Very annoying, Telemarketing Automated Messages come in 2 times a day, almost every day thru the week, since Feb.'09. Already submitted complaints both to FCC & FTC, to no avail. This will work, here is the cure: call back the 800#, when automated message activates,(DO NOT enter acct.# or any personal info.), keep repeating 'Customer Service', 'have no number'. A live Operator will answer, ask for an Account Supervisor, get the Supv. Operator ID# & name. Tell them to take you OFF the Telemarketing Calling List immediately. They will comply, it takes 48hrs. to 2 days to be effective. Worked for me,..!! GC

Yes, I just got a call from this number. Luckily, I almost never pick up my phone, but I recognize it as Capital One. Glad to know there is a scam, but it looks like I'll have to renew the "Do Not Call". I think I remember it expiring sometime soon?

Just received, but did not answer, a call from this number.  (We do not answer calls from unidentified 800 numbers.) They left no message, so I've no idea if it was from somebody claiming to be with Capital One.  I do know one thing - neither your bank nor your credit card company will ask for your account number, because they already have it.  Dozens of people in Middle TN have recently been ripped off by a similar scam.  I advise everyone to protect themselves by NEVER giving out sensitive private info unless you are 100% certain of the caller's identity.

Just got a call from this 800-955-7070 number. I didn't pick up. I called the number back and it asked me for my 16 digit card number.I dialed in 16 0;s and kept at it. Then it asked for my 9 digit social so I did more of the same. I got to this guy and he asked me for my account number and I told him I woulkd only give him my phone number because if they called on my account then they would already have my account info and all they would need is my phone number, the dude couldn't tell me a thing and said he couldn't help me. So I called the number on the back of my card which is totally different then this on 800 # and i talked to a Capitol one Employee and they told me to not give out any information over the phone to a strange number. They were unable to pull up the previous call so they said it is probably a scam. Getting back on the do not call list.

Man called me about 30 minutes ago (#800-955-7070) claiming to be from Capital One, asked for my zip code, but I told him I would call the actual customer service number to see what is happening with my account. Caller sounded flustered and hung up.
I dialed the official customer service #, which is also 800-955-7070, and learned that they did not attempt to call me today.
How do they have my account information (ph#, last 4 #'s of my account, and name) in the first place?

I've been getting calls 2-3 times a day for over a week now.  I don't answer and they don't leave a voicemail. (If you want me to call back, tell me why you are calling - especially if it is a number I don't know!)

Finally, tonight someone left a voicemail saying, "This is so and so from Capital One, please call back." But he didn't say WHAT the call was about. After reading these posts, I am very wary and double checking my Do Not Call registration. God, how annoying. Just want them to stop calling!

Yeah, I didn't answer but came here to see who the number was from.  Noticed the Capital One calls people were mentioning and I do have a card, so I called them.  Indeed I had received a card in the mail, without noticing it, that needed activating.  I appreciated the heads up here and from them.

Call from CapOne. Didn't answer and I'm a cardholder so I'm expecting it was a fraud services call as I just started using the card again after paying it off and no other activity for a while.

From my industry knowledge, the call you are receiving is probably from a third-party verification service. Companies like First Data, who manage cards for large clients, will run fraud screening calls to cardholders to verify transactions. This is probably why people who called the CS # found that there was no record of the call as it won't report to CapOne.

If you don't believe the caller, call the customer service number and verify everything on your account is fine. Many customer service reps don't know this happens so I'm not surprised if they don't know this type of validation is done.

Don't know who called. But seems phoney, as I've read it's total crap.
