I rec'd this call today from the same number no message left, so as usual I looked up the number online and got this page.  however with further investigation this is the customer service number to Capital One.  I called it kept entering 0s as my card # and also as my social security number finally got a lady on the phone who wanted to know what my phone number was, then she proceeded to ask for the last 4 of my social which I would not give her since she called me she should have to this info. She proceeded to look at my account said everything was up to date and did not know the reason for the call as nothing was logged on my file.  So to anyone who does recieve this call just be careful not to give any information until they can verify who you are, also this number is on the back of my capital one card.

A lady asked me to verify my zip code so she could access my information and tell me about some sort of account protection service.  I told her I was not interested and hung up, but I have not authorized anyone to call me on my cell phone so it was very fishy.  I will call CapitalOne to report it.

I would recommend NOT giving ANY information.

This is a legitimate number you can look it up on the capital one website:
"Report a lost or stolen credit card 1-800-955-7070"
I still don't see why they should be calling you if you've never called them before.

    Caller ID Spoof
Scammers can spoof, or fake, a caller ID to show any number they want. This is likely a such a scam where the Caller ID shows a legit number (Capital One), but the caller has nothing to do with Capital One and is just trying to get your personal info to steal your ID and/or money. Don't give them any information at all, and call Capital One from the number on the back of your card to verify if they actually need something.

I thought the same thing, but that number is on the back of my Capital One credit card. It's the customer service number. Not sure why they are calling if I didn't call them but it's not a phoney number.

I take it back!! I just called Capital one and pressed zero for my information until I got a real person. I made them look up my account with ONLY my name and phone number. He said that there was nothing wrong and that Capital One would not just called me for the heck of it and not leave a message. He said to NOT give out my info if they call again.

Bottom line, I think someone might be calling from a number and masking it as a Capital One customer service number (if that's even possible). Because the number calling me is the Capital One customer service number but the guy I spoke to said they didn't call me!!

Moral of the story, if they call and ask for information, tell them you would like to hang up and redial for security reasons. I bet they hang up on you!!!

I received a call from this number, and a nice woman said she was calling from Capital One, and gave the last 4 of my credit card no.  She then asked me to verify my billing zip... Funny thing is, she had the OLD address that had been changed about 6 months prior.  She pulled up my account information using my birthday, and then I asked her about updating my address... She said she needed the last 3 digits (CID) on the back of the card to update it... Which of course made me hesitate.

I stopped there because it just seemed strange that she wouldn't have the updated address, even though it was updated and I had been receiving mail from them (I double checked afterward and it was correct online).  I'm glad I stopped because she was trying to sell me some sort of payment insurance - I am not sure if it was really Capital One (some division that is obviously pretty far removed to not have correct account details) or if it was a scam.  Either way, I decided I would be the one reaching out to Capital One if I needed anything...

If it was Capital One, step up.  Customers don't want to think that they're being scammed with your name being used...

I have had Capital One for many Years. They have been there for me. Yes, I agree the Interest is High. BOA is worse. I Love Capital One. If I do want something from them I will call them. Does everyone Know that all you have to do is. Tell them You do not want Adds or to buy anything more from them if you tell them. That you will call them. Capital One does send off the Updates to your account and the other add on which you can get from Capital One. I think The only thing would be DROP THE INTEREST TO CASH & MERCHANDISE WHICH YOU CHARGE TO BUY.

Received a call from this number earlier this afternoon.  I didn't answer it since I didn't know who it was.  They did not leave a message and I did not call back since they didn't leave a message.  I looked up the number online and saw that it was supposed to be Capital One, which I do have an account with.  I have not made any transactions in the past few months and am always on time with my payments.  I checked my account online and everything looks good, no recent transactions, no late fees.  I find it hard to believe that it was just marketing since Capital One is constantly mailing out offers, never calling me with them.  Capital One has only called me once in the entire time that I've had a card with them, and that was a few years ago when I made a huge shopping purchase after not using my card for so long.  They wanted to make sure that it was actually me who made the purchase.

Called the number and got the same "enter your 16-digit ID."  Hung up and called Capital One's customer service number on the back of my card.  The guy said I had received a couple of promotional calls. When I told him the voice said "Capital One, enter your 16-digit ID," that stopped him cold and he had me hold the phone.  When he came back I told him Capital One knew my 16-digit ID so why were they asking me for it.  He decided that this was a scam call (duh).

    um... replies to DKH
I'm going to go ahead and call [***]. First, I've left cards pass their expiration, for multiple companies, and no one has ever called with a friendly reminder. Second, I too called the number back because I posses a Capital One card. The automated voice response asked directly for my credit card number. They even offered to take it in Spanish if I would just "Marque el dos".
I did not give them my credit card number for blatantly obvious reasons. Also, phone number masking has been available for at least a couple of years now (via the interwebs). I remember my friends trying to prank me when it first came out. One actually scared another one pretty badly.
I don't believe anyone who says that's the number on the back of their card's though. It's not on mine, and a google search turns up sites like this one and not the "contact us" page on capitol-freaking-one.com?

I'm glad I looked this one up because I've gotten this call twice.  It came not to my home phone but to a prepaid cell phone i keep turned off for emergency purposes only.  only a handful of people know the number and I have never used it to call but a few people I know.  No message was left.  Where they got my number is puzzling and if i find out verizon is selling my information i will be pissed!

Checked my Capital 1 online and they had no messages for me. I have never received calls from them until this number. I have never had a card immediately ask my credit card number, especially sinc´ they called me. This is so a fraud.

Got this call today. I picked up an this lady identified herself as someone from Capital One. She then asked if she's speaking with "my name" to which I replied yea. She then asked me for my zip code. At this point I was skeptical and did not give her my zip code. Istarted askin her who she is again. She then repeated my mailing address and asked again for my zip code so she could verify my account. At this point I knew it was a total scam and I started being rude to her and talking tough. I then told her I was teacig this phone call using my computer software and am passing it on to the FBI. Then I hung up on her. After this I calle the real CapitalOne and they said they ha no record of calling me. Go figure scammers.

Wonder why they don't leave a message if it's that important.  Isn't that what voicemail is for?  I am at the office so I didn't answer my cellphone.
