearful, sleepless nights.

Huh; that's weird. As I say above, I just had the same experience, called Wells Fargo direct and they confirmed this 800 number is legit.

That's just nuts. Every card company or bank calls directly if there's suspicion of fraud. I don't believe you've ever had a credit card or bank account.

Yes it is. Confirmed it with Wells Fargo directly, after I received (but did not answer) a call from the 704-0855 number.

You guys need to stop scaring people. You may be responsible for someone not dealing with actual fraudulent activity on their account.

Anyway, if anyone IS too scared to call back this number, just call WF's number on the back of your card, and they'll confirm it. But don't just let it go because ignorant people are misleading you.

Just because it was LEGIT for you doesn't mean scammers aren't spoofing the number to appear legit THEMSELVES!

This is fraud. Phishing for identity theft. Do not call this number back. Any one who says otherwise is part of the scam.

You are right and I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't believe you, they called me and instead of answering Since it was unrecognizable number I googled it and it lead me to this page. I went and signed on to my Wells Fargo account and there was nothing fishy going on. It is most definitely a scam. Thank you for your insight!

    Be careful!
Apparently, the people saying it's a scam are part of the scam. Those saying that the number is legit are correct. I called the regular Wells Fargo number and they confirmed the 800 number is the fraud department. I had a few very small fraudulent transactions on my account. They are trying to see who is paying attention and who isn't. They want you to think the 800 number is a scam SO YOU WILL IGNORE IT. Call the number on the on the back of your card. They will confirm what I'm saying, cancel your card, and send you a new one.

Okay dumb people who believe this is WellsFargo.  I have a lock on all my accounts, if there is activity that is suspicious, I hear from my "credit monitoring" before these jokers.  Go ahead and give them your info, you deserve to have your accounts drained by these scammers.  Holy smokes people, call the numbers on your CARD....this is not one of them!

Received call. Out of 5 transactions 1 was not mine. I was disconnected. When I called back, call would not go through. I called the 800-869-3557 customer service number and rechecked my last 10 transactions. One small one was not mine but Wells Fargo had already reversed it because it was from out of state. I talked to a representative and told her what happened.  She  suggested I replace my debit card. She also checked the phone number 800-704-0855.  It is not a Wells Fargo number.  People who say it is are probably part of the scam. Call the Wells Fargo customer service.
