I apparently sent a text with this number (I don't remember it), because I was charged for an international text message from Verizon Wireless...when I called to complain that it was a Utah number, the woman on the line gave me attitude, explained to me how international texting works and said that she would give me a "one time courtesy credit" which...first of all, it's twenty five cents, so get off your high horse, and secondly...since when is Utah international?!  Anyone else getting that they SENT something to this number?

keep getting this text message from 11-222-2269. What do I do

These messages are in fact from OZ mail and can be stopped only by Verizon Wireless Technical support, however, you need to be sure that you talk to their tier 2 support team because the first support people you talk to have no idea what to do - even after I told them what I read on these message boards.

Basically with a feature phone you need an email client to be able to accept email, but with a smart phone you don't need this, so when you switch over to a smart phone it is automatically taken with you and that's what screws things up and causes a million text messages.

I'm happy to report that after 30 hours and 158 text messages, my issue has finally been resolved.  I will be reporting this to the two stores I visited while trying to get this resolved so that they can help other customers in the future!

    Of Course
Just got off the phone with Verizon.  Tried telling them about this thread, what the Verizon Rep posted, and even read them the message above this one.  Tier 1 had no idea what I was talking about and neither did Tier 2.  The tier 2 rep I talked to was pretty rude, and she said she could block premier messaging but that's all they can do.  We'll see if it works.

I replied STOP to the number and it stopped but I was chaged .25 for an international text message. After talking to the first rep was when I found the number on my bill and googled it to find this blog. I talked to another rep who was able to make sure premium messaging and animated messaging were blocked as well as the number that sent the txt. She also credited the .25 back and a good bonus for being loyal for several years. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, this creeped me out.  I called verizon and they said they blocked the number and made a note so that I am not charged in the future.  Thank you for your advise.

BREW is a Verizon application indicator.  My problem was that when I upgraded to droid pro from an nV3, I had the City ID application on the old phone.  So every time someone called my old phone (handed down to my teen son), I was getting the text.  One visit and five calls later, tech support realized it was City ID and canceled it from the original phone.  Hoping it works!

I just got a text from an 11-801-222-2269 number, saying if I want to block this I will have to reply and respond stop, but I will be charged.  Kind of illegal right.

I just got off the phone with Verizon. It turns out this is a scam. Verizon has blocked this #. I was also informed by the rep that this is also occuring with other carriers. Be warned this is a scam. Make sure to report this to the proper authorities and call your carrier to have it blocked.

I just got a new phone about a month ago & keep getting spam texts which I didn't before. I registered my number on the Do Not Call registry at donotcall.gov & then emailed them about unsolicited texts & the following is the email I rec'd back:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding how you can stop companies from soliciting your business through text messages to your cell phone.  Please refer to the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) web site for rules addressing unsolicited text messages: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/canspam.html .   FCC rules make it unlawful to use an automatic dialing system or prerecorded voice to call (or text) any telephone number assigned to a cellular telephone service unless the caller has obtained consent from the called party.   In addition, it is unlawful to send a text message, without consent of the recipient, to a cellular phone if there is an Internet reference in the address to which the message is sent (and the domain name in the address has been listed on the FCC’s wireless domain names list for at least 30 days before the message was initiated).  To file a complaint against a company for violating the above rules, please go to http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm.

Just go to the web addresses & fill out complaints!

The Verizon service rep I just spoke with said that a Premium Text is something that is to/from a 5 digit code (like Jamster or those you see to vote on American Idol, etc).  You can have blocks put on, but the rep doesn't have anything about a corporate wide block out of this particular 801 number to customers.

    Verizon Options are:
-block the particular # (good only for 90 days) from contacting you.  You may STILL by accident respond.

-Block Premium Text AND Premium Animated Texts (in and out).  The trouble with this is if you do use any 5 digit numbers, this will not allow you to any further.

Stupid texts from 801-222-2269. You are now BLOCKED! Go to Verizon and block them. You might have to update it every 90 days. I'm surprised (not really) that Verizon hasn't laid the hammer on this scam.

    TECH
I work in VZW tech and I had a customer today with this same issue. Its not a SCAM its a system flaw. What happens if if you for from a phone that had mobile email application and then activate a smart phone that doesn't have mobile email it keeps sending this message every time you get an email from and account you were useing mobile email with. This internation company translates the emails into text and sends them to the phones. Verizon Tech support has a tool called OZ Mail that we can log into and stop this service from happening and can also issue credit for any international charges that may have been applied for this reason.
