- CaitlinI got a voicemail from this number today. I called the wells fargo number on the back of my card like it says(because I was sketchy about the voicemail) . Turns out someone tried to use my card online! Not a fake number. Call wells fargo ASAP. I'm glad they caught it!
- Caller: 1-800-704-0855
- Joe replies to hypnoThis was a legit. Even if you don't wanna submit the info they are asking, call the number on your card. This number called several times, and i called wells, turned out someone used my card.

- manda!!! :-)(Long message) This number is not a scam as that there was purchased which was declined from my brother's card from someone who pretended to be him but was living in a different country and not in the USA where we do. Someone from Sweden attempted to take over $67 from my brother's card but it was declined, make sure this doesn't happen to you and stay safe. If this number calls you, please listen to their voicemail!! If something from your transaction within your own card was used (name sounds unfamiliar [the person or the item that was bought but declined], the amount that was spent, or anything that you personally didn't make, stay within the voicemail and call back so a representative of Wells Fargo can be with you so he/she can mail you a brand new card while that card that was used will be closed. If you don't believe me, just call your Wells Fargo to be extra sure that this number is not a fake but that your card has been used but declined that the Fraud Information Center would call you for a reason such as this. P.S: Listen to the transactions, if any don't sound like you did it, please go to your account or the website you possibly purchased from and that the amount you spent is the same. Please don't think this is a scam number, it's only a scam number when it starts asking you for personal information! Our rep only asked for my zip code and name, not SSN or anything like that! If it's something like that, do not answer! This is a serious thing and it got me extremely paranoid and shaking, please look after your Wells Fargo account and what happens in it.

- Jimmy| 1 replyI have read the comments and decided to give it a try. The automated call correctly lists the past transaction, and it turns out that one was declined due to international purchase. At the end of the call they list the correct number to the fraud department. So Idk if this is Wells Fargo's new number, or if it's their new way of screwing with their customer.
- CWG40 replies to JimmyNeither, it's a scam. Do not give out any information to any sort of cold caller. Call the number on the back
or your card or the number on your monthly statement. - CWG40About 694 calls on this thread and I counabout 175 or 25 percent , as shill posts. The shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. At a 40% shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way Isee it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go as high as 50%.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
T hese type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”. All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)

- Sjasmine4uStill going on as of NOVEMBER 28th 2016!!! THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!!! Don't fall for it!!! Got a call from this number after I had made an online purchase and thought it was strange that "Wells Fargo" was calling for a simple purchase. Googled the number only to see that I was a scam and I was about the millionth person that they tried to scam. I called the real Wells Fargo immediately and they informed me this is NOT a real Wells Fargo number!!! DON'T fall for it.

- ChipIt's legit. I was doing some holiday shopping and my card started getting declined because they detected fraud (even though my card is sitting right in front of me.) I called back and walked though a recorded maze where they wanted me to confirm my transactions. I am grateful my bank tracks fraud, I am annoyed that they started decling things without my consent. Different topic, different day...
- Caller: Wells Fargo bank
- Anonymous| 1 replyIt's a fraudulent number, my husband got call on a phone not registered with Wells Fargo.
There would be no benefit in saying it is a fraudulent number, if in fact is legit, the only benefit to be gained is by saying it is legit when it is actually fraudulent. Scammers leaving posts demanding that this number is legit, if they weren't scammers , if they were actually honest people would encourage you to go through Wells Fargo legit and well known contact pathways and confirm the information left by this number. They don't and they seem to be highly emotional about it. - CWG40 replies to AnonymousTotally agree. And the 25% shill rate is evidence enough of a scam.
- scwats replies to nzzzzz| 2 repliesWrong. whoever you spoke to just isn't aware of the number. This is legitimate,They cancelled the old card, identified fraudulent activity, opened a claim for the activity which ultimately resulted in a refund, and issued me a new card, which I have in my possession... and gives me money at ATMs from my account, which I can go online a verify. If it's a scam it's pretty damn elaborate and I'm waiting for the punchline.
- MaryI called the number on the back of my card and was told that this is the phone number to the Wells Fargo fraud dept. They told me that someone had tried to use my daughter's card number for large purchases and they were questioning them. They cancelled her card and issued her a new one.

