- TexasFellerGot a call (labeled "Private") and the message said to call 1-800-955-9060. I didn't feel comfortable, so I went directly to Chase.com. One of my accounts was not showing, so I called them... apparently someone had tried to use my card (whether they did or not is in question), so they locked down and closed my account. They only asked for the last 4 digits of my card, so I knew they weren't digging.
THIS IS NOT A SCAM... Ever see that commercial with the James Bond theme/Guy at party with wife/Dudes about to buy something with his card...? Yeah. It seems like thats what happened.- Caller: "Ben" from some company
- Huh? replies to jmoney| 1 replyYou mean:
--> Chase called you
--> you checked out your credit bureau report
--> someone opened a Chase card in your name & made charges
--> and you don't think chase figured that out
--> Mmmmmm
--> Ok - So ... replies to GnomesDid you call the 800# on the back of your card? If so, what dig they say?
- Call the 800# ... replies to williamIt's simple, just call the 800# on the back of your card. They will transfer you to the fraud department.
- Wrong ... replies to not_getting_scammedJust call the number on the back of your card.
- Good Post ... replies to piki-ikiAgreed ... If you are not sure, call Chase (main number on back of card), ask to be transfered to the fraud dept.
- KhyfkaThis number is actually legit. Received a call from them after making some equipment purchases online. I returned the call, but to the number on the back of my card - NOT the number they left on my voice mail. Coincidently, the person who answered my call was the exact same person who had called me from the other number. Remember, I reached this person using the number on my credit card. The numbers route to the same location (at least during certain times of the day). They did, in fact, have record of the charges I made online and simply wanted to verify they were legit.
Still, as other have mentioned, by far the best course of action is to always use the phone number on your card - not anything left on a voice mail. If their is a legitimate issue with your card, they will be able to deal with it and you won't have to worry about any phishing going on.- Caller: Chase

- Vinay replies to JessicaOf course, so would a fraudster. The question isn't whether it's right to expect to be asked personal information. It's that the consumer needs to confirm that it's really his bank on the other end of the line.
I received a message from Chase's fraud dept asking to call 800-955-9060 back. Since I didn't recognize the number, I called the number on the back of my card. It automatically forwarded me to the automated fraud detection system. So the incoming call was legit, but asking me to call a non-standard number made it look shady. - suspicious sueGot a call from a person claiming to be from Chase's fraud department (I had applied for a card the day before and used it to make a large purchase online). The person asked for information regarding other banks I use which raised red flags so I told them I wasn't comfortable giving information like that to someone who'd called me. The person gave me 800-955-9060 as the number for me to call (which, I've got to say, if I didn't trust the person calling I wouldn't call the number they gave me, right?) Since this site was undecided as to the legitimacy of the number, I decided to try and contact the fraud department via other means to see if they really wanted to talk to me.
Since I didn't have the card yet I tracked down the number for customer service who transferred me to the fraud department. They did wish to speak to me regarding the purchase the day before and confirmed that the number was legitimate.
Like the others have said...the number IS legitimate but don't call it. Call the number on your card, and you'll know you're safe. - BugsmeReceived voicemail message on my work number regarding possible fraud on my Credit Card and left this number to call back. (Also had a message on my home phone which I retrieved later.)
To be safe, I called the number on the back of my CC instead. After inputting my CC number at the bank's site, it immediately directed me to the Fraud dept. There was definitely fraudulent activity on my account and they have canceled my CC & reissued a new one.
With the ability of Caller ID to be spoofed these days, I would suggest anyone getting such calls to go through the number on the back of their CC rather than any number left in a message.- Caller: Chase VISA

- sorabji| 2 repliesi thought the message telling me to call a number other than the number on my credit card seemed wrong. so i called the chase # on my card, and it turns out they put a hold on my card after they declined a perfectly legitimate charge. they said they did this because new york state (where i live) is apparently having an identity theft epidemic. well, that's what the woman i spoke with said.
to be honest it sounded like a sales call for chase's identity theft protection service, which toward the end of the call was pitched to me -- for only $7 a month.
it seems strange that they're arbitrarily declining purchases, and it's strange as well that they chose to decline a purchase with a company i've done business with on a regular basis for well over 10 years.
this was a routine charge placed on my card by an internet service provider, so i didn't have to deal with any embarrassment of having something like an in-person grocery store or restaurant purchase declined.- Caller: Chase
- GasgetGuy| 1 replyThe caller from this number would not talk to anyone but the AARP Visa card holder, who was not home at the time. They left the number 800-955-9060 as number to call. When they answer that number they say "Fraud Alert, Please enter your full account number". No way am I entering a full credit card number on the phone. No reliable credit card fraud alert will ask for anything except the last 4-digits on the account.
I checked e-mail and there was no e-mail alert form AARP Visa (which i would have received it it was a valid fraud alert. - janice| 1 replyI received a call today asking me to call 1-800-955-9060, and stupid me, I called them back. They didn't ask for my SSN, but they asked to me verify previous addresses, what car I had in the past, the first 8 digit of my other credit cards. I felt real stupid afterwards for doing this, and I called Chase customer service as listed on the Chase.com website, and they said that their fraud department DID NOT RECOGNIZE 1-800-955-9060. So, be careful! Right now, I'll take whatever measure I can to protect myself and file a fraud alert.
- RobJust had the same call. called back that number 8009559060. I told them I didn't trust who they were. They said to call the number of my other Chase card. I did and everything seemed legit

- Sheee replies to Gnomes| 1 replyYou are right! This phone number is a SCAM! They left two messages saying they are from fraude department calling regarding my Toys R Us credit card has some unusual activities on my accounts. I called just to find out what's going on. The first woman said her computer is not working so she transferred me to another person. Since I entered a credit card number ( fake number) so this second lady asked my birthday so I gave them the real one. It took her about 3 minutes to try to find my accounts and then she apologized twice for taking so long and also put me on hold twice. Then she said what number did they called me and I gave her the real phone number then she said shd could not find any fraudlent activities reported on my account asked me to call the phone number on the back of my credit card. (how did she match my birthday and my fake credit card account ???) I asked her for that phone number since I don't have that number handy, then, she said she will be happy to transfer me after putting me on hold for a few seconds. Then I was on hold for more than 5 minutes so I hand up! Curious George !!!!
- Sheee replies to Huh?Huh ? Yes, I agree with you ! What a naive !!! Chase has too much time and money and fun calling people ???

- ChrisThe 955-9060 number called me, showed up as "Private" on my cell, and left a message saying it was fraud prevention and to call it. I did, refused to give any identifying information besides verifying that my card ended in XXXX, at which point she told me to call the number on the back of my card. I did, and that number resulted in a legitimate fraud prevention line with legitimate questions about my recent activity. The person had a note in her computer that I had called the 955 number and declined to give any information. That means that the 800 955 9060 number is definitely connected to Chase in some way.
