They keep calling my house and hang up every time I answer.  Today was my only day of peace without having multiple things to do.  My phone has been ringing off the hook between this number and the last call to lower my interest rates.  I am so ready to just yank my phone out of the wall.

I think the state laws of the person who received the call would most likely apply on the subject of recorded phone calls. I say this because I think if a person would file a lawsuit, it would be filed in the state of residence of the person who received a call, not necessarily in Pen. In the state I live in, Georgia, as long as one person has knowledge of the recorded call, the recording is admissible in court. I don't the full ins and outs of this, but I think this may be the case. I'm not being critical but just offering a different perspective that could apply. I encourage everyone to look up the laws of their state regarding this. The individual;s attorney general's office would be a good place to start.

got a call from this number asking for my mother-n-law maiden name which has never been used by us. did not identify themselves. phone stated this conversation will be recorded then lady came only asking to speak with said person, said you have wrong number, then she asked to I know of such person. They did not identify who they were or what it was regarding. I told them sorry I could not help you. She then stated that she would take care of it, then hung up.  Don't know what she was taking care of or what it was about.  very strange phone call.

not paying for something I don't owe replies to collector

BS, I have a collector trying to collect on a PREPAID credit card that I closed after I spent MY money from over 10 years ago.  I have never given this number to them to call me on.  I have been married for 8 years and they are asking for me by my married name.  I have sent letter upon letter with return receipt requested that I do not owe this money and they will not stop.  Doesn't that violate some fair reporting act of some kind, be it credit or debt collecting?  I told them last night when they called and tonight they hung up on me.  When does it end???

Absolutely. You need to get a consumer law attorney and sue them for repeatedly ignoring your requests to validate the debt:

Section 809(a) requires a collector, within 5 days of the first communication, to provide the consumer a written notice (if not provided in that communication) containing

    (1) the amount of the debt and--

    (2) the name of the creditor, along with a statement that he will

    (3) assume the debt's validity unless the consumer disputes it within 30 days,

    (4) send a verification or copy of the judgment if the consumer timely disputes the debt, and --

    (5) identify the original creditor upon written request.

    My Turn
They keep calling me too.  I don't deal with anyone who never leaves a message. I don't deal with anyone who leaves a message and only said to call them without even stating anyone name or reason.  Instead I look up every single number like that, including this one and change their name or add a name to "[***] U.Then when the phone rings, my phone says the name and trust me, no need to get up!  You can also assign a certain ring tone to the telemarketers as well.  I just let it go to voice mail.  No need to get upset over it. Trust me, automated system still knows how many times they are trying to call you, and so what.  Let them know you don't care by not answering.  It  will go away.  I do this all the time for many years.  After a while they disappear. I have paid a debt off with the original people that I owed it too and these people still want to call even though I explained it to them. I keep great records so if they even think about attacking my credit report with this nonsense I already know the debt has been paid off.  In the mean time I will enjoy the lady saying those magic words.  I only have to laugh!

They keep on calling my number. I have answered and hit the "1" key - as prompted - several times to get to a live person. Each time I tell the person that they have the wrong number. I know the person they are trying to reach, but that person can't be reached by a reliable alternate number. I think they used my number for a credit reference and, well... there you go.

My mother got a call at her home, for ME, which I havent lived there in 25 years!  They told her I needed to call because they have important information for me. I called them and they wanted all of my personal information. When I refused to give them my address until they told me who they were and what they were calling about, they refused to continue the call. I advised them not to call my parents home anymore, and they said ok then hung up.
