- KimE| 3 repliesThis is Verizon's customer service number. We had a scheduled appointment this morning and received a call (no one on the other end). I'm assuming they were calling to say they were on their way. I find it very strange and annoying that they (THE DANG PHONE COMPANY) don't identify themselves on caller id. I normally would not have answered. We had a tech do some work for us a year or so ago and he left several expensive tools behind. We called to let them know, and they said he would call us to pick them up. I said he would need to identify himself on caller id or at least leave a message to say who it was. No messages were left, ever. We called several more times and said the same thing. We still have the tools.

- Echelon| 5 repliesI used to get calls from this number regularly (it's Verizon). I installed some software on my phone that will not allow unidentified and/or unwanted callers, so when they call they do not get a ring on their end and cannot leave voice mail, and they cannot send me text messages.
My phone is a private line intended exclusively for my own personal use to make outgoing calls, and to receive incoming calls from a pre-defined list of welcomed numbers, which Verizon is not on.
Thanks to Verizon's persistence in forcing me to think of a solution to the issue of corporations trespassing on my private line, I plan to inform Verizon and all other unwelcome corporations that call regularly that, although they are not welcome to call me unless I have explicitly called and requested something from them, I will temporarily allow any number from which they wish to call me for the duration of any call they wish to make to me upon the condition that they first:
(1) deposit a $3,000 USD privilege fee per call into my Pay Pal account for the privilege of calling my private line
(2) send me a certified letter
(a) informing me of the deposit;
(b) containing a complete and unambiguous statement of the purpose for their call;
(c) informing me as to the number I should temporarily allow;
(d) informing me as to the approximate date and time that I should keep the line open to the number from which they wish to call; and
(e) an acknowledgment that if they attempt to discuss any matter with me outside of the reason stated in their letter the call will be terminated, they forfeit the call privilege fee and the privilege fee will be doubled from its previous amount per each such occurrence.
Thanks for your persistence, Verizon!- Caller: Verizon
- Nancy| 1 replyNope it's still related to collections... An agent is aware of this verison number etc. Using it to cause problems and not look like their directly related. Ultimately this is related to collection but is untraceable... I could make it do the same for my mom’s phone if I wanted to do it to her, it's a collections trick designed to irritate.

- LB401 replies to linda diazThey can't here you. This is not a place to leave a message for the owner of the number. Chill.
- Telephone guy replies to WaldoIn general, CID as transmitted from the origin of the call is only the calling party's 10-digit phone number. The calling party name is added by the consumer's terminating central office if the consumer has subscribed to that service. Calling name delivery is not automatic. An SS7 (or Signalling System 7) TCAP query may be launched by the called party's central office to retrieve the information for Calling Name delivery to the caller ID equipment at the consumer's location if the caller's name has not already been associated with the calling party's line at the originating central office. Canadian systems using CCS7 automatically (but not in all cases) send the calling name with the call set-up and routing information at the time of the call.
To look up the name associated with a phone number, the carrier in some instances has to access that information from a third-party database and some database providers charge a small fee for each access to such databases. To avoid such charges, some carriers will report the name as "unavailable", or will report the name as "(city), (state)" based on the phone number, particularly for wireless callers. For 800 numbers, they may report a string such as TOLLFREE NUMBER if the name is not available in a database. - Kumbahya (Robert)I get from 2 or more to as many as 4 calls a DAY from Verizon attempting to inform me of
some service or "something or other" I have received, etc.
Funny thing is, I don't have Verizon, I have RCN ... and I haven't had more than
one day,of peace since last week since this started happening ... again ...
Called Verizon, they said they'd take care of it, and now I get MORE calls from them.

- TDPIt's Verizon. Plain and simple. It's one of their master (output) numbers, meaning you can't call that exact number back. They'll usually leave a message regarding what it is they want. Mine for example was for FIOS installation.

- JaneVACall from Verizon to confirm FIOS installation. This call left a message. I agree that this is a "master" number for lots of Verizon calls. Still, it would help if the CID said "Verizon", I might have answered. I never answer unnamed calls.

- BAC| 1 replyI received a call from (800) 837-4966 twice at an unusual hour...the first at 10:02pm and the second at 10:03pm. The CID displays that it's Verizon. Each time I answered, there was no one on the line. I was very annoyed as I have 2 young children who are already well asleep by that time. I called the number back and reached the Verizon FIOS customer service line. We don't have FIOS. So, of course, customer service said that I didn't have an account with them and they couldn't help me. They put me on hold to transfer me to the telephone customer services line and after 15 min. on hold, I was put into some automated attendant loop. Even more annoyed, I emailed Verizon through their "Contact Us" page explaining that it was unacceptable to receive calls at that hour.
Shockingly, I received a call from Verizon today from their executive office apologizing for the inconvenience and explained how this is not their normal business practice. They were able to track down that the call came from a field technician who was apparently attempting to notify us that they were upgrading our line. And that the rep has been counseled for making calls to our house at that hour. I was impressed that we actually got an explanation and apology.
Anyway, for what it's worth...that's my experience with this number.- Caller: Verizon
- Bill in VirginiaThis turned out to be an automated system of Verizon for service calls. I returned the call, keyed in my phone number, and got an automated message that Verizon would be coming to my house to repair my phone. In other words, it was legitimate.

- BethWe never answer our home phone because it was part of a bundle and we don't use it (just a 911 use anyway). It was no big deal when I finally got around to listening and deleting the message. It was an auto-message from Verizon stating someone had signed up our account for full access online. No biggy because I had done that. I have also received these on my cellphone reminding me that my $300 reward card is being sent or that my appointment is tomorrow. Not all of these calls are bad, just a little inconvenient. (I just went through a month's worth of voicemails, this was one I didn't mind!)