- Wells Fargo CustomerI just recently opened an account with Wells Fargo and I will this is not a scam. I purchased something in another country and it was declined. As soon as it was declined, I received a call from this number and it listed the transaction plus the last 5 and I had to verify it was me who made these transactions. It is real
- Caller: Wells Fargo Fraud Department
- MikeI received a text message from wells fargo this morning stating "Wells Fargo detected unusual activity on card ending ****. "Reply YES VIEW to enroll & get details or STOP VIEW to be called. Carrier Msg & data rates may apply." I found this message to be odd and decided not to respond. A few hours later I received a call from "1-800-704-0855." It was an automated message or "robot" and it said that they had detected unusual activity and to enter my zip code where my card is billed so that they could ask me about some purchases. They went over around 5 purchases that I assume they thought were suspicious. After hearing them all they said if they are fine to press 1 and if not to press 2. Everything sounded correct so I pressed 1 and they said they would notify fraud department that everything was fine. Afterwards I felt a little un-easy so I left work and went up to the bank and asked if this was legit. The lady explained that they will call you sometimes to give you a chance to verify things before they freeze your card. So I left the bank feeling good but then kept reading posts on this forum about the phone # and got kinda freaked and thought maybe the lady didnt know what she was talking about, so I proceeded to call the fraud department. The man explained that there were a few purchases that seemed suspicious and thats why I got the call. I had him check to see if that # is a legit wells fargo #. After spending 10 minutes on hold he returned and said that indeed it is a registered # with the wells fargo fraud department. So for everyone who says they've called there bank or the fraud department and they said this number isnt associated with wells fargo is A: a liar....or B: you spoke to an idiot at the bank. This is not a scam it is just a way to prevent having to go through a 30 minute phone call having an unnecessary hold taken off your card. I do suggest for people who are still weary of all this to call the number on your card and speak to someone if you receive anything like this as you never know these days with technology. So in closing THIS IS NOT A SCAM. Just dont be stupid and give out your card number, SS #, or any other compromising numbers to random people. USE YOUR HEADS! and quit with the fear mongering!.....Also if anyone is able to tell you your last 5 purchases than they already have access to your account and your screwed anyways! I hope this helps end this 4 year debate!

- CWG40So this was a perfectly legitimate number for you. You weren't scammed
nor was an attempt to scam you made. Fine. Now.
Why are you posting here if the number was legitimate?
Personally I think this is a scam and you're part of it.
You are possibly a member of a part-time white collar gang
that gets active every once in a while, trying
to scam the customers of large-scale financial institutions.
That would explain why the same number has been used since at least
2011.
Your command of the English language suggests that you are located
possibly in North America somewhere.
You people call from a lot of 800numbers. All these numbers contain
a large number of shill posts. Which is part of your cirminal MO.
Which tells me that someone is going around monitoring the anti-scam sites.
Trying to see what works and what doesn't .
Most be quite a job. I count at least 50 numbers you people are
working on.
Question is, where is this gang located? And how many are in on it?
Well, call me paranoid, but your elaborate shill post is just another
indication of how far you people will go attempting this scam.- Caller: Opinion post
- Roxanne Ellingson| 1 replyReceived a 800-701-0855 call. Someone said they got an email about a fraudulent activity. Earlier I got a text stating the same. Then I checked my acct & it was ok. 7:30 pm call.

- Angela replies to Bob Maier| 1 replyNOT TRUE...I just called Wells & this is not one of their numbers. PLUS, calling back is NOT how they confirm account activity.
- Angela replies to scwats| 1 replyI just spoke with Wells. This is not their number. As well, having you call back a number given to you by a robot is NOT how they do transaction confirmations. If they ever want you to call back, they ask you to use the number on the back of your card.
