- Caller: Capital One
- sbpjrI get calls from this number once a day on my cell phone. I have a C.O. bank account and CC, but I am not going to answer if they don't ever leave a message. It's all very annoying.
The one time I did answer, I wasn't in a position to speak to them, ans after explaining that, his reply was to the effect of "Well, THIS call is very important; did you know that the new legislation ((blah blah blah)and don't you want to save $ and protect your (blah blah blah)???" I said "Didn't you hear me? I CANNOT TALK NOW" and hung up.
After a week or so the calls started again. UNGH!!- Caller: Capital One (?????)
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Ain't No FoolNever got a call like this before-
I answer and some guy asks for me by name then asks how I'm doing tonight. I say, "Great and who is this?", a little short with him. I forget the name he gives then starts in with the same bit as the last guy about new government legislation concerning credit cards and blah blah blah.
Then he cuts himself off and says my account info isn't coming up on his computer and he'll have to get back with me.
This reeks of scam regardless if Capital One shares the same #. Do what I do- save the # under the name DO NOT ANSWER!!!- Caller: NOT Capital One
- Lisa| 1 reply800-955-7070 is the number on the back of my Capital One credit card, so it is a valid number for Capital One. I have yet to be home when they call, but I really wish they'd stop littering my caller ID with their spam.

- Kansas replies to Anonymous| 3 repliesSame thing for me. Legitimate call. I had not activated my new card either. So they did that over the phone, and then explained the new federal legislation that ends over the limit transactions to be processed unless you opt in.

- smithI keep getting hang up calls from 800-955-7070- no messages and constant When I call the number back they say it's Capital One but can't specify why they are calling. I am a good customer and not delinquent in paying and the number that's being called is on a do not call list. I've called them back twice asking that they not call this private phoen number and the calls are starting up again.
- Caller: Capital One?????
- Beware| 1 replyThis is a SCAM! The caller is using a caller I.D. spoofing device which allows them to show any number they want on your caller I.D. for incoming calls. Google 'Caller I.D. spoofing' and see what shows up.
I recieved a call that my caller I.D. shows as 800-955-7070. 'Gordan' said he was with Capital One and had information about an upcoming change to my account. He asked for me by name and provided the last four digits of my card number. Now... he asked for my zipcode. He said he would not give me the info over the phone or mail it to me without me providing him more info to verify my account. (sound familiar?) I told him this call sounded like rouse and he hung up on me.
I immediatly called Capital One fraud department and they said
1) No one from Capital One called me today.
2) Cap One will only ask verification question that require a 'yes' or 'no' answer if they were to call me.
3) Cap One would not refuse to mail the info for any reason.
4) They may or may not already have your credit card number, but these calls are intended to verify and/or obtain personnal information about you in an attempt to make purchases on your card, obtain a new card or steal your identity.
5) **The caller was probably using a device that allows them to have any number they want show up on my caller to trick me into thinking they were really from Capital One.**
I cancelled my card and requested a new one (with a new card number) be sent to me.
If the call sounds like bullcrap, it probably is. Don't take any chances, protect yourself. - Beware replies to BewareCorrection, the number from my last post was 800-955-7070.. not 847
- The Scoop| 1 replyThis is actually a call from an affiliate hired by Capitol One. They want to talk you out of the new ligislation and wave your right to the over limit fee. If you agree they will reduce your over limit fee from $39 to $29. They say that the benefit is there for you as a customer and they are looking out for you but in reality you are paying them hundreds of dollars in penalty and fees that the new law is supposed to protect you from.

- OneLoveI have received a call from this number every day. I never answer and they leave no messages. I called the 800 number listed on the back of my Capital One credit card and the customer service rep did verify that the (800) 955-7070 number is a legit Capital One number - that it is a part of their telemarketing department. She said the were trying to reach me to see if I wanted to opt in to a special promotion they are having with their cards right now. She was very polite and only asked for minimal info - my phone number and name. She did not ask for my card number or social. I asked to be removed from the telemarketer list and she put in a request to do so but advised it could take a few weeks to take effect.
It is my understanding that if you have existing business with a company they are permitted to call you for telemarketing purposes regardless of you being on the Do Not Call list. So, if you now or have ever had any type of account with Capital One, they are within their rights to call you. Just ask them to stop.- Caller: Capital One

- Eric replies to LisaYou should read posts before commenting, as it has been widely reported that the number, while a real Capital One number, is being spoofed and is a fraudulant call.
- Eric replies to JerryIt is a spoof of a Capital One number... but even so, if you do business with a company, the Do-Not-Call list doesn't apply. That said business can call you for any reason at any time.
- SkylosOn the eighth call they answered - it was Capital one telling me that unless I opted into a feature, they by law would have to hard-decline over-limit transactions - thus stopping me from going over my credit limit even intentionally!
ROFLMAO, They're so worried about the fees they're going to lose from accidents that they're calling people with a pitch to opt into allowing it spun as a 'emergency feature' that lets you go over the limit in case you have to. The best part is that the fee when you utilize this service? They'll reduce it so they only charge me $29 instead of $39 for going over the limit.
Capital One can go shove it, what a scam.- Caller: Capital One

- lsk replies to Christina| 1 replyi have gotten several calls in a short period of time and finally answered today. it seems they want the cardholder to elect to keep some system of covering charges that would push the balance over the credit line. i'm sure there are fees associated with it but i didn't want the service so i'm not sure what it will cost.
- ConsumerI've gotten phone calls from this number about 3 times this year (multiple times in the given week). The reps when you call the customer service number don't really know what they're calling about and have a general "we asking you about a special promotion" bit. This last call I was able to answer was asking me to opt in to overlimit fees after Feb '10.
- Been There replies to NA| 2 repliesHey Ben,
Don't you believe it. I had a bank reach in and take money
out of my account after their branch manager said they could not
do it.
Also, I had another bank clear someone else's check (different name, bank, acct # and color) on my account.
At least the second bank said they were sorry when I called
them on it.
Been There - littlemidgetcapital one trying to get reduce over the limit rate bull crap because of the new laws passed....I told them don't call me any more about marketing campaigns
