Very polite gent with Indian accent. Said he represented Experian re. lowering my credit card interest rates, blah, blah. I hung up right after telling him how much I admire his country of origin...

I got a call from this number, it's labeled as Capital One on my caller ID.  I was unable to answer but they didn't leave a message.  If you don't leave a message, I don't consider worthy and you don't get a call back, simple as that.

Male caller repeated 'Hello' three times to answering machine to get his 'call counted.'

People that talk to answering machines aren't legitimate in my opinion

First of all the Caller ID showed a V41418041007 which we all know is a phony call. When I answered it there was a man named Brian with a Eastern Indian accent asking me how I was doing today. I told him I was fine until he called. He hung up. Guess he figured out I knew he was a phony.

Have received two phone messages from these clowns now. They tell me to call back the regular Cap One number on my card. When I do, the outsourced 3rd world yuckapuck on the phone has no idea.

It's got to be a scam -- as i do not have a Cap One card!

    But... no message left anyway.

Remember -- it's easy to spoof number and name on caller id.

    The Little Engine That Couldn't
The number 800-955-7070 is a legit Capital One phone number, however the number on your caller ID may have been spoofed to look like it's coming from Capital One but in all actuality it's not the company.

I received a call 07/17/21 from what was purported to be Capital One. However a few problems with that.  The biggest one being that my home phone number (that I rarely rarely ever use outside of family) was called.  My Capital One profile and contact information doesn't list my home number as a point of contact anywhere, which makes me believe this person was cold calling, hoping to get a bite.

Next thing that threw up red flags, in addition to their thick foreign accent, was his offer or rather "Capital One's" offer to help lower the interest on my credit card.  This person then proceeded to ask me how much debt I'm carrying on my card to which I responded that if they are from the Capital One office and they are authorized to lower my interest rate, this should be information they should already have.  Which he provided that they have the information in their "database" but needed to verify it for identification purposes.

At that point I then stated, how can you knowing my credit card balance help identify who I am when you haven't even asked me to identify myself.  To which there was what seemed like a very long pause.  Then the guy tried to go into his spiel again at which point I replied I'm not interested and hung up.

Bottom line...always verify with the caller before volunteering up any information.  Any company (whether it's banking, mortgage, or anything else) that's calling you shouldn't be asking you to verify information they should know. If you push back and they can't give you that information or are vague...it's most likely a scam.  Can't blame Capital One in this case.

Claimed to be Visa and MasterCard, didn't realize they had merged. Clearly spoofed #. Told the caller what they could do with his various body parts and hung up/blocked.

It's a legit Capital One number, but it's being forged. I don't answer calls not in my address book, so I looked it up after they called. I called Capital One's number from my card, and they looked up my accounts and said nobody there contacted me.

Called me twice today. Live person both times. A man the first time, a woman the second time. Both said their name was Daniel. The script was exactly the same both times. They said they were with visa/MasterCard and because I have such a good credit history, Experian has decided to lower my interest rates. Each then asked if I have heard of Experian. I played along both times and each time, as soon as I said I always pay off my credit card bill fully at the end of the month, they hung up. I guess I won’t get those lower interest rates now.

Credit card rate reduction scam call again, this time with spoofed CID to show CAPITAL ONE and showing their legitimate number.  Dangerous scam to get your credit card and financial information.  Caller, heavily accented, obviously calling from boiler room call center in India again.  SCAM!

Got a call from someone with broken English and said they were calling for Experian and that they wanted to lower my credit card debt.  I said well let me call Experian and see what's going on so I will personally know from them.  He said no they do not answer calls and I told him I called recently and that I was calling and he said he would call and tell them to block my call and they would not answer.

This is a scam. They called me with thick foreign accent trying to approve me for a new card and asking me for SSN. I pissed them off and they called me back using a spoof number. If you call the 800 number it says capital one, also comes up capital one on caller ID. Beware.

The  number is real, but the caller id info was NAME UNAVAILABLE.  So this is a spoofed call with a real Capital One service number.  We don't have a Capital One card so it has been blocked.
