I received a call from this number.   The first words were "give me your credit card numbers so that I can tell you if there is an issue with your cards".   They called me and told me they were the fraud department at wells fargo.    I asked if they could tell me what they thought was fraud and I would confirm or deny the charges.   No, they had to have the credit card numbers first.   I stated you are talking with me, so my account must be in front of you.   I asked to speak to his supervisor.   He transferred me to his supervisor who I had difficulty hearing due to the fading in and out.   He let it slip he was on his cell phone in the hallway and that was why I had trouble hear ing him.   What supervisor at Wells fargo is talking to customers on their "cell phone" in the hallway????  I called wells fargo's customer service number and there is nothing wrong with my account or transactions.    The rep told me this was a phishing number and was glad I hadn't given them my account information.    Beware.   They sound legit!!!!

This is a fraudulent number!!  I called Wells Fargo and verified that this number is NOT in thier database or linked to their Fraud Department.  DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER and give them your information.  The message they left said that this was the Fraud Prevention Department from Wells Fargo.

This is Wells Fargo Fraud Protection

I let it go to voicemail and a computer left a message saying to call them back at the same number.  I called them and they asked for my billing zip code to confirm it was me, after entering the zip code the computer read off several recent charges and asked if they were legitimate charges.

That was it, my spending habits have changed a bit in the past couple weeks and I'm sure thats what flagged my account for a phone call.

Got a call saying it was from Wells Fargo Fraud Dept. and they wanted to speak with me regarding my Check Card and recent transactions through them.  My account and card were destroyed over a year ago when my Mother passed away.

All of these calls are making me wonder what our country is coming to!!!!!

Received an automated call to my work regarding fraudulent charges on my atm card. I did not call the number, but called the 800-869-3557, on the back of my ATM card. The customer service rep stated there were no notes in the system, however she stated the number: 800.704.0855 was the number to the Wells Fargo Fraud Department, and she transfered me. Spoke with Daniel, we went over my charges from the last few days. He stated what triggered the fraud alert was me paying my high Verizon Bill this morning. Apparently they first charge the card a $0 amount and if the card is valid, then they charge the high amount. This is what scammers do when they obtain card information. This triggered a fraud and deactivated my atm card.
Daniel turned back on my ATM card and we are all good to go.
As I did, whenever weary of a number, call the number on the back of your ATM card.

This # (800-704-0855) called me today and left a message saying that it was Wells Fargo Fraud.... I didn't trust it so I called Wells Fargo and asked. At first they weren't sure of the # but the person I spoke to c alled the # herself and verified that it truly was a Wells Fargo employee calling. They called because I paid a bill that they didn't recognize.

This number is the real thing.  I just got a call from them with an automated voice that said there was suspicious activity on my debit card.  I went to my local Wells Fargo branch and talked with a banker and we called the number together.  This is not a scam at all.  Remember, if the person managed to get your loggin info for your WF online banking account, they still wouldn't know your phone number.  That is kept on file at WF exclusively and therefore would not know how to contact you.  But if you are still feeling skeptical, you can do what I did and go to your local branch and they will walk you through the process.

Note: after you get off the phone with WF and they issue you a new debit card, shred the one you have immediately.  The only thing that can cause problems for you after the card has been cancelled is if you forget that fact and use it by accident at some point before your new card arrives.  My banker told me that the card will come up as "stolen" if someone uses it and it could create problems for me down the road.

This is a very elaborate scam guys. The scammers make a fraudulent purchase (or attempt to) with your card, then they call you and tell you about how your account is compromised and you have fraudulent purchases and tell you they need personal info to get it sorted out. It's believable because you DO have either a fraudulent purchase that appears on your online account, or one really was attempted.

I called Wells Fargo and she explained this, that yes someone had tried to make a purchase at a walmart in another state, so that the scammers would have real ammo when they called from their so-called 'wells fargo'  number and I'd believe it. I canceled and reordered my card.

Just want everyone to know it is a SCAM, an elaborate and rather advanced one, but a scam nonetheless. It's not a coincidence that you had a real fraudulent charge attempt, that's all part of their plan.

I had just made a card purchase on line from a company that I had never purchased from before.

Shortly after I received the call on my home number from 800-704-0855 and the recording indicated that it was from Wells Fargo. I hung up since I was unfamilar with that number and I hadn't placed the call to them.

I also received the same recorded message on my work phone. So I proceeded to call the Wells Fargo number that I had from their web site that I was familar with. The Wells Fargo agent indicated they do have an automatic system that would try and contact you if the purchase was a higher amount or seemed unusual.

They showed the purchase I had just made on their system and named off a few of the other charges that I had. All were legit. They did proceed to offer one of their services that would help monitor your account for identity fraud. It helps keep you posted on any credit activity.

I believe the call back system from the 800-704-0855 number is for protection as well as an opportunity for Wells Fargo to sell you one of their additional services. However, I still won't handle any information through a number I don't know. Only give bank info through a call that you made and a number you know.

This is not a scam.  After reading this message, I froze my account because the Wells Fargo # on my online banking account could not tell me if this was a valid Wells Fargo #.  I then went to my local branch in Milton GA and Lynn at the local branch was able to call the Fraud Department and they validated this # is good.  It is an internal #.  Hope this helps some of you all from freaking out like I did.

July 5, 2012......This IS a fake number --just got a call this morning on my home voicemail.... I called the # back on the recorded message and when I entered my zipcode 'where my statement is maile"... it said that this info is correct...please hold for a rep.... I knew the zip was correct, so I hung up and dialed the WF number on my ATM card. She looked up the number and said IT IS NOT A WF NUMBER, and connected me to their Fraud Department, where I reported it.  It is easy to get your name from a credit card receipt or any number of other places showing you have a SF Account , (without having  the whole number), and they can then call your home number (easy to google and look up)... then trick you into giving them your account number....  BEWARE --- When in doubt, call your local branch bank, or the number on your card... DO NOT GIVE OUT INFO TO A NUMBER THAT ....

Legitmate #, listen to message and they will ask you to verify several transactions on your debit card. No card number input and only your zip code is asked for. I had one large purchase for a mail order that most likely triggered this call.

The number is a legit number. But you must call customer service. Turns out I had someone in Colorado trying to use my debit card number. Answered a few quick questions and that was it. If you get a call from this number it would be that you have a bank account, debit card or a credit card issued by Wells Fargo. Its worth the time to call in and get it straightened out.

You are absolutely right, it is the fraud detection department for Wells Fargo... It is not the same number for Wells Fargo because it is not a listed number. But it is their fraud detection number... All you have to do is call it back, if you did not answer it, and you will prove it for yourself instead of some people making ridiculous claims.

The individual or computer that you speak with will repeat your last 5-10 purchases you have made to verify it is you...You then have the option to verify or deny a purchase... If one of those purchases was not yours then fraud was detected...

I was making a purchase for Silver online and the card was blocked by Wells Fargo due to the purchasing size, about an hour later I got a call from the Wells Fargo fraud detection from this same number, telling me they stopped a purchase due to potential fraud, it was my purchase... When I verified it, I was then able to make the same purchase the next time... There is no doubt this is a real number from Wells Fargo.
