- Nancy| 1 replyThis is legit. I paid my VerizonWireless bill online with my debit card. Within two minutes I got a voice mail on my cell phone to call this number and confirm that I had made a legitimate purchase with my debit card. I did not answer it to begin with since I am at work. Right after the call to my cell I recieved a recorded call here at my job with the same message. I called it back, it is Wells Fargo Fraud detection number with an automatic system. It only asked for my zip code on my account, then proceeded to list the past 5 transactions I had on my debit account wich were all correct. DId not ask for any personal info and there were no fraudulant charges. I'm glad WF is pro-active.

- anonymous replies to NancyNO, you must NEVER call back a strange number that called you, you MUST ALWAYS call the number on the back of your card. Who cares if the number that called you is "Wells Fargo Fraud detection number with an automatic system"? You MUST ALWAYS call the number on the back of your card. ONLY SHILLS GIVE OUT BAD ADVICE LIKE CALLING BACK STRANGE NUMBERS THAT CALL YOU.
- DBI missed a call from this number, but received no voicemail. After a quick google search, i decided to call the Wells Fargo Customer Service number listed on the official Wells Fargo website, i gave them the number and the woman i spoke with said that it did not come up in her search engine. She said, "Do NOT call that number back, and do NOT give them any of your information. There has been a lot of fraudulant calls like this recently, don't be a victim." CHECK AND RECHECK YOUR FACTS PEOPLE.

- pbe1948This is NOT a valid Wells Fargo number. I just verified it with Wells Fargo. I started receiving calls from this number yesterday (8 calls in 1 day) and tonight I find a charge on my card that I did not make.
- Caller: clained to be Wells Fargo
- Joe| 2 repliesI received a call from this number right after I made an online charge. I am a Wells Fargo Customer. A quick login showed that my balance was fine, everything in order.
At first I figured that because I just got a job, and before that there had been very limited account activity, that they were calling me. In other words, I wasn't using the account very much and now that I have money, was paying off some bills and had also received a large direct deposit so it was out of the ordinary for me.
After several calls to Wells Fargo, first to customer service, then to online fraud, then to someone who could search for numbers, I was told this is NOT Wells Fargo. She had no record of the number in their database. I was also told my account was OK, no issues.
What freaked me out was the fact that the call came right after an online charge and it isn't them. I'm going to have to monitor my account and chalk it up to coincidence. A further proof that it isn't them is the fact that I'm signed up for email alerts as my primary contact and did not receive one.- Caller: Supposedly Wells Fargo, But Not
- x replies to Lola| 1 replyFunny, when that happened to me Wells fargo sent me an email asking to call and set another password. They never called me with that crap
- X replies to John| 2 repliesYou're full of it. I just checked the wells fargo phone directory and this number is not listed as one of their numbers In fact it's not even close to any of wells fargos' numbers
So I'll have to say SHILL ALERT - XWay too many shills posting on this thread to make any sense of it.. Any questions about your account should be directed to calling the number on the back of your card not this number!
- SusanI got a call from this number and rather than call it back, I called the number on the back of my Wells Fargo credit card. They confirmed no suspicious or fraudulent charges on the credit card. The original call was regarding an ATM card. I must be the only living human in the US without an ATM card.
However, the fraud unit at Wells Fargo was able to confirm for me that this is their number. They were calling about another ATM card from someone else in this household. They called on the home phone, because we've tied all the cards to this number. This is not a scam.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Joe replies to Joe| 1 replyI'll retierate that I don't believe this number to be real:
1. I received a second call from them later in the afternoon and there was, once again, no suspicious activity.
2. If a number is going to call you and it's legit, you would be able to check your balance right away and note suspicious activity. There was not any.
3. I was told by Wells Fargo that this IS NOT ONE OF THEIR NUMBERS. - Zaheer Abid800-704-0855
This is Wells Fargo Fraud prevention department. I received a missed call from this number. Called back. Automated system recognized my number. No personal information asked. Verified zip code and asked if I made following 3 transactions. Validated transactions and that's it. - XIf in doubt call the number on the back of your card, not this number!!!!
- Joe replies to JoeLast night my card was blocked as I tried to make some charges I don't normally make. I called up customer service, verified some charges, and it was released. This morning I received a call from this number again. Then, when I tried to use a Wells Fargo ATM, it was again blocked. I went into the branch and one of the bankers called the fraud department. It was confirmed for me that it is a Wells Fargo number, and that when the release was done last night it was only temporary.
You'll notice above that I said it was not a Wells Fargo number and that a customer service person had told me it was not. What the fraud person told me is that it's a new number and not everyone on the front lines is aware of it yet. She said you can respond to it, or call the fraud department if you don't feel comfortable doing so, and they will take care of it for you.
My assumption now is that if you don't respond your card will eventually be blocked. However, when in doubt, ALWAYS call the number on your card. - PaigeI called wells fargo after being told by a recording to call this number. There was no fraud alert on my account. Don't call this numbber and give them informationv they are fishi g.

- Dave replies to X| 1 replyIt's legit. UPS had charged $5 to my card 12 times but it should've only been 1 charge,
- Wells Fargo Customer replies to hypno| 2 repliesThis is definitely 100% NOT a scam. It's the Fraud Prevention Dept. and is legit. Not sure why someone would think this is a scam. They already have your card info and transaction history when you call. They do not request any of that info. Glad they alerted me to the fraudulent charges!
- beverly jezekwants my debit card number from wells fargo.....but i dont bank at wells farfo.....these people need to get cought!!!!!

- 'Tage replies to hypno| 6 repliesThis *IS* a Wells Fargo number. I just made an online purchase, and got a call from this number (within a few minutes after making the purchase) telling me to call this number. They wanted to verify that activity on my account was correct, and not someone using my number. I used to work fraud prevention for a credit card company, and made outbound calls to cardmembers to verify activity just like this. They *WILL* ask for your account number to pull up your account. If you are concerned about giving your number to someone who calls you (and you should be!), do what I did: call the number on the back of your card and ask to speak to the security/fraud prevention department. They will verify the activity on your account, and all will be well.

- 'Tage| 1 replyAnd all you people stating AS FACT that this is not Wells Fargo, get over yourselves! You think they publish all their numbers for people to know? Come on! Just because you can't find the number does not make your claim that is is not Wells Fargo a fact. Yes you need to be cautious. If in doubt call the number on your card and you will find out it is a valid call. The customer service person I spoke to told me it was not them that called. The idiot rep who said that was just being ignorant. Like a rep would know every number for Wells Fargo. Clueless. He had no right to say no it wasn't us. He should have said I don't know, but I'll transfer you to Fraud Prevention. He wanted to sound knowledgeable, just like some of the idiots on the site. Get a clue people. Stop trying to sound like you know it all. Get a call from this number and think I am a "shill"? Call 1-800-TO-WELLS and find out for yourself.
