- KatIt's Sallie Mae student loans trying to collect on delinquent payments.

- mary jones replies to ugly manWhy should I pay something I don't owe? I've never had a student loan and they keep calling me! So, don't go spouting off to others about paying their bills to stop the calls. Why should someone pay money out that they do not owe?
I know people who do have student loans and always pay on time. Sallee Mae calls their work place every week demanding payment and every week the ones paying provide proof of payment. Then, Sallee Mae people PROMISE that they will not be contacted again as long as they are current with their payments. One week later, there they (Sallee Mae) go again!!! Ring-a-ding-ding, Sallee Mae calling!! It's enough to make one consider disconnecting their phone, quitting their job, and living on the streets. At least they can't call you there! - HopeThese people always call for my dad! From Phoenix University/Sallie Mae! I think it's a scam! My dad never applied for student loans with them or anything!! Wish they'd stop calling!!!

- HLMI think this number is a scam. When I call the number on the Sallie Mae website they are very helpful and very nice. And when I call and check in, they DON'T harass me for like at least 2 wks. I do have loans I am currently unable to pay. Even though I'm practically in default they don't harass me. "Heather" is NOT from Sallie Mae. It is an auto dialed with a prerecorded message. So it's SOME kind of scam.

- HLMUpdate- I called the 800 # and went through hold and all that. The woman I spoke with insists that they are a legit organization, that she's a government employee, that she works for the Dept of Education, and that some Sallie Mae loans are through the Dept of Education, which is why there are different phone numbers they contact you through. She insisted that "Heather" calls when you are delinquent on loans. She was able to "see my last date logged in" to the Sallie Mae website. The only information she had from me was my name and phone number. I refused to give them my account or SS # but, without otherwise confirming my identity (through address or email address or anything) discussed with me my loans and was able to see the last time I logged on? If they ARE affiliated in any way with the dept of edu or Sallie Mae then something illegal and fishy is going on.
To those of you that are saying you've never had any loans or only recently took them out and have only just received or not yet received your money- you need to check that your identity hasn't been Compromised/Stolen. She refused to take me off their call list, said she couldn't take me out of the auto dialer and then hung up with me when I insisted she did and told her I was going to register on the FCC do not call registry.
Good luck to all of you. Don't give them a dime. Make my and all payments through the Sallie Mae website and screen shot EVERYTHING for proof.- Caller: 8007221300

These calls all started when I wrote checks to either Radio Shack, or Walmart. Checks don't have telephone numbers, but these clerks mysteriously asked for my number. There are several businesses that sell your number. I like many of you don't have an outstanding student loan, or any other delinquent debt. I suspect that NCO is parenting this operation, in an attempt to coerces money from anyone who will submit from this tactic. No civil servant calls after hours or on the weekend, let alone ask for personal information. Everyone who is being victimized should fill out a report to the FCC. If they get enough complaints, maybe they'll be prosecuted. In the meantime, my land line phone ringer and answering volume has been muted, and I'm on a relative's cell phone account.
- money man replies to Try againThey can not call a cell phone or a land line if you let them know you pay by the call. A collection can not cost you money above the money owed. Technically you can deduct any fees( check over the phone, western union fees ect) you pay for paying the bill. They wont tell you that, but when they offer you those options, you can deduct the costs. It is a federa law. Part of the fair debt and collections act. I was a super. at a credit bureau for several years.
- DC replies to Roland| 1 reply"Mysteriously" asked for your number?
"Pssst, hey you. Yeah, you writing that check. Come over here behind this rack of soldering irons. Look buddy, can I get your number. Shhhh, not so loud." - Just someone replies to DCHahaha. Good one.
- Just someoneIt's simple. Pay your student loan and they won't call you. I have to defer mine again because like most of America I cannot afford my student loans. NEVER EVER EVER EVER go to a "for profit" college!!!! Instead go to an in-state university. (Preferably a state school). If u are low income you should not only apply for and receive state grants but you will get federal aid as well. Free college. ;-)

- Amy replies to MBDWell they need to quit calling me...I have student loans but they are all current....
- LeyWell, I tried calling the number back before looking it up on here. My cell company stopped the call bc it was an international number supposedly. All I did was hit the call back button. I've gotten calls from Sallie Mae plenty of times before to know not normal.
- In The KnowI find it interesting that Sallie Mae's own collection goons frequent this website trying cute tactics like:
1. Pretending to be borrowers, "I called them and they were nice, worked out a great deal with me and stopped calling."
2. Calling us names, "You're a loser."
3. Insisting that if you just "paid your debt they would stop calling".
4. Openly justifying their nasty behavior, "Well you owe us money." "We'll call all we like." "Pay us." and my personal favorite, "Well you shouldn't have taken out a loan you couldn't pay back."
They are standing by to treat you like complete garbage. Sallie Mae is the worst organization when it comes to student loans, even the Federal Program. They lie to you, record all your calls (but will NEVER let you record because they don't want to be caught in a lie), and berate you.
Oh and a dirty secret? That cute forbearance payment you make? Yeah, they use that to reset the time clock on your debt all the while charging you interest upon interest. Do your research, they have taken advantage of thousands upon thousands of people. Don't believe what I say? A quick search online will prove everything I say and more. Their BBB rating is in the toilet.
They will even try to get this comment removed because... it's the TRUTH. Their collections agents constantly troll websites like this one to intimidate people and proof of that is within the 9 pages of comments, clearly some of those comments are Sallie Mae. They have lost lawsuits for robodialing and also ripping off our US Veterans with additional fees, high interest, and a lot of other tactics that were deemed illegal.- Caller: Sallie Mae

- anonymous replies to PayUpSeriously? There are scammers. I dont have a student loan through them.
- Boo replies to RolandI learned long ago to just say no. You can't have my phone, you can't even have my zip code.
- BooI just got a message identifying these people as naviet or something like that, servicing the Dept of Education loans.
It is for someone I've never heard of. Oh wait, I have heard of him about a year ago when a debt collector was calling for him. I reported that one to the DNC list (they now have a link explicitly for debt collectors) and the calls stopped. I don't know if this is the same debt, but I'm going to remind the DNC that they've told debt collectors before not to call me for this guy. I have a feeling the debt was sold along with my phone number and a new debt collector took over harassing me. Hopefully the DNC will investigate that because I'm sure sick of being called for other people's debts.- Caller: Dept of Ed
