- Anonymous| 12 repliesAnswered this call, it was actually a very nice and helpful lady from Capital One asking if my new card had been lost or stolen, as it had not been activated. I had indeed received a new card from them a few weeks previously and had not activated it, so it was actually a REAL phone call! She was very friendly, and had I not been travelling across the country and in a different time zone, it would have been 7:38pm instead of 9:38pm local time when she called, so not bad at all. I thanked her for following up on my new account, and she assured me that I would not receive any other unnecessary calls (though I did not ask). I wish I could remember her name.
I think this is the first time that a legitimate call was received! :)- Caller: Capital One

I got a call from a the real captol one number (caller id:800-955-7070) and the automated voice said the following:
This is capitol one calling for __my first and last name__.
We want to ensure that you have already received,
through the mail, the exciting news about your capitol one account
and to look in the mail in the next few days for what we are sending you. If you have any questions please feel free to call capitol one at 1-888-213-8847. Thank you.
This was pretty close to what the voice mail said, I erased it before I could write it down.
I verified the caller id number and was about to call the number given in the voice mail to see what was going on. Then I check 1-888-213-8847 number out and found that it was fake.
DON'T TRUST YOUR CALLER ID!!!! ONLY GIVE INFORMATION OVER A VERIFIED #!!! - bob| 1 replycap one sucks they want all your money . you pay high intrest dont get a cap one they suck

if it is important call from capital one, they will call back - Kay| 1 replyI think these scam companies must be able to manipulate our caller IDs somehow. I say that because, I received a call from this phone number. When I answered the man spoke very poor English and knew my name. The man continued to say that his company, something medications, had a special price for my prescription refill. I asked several times how they had my number and knew my name, but the man just went back into his sales pitch. After the 3rd call from that number on the same day, I demanding I be taken off their call list and for them to stop calling me or I was reporting their number and name to authorities. I haven't gotten a call since, but its only been a few days.
Hope that helps. - Spoof callsIt is very easy for anyone to spoof (fake) your Caller ID. Just Google spoof caller id and you will see many companies offering products which purport to allow anyone to place fake numbers on your caller ID. It is illegal for a collector to mask their identity so there is a lawsuit right there. As for telemarketers, a little harder, but if you are on the DNC list then there is another lawsuit or complaint.
- Brooke replies to KayI didnt answer the call I got from this number last night a 7pm, but I have recieved this call about the prescription card. The man that called was not very friendly and spoke to me like I was a moron. He even made a conference call to my pharmacy to ask them if they accepted the plan. He was extremely rude to my pharmacist and his receptionist. He was very pushy, telling me I must have been referred by my physician when I asked how he got my name. I told him Id have to think about it and asked him to call me in a week. Never heard back from him. pretty sure this is a rip-off company. I dont remember the name of the company, but I did look them up that day and they have tons of lawsuits against them.DONT BUY INTO THIS!!!!!
- jenCALLED TO TELL ME TO ACTIVATE ME CARD...BELIEVE ME I FI WANTED IT ACTIVATED I WOULD HAVE ALREADY DONE IT!

- AnnoyedUpstateNY| 1 replythey just called at 850pm..I looked at the phone perplexed and my husband asked who it was, I knew the phone number as I have dialed it many times.
I knew it was capital one.
I didn't answer and they haven't left a message.

- AnnoyedUpstateNYIT WAS CAPITAL ONE, THEY JUST CALLED
They sent me out a new card, b/c one of the ones I have with them is coming up for expiration, and they saw that I had not activated it, I advised them I have not received it. They are canceling and re-issuing me a new one.
All they asked me to confirm was my zip code and dob.
Hope this helps people :)- Caller: Capital One
- Call type: Valid
- LI received this call and gave the woman my billing zip code. She then had access to my information and claimed she had activated my card. She told me my new card was activated and all was well but I started to feel uneasy about it so I called the number listed on Capital One's website which happened to be the same number and spoke to a representative there. He told me that he felt that it was a suspicous call and while he didn't know how they got the caller ID to come from their number that he did not think the call actually came from Capital One. Since I had lost the card not long before and now this shady deal had gone down I cancelled the card and had them send me a new one. If this number is calling you don't pick up, Call Capital One yourself (Enter in the numbers, don't call the number back from your call log) to have them activate the card
- n/a replies to JasonA guy called and said CapitalOne had sent a special offer that was due to expire although the address he had for me is out of date. I'd consider it to be questionable...my mailing address is correct on their website so I'm not sure who's calling. They tried to get me to sign up for a 0% interest offer, and even said they would send me checks I could deposit into an interest baring account etc.. but rates are so low these days it's not worth the hassle
- D| 3 repliesNumber calls me at least once I day, I don't pick up and they don't leave a message. I got suspicious and looked up the number, it belongs to same guy named Larry Scinto who owns a business called Capital One Funding in VA. This is NOT Capital One. When you call this number back, first thing it asks you to do is enter your 16 digit credit card number. If you enter in a bunch of 0's a few times it eventually takes you to a different menu. Play around with those choice, you'll either get a live person who speaks bad English again asking for your credit card number, or another menu tree which asks you for your 9 digit SSN. Total scam, this is definitely NOT legit.
- Ed Edwards replies to Christina| 3 repliesI cannot call 800-955-7070 for service. It asks me to say or enter my 16-digit card number.
1. If I say it, it yells foul before I've said 16 numbers (must not be used to us Southern folk: each number has three syllables, you know :-)
2. If I key it in my cheap cell phone, it times out. To bad I don't always get a number when I feel a click :(
Open Statement to Capital One:
I pay every month. I am what is known as a GOOD CUSTOMER. Please don't sell me down the river in favor of a new customer who might be a bad debt. I am voting to keep your company from getting more Federal Welfare. - Amanda| 11 repliesThe phone rings 1/2 ring and hangs up. When I call back it wants my credit card number.. Says that it's capital one.. Sorry, but I'm not a dumba$$.. I don't give out my credit card number, dob, or social security number on the phone unless I know exactly who I am speaking with. If this were a legit call, there would be other options.. like being able to talk to a real person without giving out your number. Anyone know how to report this number to the right authorities?? Thanks!
