It's seems like some of the companies (not only creditors) have taken this weird way of telling people about missed payments. I got a call just right now, it's 8.05PM!! I had the same problem with another number. They seem to be using a third party or something like that. What a bunch of Bullsh1t.

I received a call from this number.  The person on the thin identified himself as someone with the Capital One collections dept.  He said I was 3 months behind in my payments, and tried to pressure me into making a payment over the phone.  I knew th information was not right, so I said I would check into it and get back to Capital One.  I verified online my account was current (paid off, in fact), and I called the customer service number on the back of my card, and again verified my account has a $0 balcnce -- they, in turn, forwarded me to the fraud dept.  The person there said I was the third call he received today on this matter.  He spoke with the collections department who told him that they could not even open my file because I am not in collections.  This is very weird -- don't know what's going on.

I just got a call from this number.  They asked for Robert.  I told them they had the wrong number, they said sorry and hung up.  So I figured I'd look the number up and I found this thread.

This is a capitol one number...i went on their website and called customer service/fraud division and they told me this is the number that Capitol one uses to verify account information. It is legit. Call capitol one and ask if the number belongs to them and they will verify it for you.

    Most likely a scam.

Do not give out your account number or your social security number, or other identifying information.

Hang up and call the number on the back of your card.

Caller ID can be faked. Calling back this number proves nothing.

Legitimate callers would already know your information, might ask for a few bits such as the last four, but never the whole thing.

I also have beeen getting an extreme amount of phone calls from 1-800-955-6660..and they are asking for somebody that dont live at my address.  We are assuming it's a telemarketer and asking them kindly to take our number off their list, and we are  on the "Do Not Call List".  Now afer googling this number I see their is a harrasament and Illegal scam going on here.  Somebody needs to take this company or whoever it is and report them to the proper athorities.  I need to find a way to block all 800 numbers, then I think that will take care of this problem.  I think I will visit the FCC website and see what I can do too.

I received several calls from this number, the caller never leaving a message, so i called it back. It rang and no one answered. Then, receiving the 3rd or 4th call in a week, I finally picked up the live call and the person on the other end, after a long pause, asked in a very strange voice for "Thomas."
I told him he was dialing the wrong number and hung up immediately. Then i tried the number again and it said it was Capital One. This was highly unusual, as Capital One ALWAYS leaves a message if they are trying to contact me for any reason.

As I am a Capital One customer, this made me uncomfortable, so I immediately called customer service and billing to see if my accounts are current (i could see online that they were, but you never know).

I was on the phone with 4 separate representatives from Billing to Fraud and spent a half hour on the phone with Capital one trying to find out what is going on.

Every department said my accounts are fine, and they said they were not trying to contact me for any reason.  Then i got another call today, from the same exact number! So I took the advice of someone on this forum and filed a complaint with the FCC.

Try this.  They have called my 11 year old child's cell phone.  YES and when I answered I was told they could not tell me why they are calling because it's confidential!

Here is a good thing to do.  Call 800 955-7070 and ask for a manager.  If you don't they will begin to ask you for your Acct. #.  Well my child nor either parent has a Capital One Acct. so I was not comfortable giving my SS# to anyone.  Finally a manager said it will take 48 hours to have that number removed.  I will be back if it is not removed.  However, this is my second request!

Now if you would like to know what is in my wallet I will tell you...  CITIBANK!  Never had an issue with them.

Our company gets these calls numerous times a day.  I see the number pop up and just cringe.

I called the number back and hit the record button on our phone. I have her telling me that an account holder provided this number and they are calling because the account is behind.  She could not verify for me that the specific reason was the account was past due but she was "pretty sure". I got her name and her employee ID number and am calling Capital One to report this third party company and the harrassing calls on their behalf.

It's more than enough to make you cut up the card and cancel the account permanently.
