I received a letter from from so-called "Fraud Operations" stating that there has been "recent transaction activity appearing on your account." I can't say if this was a scam letter or not, but I can say this: I never activated my card and, when I tried getting on the Chase website using the account number on the card, I got a "No Account Listed" message back. Now, if Chase can't find the account, how the hell can there be any "recent activity" on it? Is the letter a scam? My bet says that it is.

As stated above, this is a legitimate number.  I would still get in contact with Chase via the number on your card but this number is used to notify you of transactions flagged as fraud.

I never respond to stuff like this
But after reading all of the nonsense, I figured I should.  Just got a call don this number. It is legit (though it seems like they do lack some professionalism). I called the chase number on back of my card just to be safe.  It is a chase number. No need to worry. But you should always double check things lie this.

I would say this is a legit phone number. Around 9:00pm today, I was home watching TV on my computer, and then I received a text message, the number you know it is from some company trying to tell you something. The message says my Chase credit card was used in a women's clothing store and spent $319. I thought this was a scammed. I replied 2, which means no, I didn't not make this purchase. The text message replied me back with a phone number to call. I was been suspicious about this phone number and I googled it, then I logged in to my Chase online account and saw a transaction of $290 at Nixon. Then, I got serious, I called the phone number on the back of my credit card, and soon, someone pick up. I told them everything, the text message, the phone number in the text message, and the $290 purchase that went through. The representative gave me a number, which is this number, 800-955-9060, and they transferred me to this number. I spoke to the representative, and yes, she asked my credit card number, but that was it. I was been suspicious, but hey, I called the number in the back of the card, so I think there was no problem? I still don't know. After viewing many comments on this website, I still don't know if they are scam or not. Let's see if Chase cancelled my account and credit back the $290 unauthorized purchase (the $319 was rejected when the theft made the purchase)

I received a voice mail from a man caller claiming to be from Chase fraud prevention, in the message he left  the last 4 digits of my credit card. Typically Chase sends me text messages and emails about fraud and since I haven't made any recent purchases. I knew something didn't seem right. I have not called the number, instead I did research on the internet and found it associated with a scam.

I got an email from chase asking me to click yes or no on a questionable charge. I never click links like that. I went to chase's website secure message center, told them about the email, and told them that the charge was not mine. They responded, and left me a voice mail, asking me to phone 800-955-9060. I phoned the number on my card, they confirmed that 800-955-9060 was a legitimate number, and asked only for my last 4 digits and mother's maiden name.
I am very surprised that chase would send that type of email, or ask me to phone instead of using secure message, but it looks like they actually do it that way. That doesn't however mean I'll ever respond to that type of email, or phone that type of number. I agree with other posters, if you're going to phone ALLWAYS use the number on the card. And let incoming unknown numbers go to voice mail.

Out of the 126  entries in this thread, I count about 50 or so that proclaim this number is somehow "legitimate'.    That's about 40 per cent of the total entries.  Which tells me that the  number is indeed a scam number.

The shill posters are part of a white-collar gang that goes around calling customers of large financial institutions.  Usually banks and credit unions.   They  try to convince  people they call that there is something wrong with either their card or their account.  Or that there has been questionable transactions on the person's card.

They almost always engage in this sort of pre-emptive shilling.

If you talk to them, they start  asking for personal financial information;-- in other words they start engaging in a fishing expedition.

So far as I can figure out, this scam has been going on for about five or ten years.

Most of the regulars on this site recognize the shill attempt,  as well as  the ghost stories the shillers  make up

My own suspicion is that the scammers are located in either Canada or the US .

I also suspect that they think they are  bullet proof.

If in doubt about a transaction concerning  your credit card, call the number on the back of the card.  Or the number on your official credit card statement.

This call is from CHASE. I did a balance transfer to my CHASE CC. Got a call from this number and an e-mail from CHASE. I was worried about this number and the e-mail I got to being a scam of some kind, I called CHASE using the 800 number at the back of my card.  CHASE confirmed the number and the email.

I got a call from 972-512-5500 that said it was Fraud department of Chase where someone had opened an account in my name.   They asked me to call back the 800-955-9060 number.  The person answering sounded exactly like the person who originally called and left a message.   Kind of strange.  They asked for credit card number which of course I did not have.   They asked for SS# and address.  I gave them neither.   They said they closed account and then tried to mail me a gift to open a fraud prevention program like lifeline.   I again said no.  THey did not try to push so not sure if it is legit or not....

    Readers:
    Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

    https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/spoofing-and-caller-id

Read the above again, for understanding!

    Be Safe, Not Sorry!

YOU SHOULD CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

800-955-9060 is the direct number to Chase Fraud Department.  If in doubt (since a number can be mimicked) call back on the number on the back of your card.

If this really is Chase or their fraud dept. why would their caller ID not show up???
Instead the caller ID was 'UNKNOWN' - very unprofessional the least but more likely a good indication that this is a scam.

check out the Chase web site for reporting fraud:

    https://www.chase.com/digital/resources/priva ... ty/report-fraud

You don't see the 9060 number showing up anywhere!
However, there is a very similar number listed that is a REAL CHASE number: 800-955-8060.

Typical scammer/fishing tactics to have something that looks very similar to the real thing.

800-955-9060 IS ***NOT*** A VALID CHASE NUMBER - if it was it would be listed on the web site referenced above.

I received a letter in the mail to call 800-955-9060 (302-594-8200 for int’l calls) due to fraudulent activity on my card. They knew the last 4 digits of my cc number. I did not get a call, nor did I make the suggested call. I did, however, call Chase Bank at the number on the back of my card.  Chase confirmed this letter did not originate from them.
