they called me at 640 AM so i thought it was work related. I called back and it had the exact recording of capital one's automated voice system... I could not tell the difference. "Welcome to Capital one, please enter your sixteen digit card number"
Thats really not cool. Spread the word!

Received a call from 800-955-7070. No message left. I called the number back and as many here have posted, it's an auto answered and asks for my 16-digit credit card number. I hung up.

Checked my Cap One credit card and it's not scheduled to expire until 5/2010 so I doubt they're checking up to see if I've received any new cards.

It's Capital One QQing about that federal legislation on credit cards. Cry more, crooks.

When they call me they get a quick good-bye..
If it sounds legit, I go to the file drawer and get a statement for that provider and call them using one of the phone numbers I have on file.

I have AVOIDED more than one scam attempt by following this procedure.

They called saying they were Capital One, said there is new legislature bill being passed or something in february.  If you go over your credit limit your credit card will be canceled automatically instead of having an over limit fee.

I received calls from this number two days in a row.  I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, and I expect legitimate callers to leave a message.

The calls started tuesday. Theres been 7,varies in time from 2 till 5pm. It is the same number on my cap one card but they should leave a message instead of calling every day, even on saturday.IMO

I received a call from this number too a few days ago. To start, I could not anything the guy was asking me. I think he was calling from India or something. He wanted to verify my credit card number. I told him I didn't have my card with me and that sorry I was busy at work. I was wanna call capital one to find out if this call came from them but I forgot about it. I was checking my numbers on my cell phone tonight and looked at it online.

I just called Capital one directly and they told me that the # 800-955-7070 is theirs and that they wanted to give me some kind of offer for the good standing account. And again I talked to someone with an Indu accent. I guess Capital One switch all their calls to a center in India. That's why the economy of this country is going down every day. That's why people can't find jobs these days.

Are you kidding? This was probably written by one of those people who work for a spamming/scamming company.

I started receiving these calls about a week ago. They call maybe every other day, but every day that they do call, it's like 3 times- morning, afternoon, and evening!  It must only ring once, because all I ever hear is my 'Missed Call' ring, and I see 1-800-955-7070 on the caller ID.  I have had a Capital One card for years, and this is the first time I've ever gotten calls from them.  Weird that they would only let it ring once and never leave a msg.

They call my cell phone almost every day.  I just ignore it.  The first time I answered it they asked for my zip code.

I received a call from this number tonight a woman claiming to be from capital one, stated she needed my account number to verify it was me she was talking to me. when I told her I wasnt comfortable giving that out, she said she didnt understand why I wouldnt give it to her, when I said I didnt believe she needed it to tell me what she needed to tell me she hung up on me. the number that came up was capital ones number, but when I called them they had no record of anyone calling me, and told me it was good I didnt give my account number and to be sure I didnt give it out if I recieved another call from someone claiming to be from capital one..... BEWARE!!!

I have had several calls from this number and each time they tell me about new legislature and the want me to verify my credit card number. The number they give me is incorrect and I refuse to give them the correct number. I ask them to take me off the call list and they refuse. I will continue to take the calls but I will not give them my Capital One number. I will tell them to stop calling and hang up

We have received calls from this number for several nights, always asking for my husband (who is the primary account holder) who was deployed until recently. Tonight they called and wanted our zip code. Husband asked for the number to call the back, not giving that information. They claimed to be doing a courtesy call regarding new credit card legislation.

I just looked at the Capital One web site and it has this number listed as their customer service contact number.

Missed call: called back and hung up when it asked me to say or enter my card number.

Missed call next evening: called back and stayed on while it asked me to say or enter my number maybe 10 times. Finally, I pressed "0" and it said, "for faster service, please say or enter your 9-digit SSN."

There is just no way a major credit card company would ask this question...automated or not.

People can call using phony caller ID's. I think there is a free program you can download which allows you to do this from your computer.

I guess that doesn't explain why it would be no good when you call the number back. Hmm...

We recived a call from 800 955-7070 and they were asking for information about our credit card. We informed them that we do not give out info to call made to us and hung up. we also sent in the telephone number to Capital One Fraud line. Then we called Capitial One and personally reported it. Come to find out this number is a Capital One tele-marketer department. What ever happened to the no call list we belong to?
