    THIS IS NOT CAPITAL ONE.  I have 4 valid accounts and never get calls from Cap 1 so I was suprised that I did.  Calling back, I get the message to enter my account number.  When I pressed the button for an option, I get pre-recorded "technical difficulties" message.  

    I did get a live person once and questioned him.  He was slick and said, "Well let me try to help you, if you can tell me the account number you are calling about, I can look it up"  Slick Slick Slick  -  Not.  

    Capital One verified they did not try to reach us on any account.  Even if it was over a new card not activated yet, they don't need your account number because....they already haveit.  They issued it to YOU.

    They said policy is, hang up and call them back on a valid number from your credit card statement.  Do not give your account number to anyone who calls you. Ever.  

    A follow up for a replacement card, new card, or updated card that has not been activated would only ask you to verify that you received it.  Again, they don't need you to enter any numbers of your credit card.  

    I filed a police report.  They are able to trace the true identity of the phone number owner and have proper agencies take action.  If the call is valid from Capital One, they will be notified that callers are concerned about providing info and take immediate action.  It's possible some one works for them and is trying to scam some info for profit.  It helps Capital One shut down fraud against their consumers.

    Caller ID stated it to be "Toll Free Service" . I did not answer, instead, checked it out on this site.
    I let it ring through to my answering machine, and no message was left.

    I've rec'd a call from this number every night around 7:30-8:30pm PST on my cell phone, but I never answer it. Finally at work today, I called that number directly and sure enough, I was prompted to enter my 16 digit credit card number. To get through the menus, I made up a number 1234-5678-9012-3456, selected "account information" and then 111-11-1111 for the SSN when it asked for it. Finally I did get to a live person and explained to her that I would not give her any information but would like this number removed. She did identify herself as Capital One - she was very nice, but did not press me for information. I didn't give her my name, but when I gave her my cell # to look up, she did have my name then and I said "yes, that is me" - she put me on hold for a few minutes then came back and said that my acct. has been notated to not telemarket. I asked her what these calls were and she said they were telemarketing calls for offers from Capital One. I told her its a very bad way to do it, especially if they don't leave a message. She agreed. lol

    I don't feel it was that shady, but i can't be 100% certain it is a legitimate call. I am going to call Capital One from the # on my bill later to see if they know about this, however the important thing is to not give out your credit card number or any other personal information.

    I missed call and returned the phone call and it said Capital One so I gave my information.  I then thought it might be fraud so I contacted Capital One and they did verify this is one of there numbers.

    If this is Capital One and they have legal business with me, why do they not leave a message? I got a call earlier from 800-955-7070, which was also identified to be Capital One. They also did not leave a message. I went to their website and into my account and asked that they stop calling. This technique has worked with other companies, so hopefully it will work for them.

    It is Capital One, they are calling to soliciate some new program or special they have.  If you call them and ask them to remove you from their telemarketing list they will do so.

    Being in a state with the highest # of incidents of identity theft, I question ALL numbers.  I called this 800# and bypassed the requested info. by simply pressing bogus #'s.  Finally patched me to a "live" body, of which I could NOT get a valid answer to any of my questions.  She continously kept asking for my credit card #.  Ah no, sorry, don't play that game.  I hung up on her and have blocked the #.  Valid or not, I don't provide that information, unless I INITIATE the call.

    Typical scammer post trying to get people to call so they can steal their money.

    I have been receiving calls from 800-955-7070 on my cell phone once a day for the last week.  They leave no message.  I did a reverse number search on whitepages.com and it "says" it is Capital One in Covington, Louisiana.  I do have a an account with Capital One, but strongly suspect this is a fake caller ID, and is a phone scam to get your credit card number.  I will not return these calls.  I am on the Do Not Call List.

    YOU call THEM and ask them if they are trying to contact you and why.

    If you're getting messages supposedly from this number, and they're asking you to call a DIFFERENT number that asks for your card number. DON'T!

    Simple rule I live by now: NEVER answer ANY call from toll free number. EVER. Don't call them back either. If I want to talk to a company, I will call THEM. Period. Get a phone with number blocking.

    I started getting calls from this number last week. They call everyday and never leave a message. I thought it was suspicious, so i googled it and saw it was a scam. It is a scam. Don't even answer the phone call.

    I've been getting calls from this number for over a week at least 3 times a day.  I finally picked it up today.  Woman asked to speak to me and then ask to verify my zip code.  I told her the zip code and she said that wasn't the one they had on file.  Lies because I use this card at the gas pump and have to put in my zip code and never have an issue.  Then she tried to get me to sign up for some account protection service.  I hung up on her.  She noted I'd been a customer since 2006.  It may be Capital One or it may not but either way, if I want account protection I'll call and ask for it!

    called from cap one offering a protection plan . i declined -than rep requested zip code to remove me from list (callback that is) i told him i cant reveal cause i honestly dont trust him he said ok no worrieS. its prob a sales floor outbound to offfer upgrades. Greedy [***] co. cant get enough off interest and wants to charge goo cardholders for [***] woethless services. Protection my ass once something happens you have to go through the same exact procees to correct it with or without them!! believe me __from experience twice

    Keeps calling me in the morning and after lunch time. No one on the line. Just a recording asking for information. No message ever left for me from Cap one. I will not be answering the call because I'm certain it's bogus. Thank you to people who posted here. I am tired of people stealing info.
