- Al| 32 repliesThey claim to be a law office under the name Peter Stephan Barristers however they will not provide a mailing address and I can not locate in the directory
- sens| 6 repliesyeah me too, and have googled them and nothing comes back
- who knows replies to sens| 1 replyHave you failed to pay your membership at Good life fitness?
I believe they are bill collectors pretending to be lawyers to scare you into paying. - A Real LawyerVery pathetic. It's the GoodLife "repo" people...they can go screw themselves. This is what happens when you get the "FREE" Membership,...they auto-bill you and then expect you to pay in full.
The chick on the phone didn't even know who she was calling from... "I'm calling from, um, Peter, um, Stephan (pause) Barristers regarding a very urgent matter..." Yeah, kiss my ass. No law office would have such an amateur leaving messages, it would destroy their credibility. If they call, don't answer - they'll eventually stop.- Caller: Peter Stephan Barristers c/o GoodLife

- Ridiculous| 2 repliesI only realized what was happening with these idiots once I read the above posts. There was a fraud committed against my bank account, so the bank changed my information. Naturally Goodlife could not take payments, but didn't even notify me. I was too busy to realize this for a few months. They simply handed my account over to these people who have been posing as a barrister's office and harassing me. Half of the people calling sound like they're drunk or high. They also pose as "TC and Milan Barristers." I've been reading up and this company is not allowed under law to pose as another business to trick people into paying. I think this is really unprofessional of Goodlife. This whole situation would have been totally avoided if they would have simply told me that they couldn't access my account for bill payment, it's totally ridiculous. I've paid Goodlife back, and I received another call a couple of days ago.

- scaredshitlessA person identifying themselves as William/Peter Stephens Barristers called my home asking to speak to me concerning a "legal matter", while I was not home. They did not know whether I was male/female and refused to give any sort of definitive information to the person who answerd at my residence as to what the call was concerning.
They left a number (1-866-619-4296) and a "reference" number. I called the phone number back and immediately the very young sounding woman who answered asked for a reference number. It did not sound like a legitimate law office. I proceeded to ask for a name of the person I was speaking to and an address and postal code, which she gave me:
460 (?) Mannilla RD S.E.
Calgary, AB
T2G 4B7
She then aggressively kept insisting that I give her a reference number (also why this didnt sound like a legit law office)and I proceeded to tell her I am only calling for an address. She asked why and I hung up.
I found it very strange of how very sure she was I had a reference number by calling this number if this was a real legit law firm.
From reading these posts I definitly figured out that it must be GoodLife Fitness because I too had a membership, which I cancelled with the required 30-day notice over the phone. GoodLife fitness continued to bill my bank account membership fees for 2 additional months thereafter even though I had cancelled my membership @ customer care 1-800 number, which I was given by the gym b/c I was too sick to go in to cancel in person. When I contacted GoodLife fitness head office for a refund for billing me even though I had called and spoken to a rep who had confirmed cancellation they refused to provide a refund and additionally told me that my membership was still active and that I had to go in person (I was told that this is the ONLY way to cancel a membership, however exceptions can be made, as in my case where I could not go in person, to cancel at head office 1-800 number via telephone). I spent approximately 2 hrs on the phone trying to sort out the mess and in the end they told me they couldnt do anything and hung up on me.
The next week I went to my bank and ordered a stop payment and advised my bank that GoodLife fitness is no longer authorized to remove funds from my account.
A few months later I recieved a threatening letter in the mail from GOODLIFE telling me I owed them over $500 in fees and to pay immediately (yea right). I ripped it and threw it in the garbage.
If it was not for this site I would never have figured out who these fake William Stephen [***] barristers are.
Thanks!- Caller: William/Peter Stephen Barristers
- SaskI just a call from Peter Stefan Barristers saying I needed to call them regarding a business matter. They referenced me by my first name on the machine and did not sound like a law office. Generally these types of business' do not call at 630 in the evening. Thanks for this website, as I was freaking out wondering what this was in reference to.
- Caller: Unknown Name
- Krisitna| 2 repliesCaller's name was Karen Silver. She indicated she was with the office of Peter Stephen Barristers & Solicitors and that I was to call immediately regarding an urgent matter and she left a file number to reference.
This is totally unacceptable. GoodLife Fitness tries to manage their business according to some written rules that their own staff don't abide by. I personally presented in the club on 4 separate occasions requesting to have my membership cancelled. On each visit I was told that ONLY A MANAGER could process the request and that the manager was not available and I would have to book an appointment. I travel for business and could not afford to make appointments and told them I would return. After 4 separate attempts and no success I put stop payment on the account and then was able to cancel the membership. Now I am being pursueed for 1 payment's worth because they do not follow the same rules they stipulate for their memebers.- Caller: Stated to be Peter Stephen Barristers

- I broke a contract, and I had to pay.| 10 repliesI also received a call from This lawfirm and called them back and they said it was the Peter Stephan Barristers & Solicitors office. I gave them the referance number for my file at thier office that they left on my answering machine when asked. They advised me that I had an outstanding balance due to Goodlife Fitness for a contract I had signed about a year ago and forgot to cancel. They explained the charges to me and after reviewing the contract I seen that I had failed to cancel in writing as required and that I was actually in default of the contract. The person on the phone was actually very helpful in helping me resolve the matter and very professional about it.
I sent my payment to and made it payable to:

