These people kept calling me and when I finally called back they said it was in regards to someone with the same last name as my first name. I said there's no one here by that name and they said they'd take my name off the list.

These people are vicious. They have been calling multiple times daily for 7 months now, even on weekends. After telling them twice they are calling a wrong number they persist. I did credit checks to see if perhaps we'd been victims of identity theft, our three credit reports came back with impeccable results. We have never received any mail from this company-only calls. Oh well, since they love the phone so much, I simply have their calls forwarded to their main number,(8007412100) my phone never rings. I know you have a quota of calls to make. Keep on calling - MORONS!

Report these clowns to the FTC.

This tactic of finding someone with the same name and harassing them until they pay is illegal.

First, send a drop dead letter.

Miraculously, they will have up and decided to send you a debt validation letter just the day before your return receipt requested letter arrived in their place.  Convenient.

    That will stop the calls.

More importantly, send a complaint to the FTC about their tactics.  It seems epidemic with them.

Lastly, do what I did.  I got the validation letter from them about the Citi credit card account that they sent me.  It had the account number on it...the full account number.  My buddy who is in collections suggessted I contact Citi to let them know what was happening.  I sent a letter to the President of Citi telling him that if I was contacted again by these people (who had already broken federal law on his company's behalf), I was going to sue the collection agency and Citi as well.  I received a nicely worded letter from the President's office apologizing and letting me know that they had contaced LTD and told them to leave me alone.

They are doing this because 1 in 100 will pay the debt owed by someone else because they don't keep records or need to close a loan.

Thanks for the tip - I will write the FTC. As non-professional as LTD seems to run their outfit, I'm doubting a letter to them would have any consequence.

A person by the name of Margo, ext.2942 has been calling my home for the last 7 months asking to speak to my son.  Then on 9/6/07, she called my in-laws leaving a message for him.  I then called Margo om 9/6/07 to informed her not to call my in-laws because they are elderly.  I asked Margo, if a letter regarding this matter, ever been to send to my home. She then asked me what my address was.  I told her she should have that on file.  I have no clue how she she got thier phone numbers.  Then we talked to the supervisor, who we asked if he send a letter, he stated that they send a letter on Auguet 14, never received a letter at my home.  He then stated that he could work out a deal with my son, if I gave him a fax number, why can't they mail the information.  The supervisor stated that we were using this method, of saying we didn't get a letter as to not to pay the bill. I told them send information in the mail, and we will be happy to take care of the bill.  He wil not send it in the mail only by fax.

Get calls from collection agencies all the time, especially for one particular family.  I NEVER answer phone calls from Private Parties or 800 or 899 numbers unless there is a recognizable name associated with it.  If they leave a message on my answering machine asking for a certain person to call so a matter can be cleared up I will call them back to let them know that no such person lives here.  They usually take my number out of the data base, seems they can call any number that a person has ever used for 5 to 10 years.  Wish Fernando Lerma would clear up his debts!

Got a vm from the number above,  ext. 2362, Leann Davis, referring to me by my married name and another name.  She claimed it was urgent.  I hesitated, but did call back.  I asked her what her company was.  She said a collection agency.  I said what was this about, knowing I am not overdue on my bills, she claimed it was a Citibank concern.  She had my phone number, but the person she was trying to locate lives a few hours south of me.  She claims she will take me off the list, but after reading everyone else's story, I am not so sure.

Got a call this morning about 8:20am lady left a name but I forget what it was, my answering machine picked it up. She gave no indication it was a collection agency, but I guessed that is what it was since I've gotten nothing but those type of calls lately. She said that she had some "information I might not be aware of" whatever that means. What like I owe money on a credit card I didn't know I had? Don't Think so. I know I owe on some credit cards and collection agencies have been calling, that is why I am now in a debt relief program that will clear up my credit (in about 3 years) and wipe these clowns off of my map.