I read some of the post on here and was quite worried but thank god I called them to see what they had to say because it seemed that all of the other posts on here make them sound like they are not legit! I confirmed with Goodlife that they have this law office handle the delinquint or broken contracts for them and that PS B&S are legit. So for anyone else that reads these things as I did I reccomend that you do not listen to all the gloom and doom you read here as it seems some people just don't want to own up to thier contractual obligations!! I paid what I owed and will never let myself get so freaked out from what I read on the internet like I did this time around as it was a waist of anxiety. I am appauld that some of the posts on here, trying to sully a company because you don't want to pay a bill. I always thought my fellow Canadians were better then this!!- Caller: Peter Stephan Barristers & Sollicitors
- Not Sure What to Do ??| 2 repliesWow, I had no idea that so many others were in the same boat.
My daughter had a membership also at Good life and finally cancelled it and had the bank stop the auto payments on her account.
But we also recieved a recorded message and a reference #. My daughter called and found that she owes $275 but if she sends in a cheque within 24 hrs she only has to pay $214.60. Unfortunately I can't investigate this further on her behalf as she is over 18 yrs old. But it all sounds a little sketchy and I'm not sure I should be sending out the payment.
Who are these people? Has anyone been able to resolve this without making the payments they are asking for? Will they go away eventually, is this just a scare tactic ?- Caller: Peter Stephan Barristers & Solicitors
- Ontman| 2 repliesI got a call from the "law office." I advised them that I wish to repay my deby but will need time considering it is the holiday season. She says I have to pay now. I asked her what will happen if I don't, she says "I'll keep calling." They are a legitimate collection agency but I question if they are an actual law office. In Alberta just about everything seems to go. I'm going to repay to Goodlife directly so they don't get any of the collection commission. I used to be a bill collector for Collectcorp.
I'm glad I have a call blocking app on my phone!!- Caller: Peter Stefan Barristers

- Not Sure What to Do ?? replies to OntmanMy daughter called Goodlife today and was told the amounts were correct and that this Collection Agency did in fact represent them.
I agree about the commision thing. How did you find out what you owed to Goodlife without the commision fees?
I would much rather clear this up this way, and so would my daughter.
Thanks - oceania| 1 replyFor those of you who "owe" Good Life money, how many of you paid them? I just a letter from Peter Stephan, should I just ignore or will they harass me and for how long?

They appear to act as a collection agency for GoodLife.
GoodLife should take some of the money it spends on advertising and use it to provide some REAL customer service! Then they might get repeat customers, or at least a reputation for honest business practices! - file a BBB complaint| 1 replyHi all,
When I signed up for a GL contract, they refused to give me a copy (and didn't inform me that it's available online, until I tried to cancel and they informed me of the cancellation policy in the contract, that I supposedly should be aware of), and when I canceled my membership they continued to charge me, somehow mysteriously losing my cancellation form. In any case, I've seen so many complaints out there, yet when I check their Better Business Bureau rating, they've got an A+! Only a few dozen complaints listed. PLEASE, file a complaint with the BBB! It'll make it official, and perhaps help some of us poor shmucks who try to fight Goodlife. - Andi| 3 repliesI also have an old account with Good Life Fitness. Actuall I cancalled my membership but they kept sending me notices for payment. I moved so now they try to pull this crap.. Oh well, sucks to be them
Has anyone returned the call? - sueSame here phone call but it was from 866 940 9454.. i called back and they were too busy to answer my call asked me to leave a message.
I was with goodlife for 10 years only attended 6 of them.. I cancelled at their office in writing and the next day they took 2 payments out and bounced my account. Now they want the 34.00 plus 25 for nsf??? I have the cancellation in my hand and it states... was not notified of payment withdrawal... Still no notification and now im in collections what about the 4 years of payments I made and didn't use the fricken gym...
I agree these are not lawyers... they are collectors and they aren't registered because they don't go by the rules.. I know becasue my daughter is a certified collection agent... they'll go away eventually...- Caller: Peter Stephan B & S
- Sandy replies to AndiI have tried numerous times to call them back but continue to get there voicemail. I also had a previous membership with Good Life and cancelled. I agree with you sucks to be them cause they won't be getting a dime from me! I would just like to thank whom ever started this blog as I was not sure who these people were.
- NadirasI just got a call from them too. I cancelled my membership and have the papers to prove it. I had heard about how GL sometimes tries to take out payments even after. So I went ahead and put a stop payment on my account just to make sure. Sure enough they tried taking out another payment.
The lady who called me said her name was Karen and that I owed $51.02 that needed to be paid immediately. I wanted to see how far they would go. So I told her sorry you have the wrong number and the person you were looking for was using this as their contact number only. She got upset with me and started asking a bunch of questions, but I politely reminded her of the rules and the fast that once the company was informed they have the wrong number they are not allowed to call anymore. Lol again she was very upset but said they would never call again.- Caller: Peter Stephen Barristers and Solicitors
