- WOW| 1 replywow this is hilarious i have the same sort of problem with goodlife i am now with extreme fitness btw and they are way more organzied i cant stand goodlife they dont know wat they are doing. i was with them for 1year not even and i was forced into signing up for training sessions the first day i went in to get a membership. then i signed up for more sessions with the same trainer and then they decided to let him go cause he was only able to work part time cause he was goin back to school. so they sit me up with another trainer who was not able to give me the times or days i wanted to come in. so then i dont here from anyone for 2weeks then finally another trainer calls me and i tell him i am not going to be starting these new session cause i am not happy with the way they are running there personal training i call in and cancel the guy on the phone says ok we will cancel everything then almost a year later i get a letter from some lawyer ppl saying i owe $3000 in UN-paid sessions i was like WTF i called the gym several times and head office no body would speak to me i was told that i had to sign a cancellation form but wen i called to cancel nobody told me that over the phone...i will not pay for the sessions that i never did BTW this is ridiculous i have emailed back and forth and called and nobody wants to talk all they keep saying is u owe this ya well go screw your selves cause it aint happening.. i also had to cancel my credit card cause they were taking money off without my permission and i had to change my bank information.

- Goodlife haterLong story short, Goodlife forced charges on me EVEN after I made it clear that I wanted a freeze on my account. I was jobless in the middle of my membership and they just incurred charges for the past 5 months even though I haven't stepped a toe in that sh**hole! Oh and I have worked at a collections agency... I received a call from these amateurs...in the voicemail, the collector DISCLOSED that it was regarding a membership! THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT! Not even a lawyer can just disclose that it's regarding a membership when it's "confidential" look out people! They can't say SQUAT about what you owe to if they haven't confirmed your date of birth or some sort of ID! If they do, they have broken the privacy law. The fact the lady ended the message right after she exposed the bill I owed.....tells me that it's not a law firm.
- Goodlife hater replies to WOWI know what you mean! I kept gettin sooo many NSF charges that I had to close my account and reopen another. I was jobless for a few months...and I was almost begging for them to just hold my account till I get a job to pay back. I was with the gym for a few months...had freaking 3 sessions a week an NO visible results. Heck I had better results with Extreme. I'm never stepping a toe in Goodlife ever. The fact they treat you like crap till you sign up a trainer and you STILL get treated like crap nonetheless.
- Goodlife hater replies to not easily intimidatedWow it's sad how they try to advertise themselves. Shame
- Goodlife hater replies to SherylHey, when the time I was requesting that they'd hold my account till I got my job back, they refused and said they will pause my entrance to the gym only! And STILL incur charges to my account even though I wasn't using the darn facility! At that point they doubled my monthly charges PLUS NSF fees.
- GoodLife SucksOut of the blue, I got a call from this number. The lady said it was such and such law firm. I asked her to repeat and I still couldn't figure out what she was saying. Someone mentioned they are calling from the Philippines and that seemed consistent with the accent. She said I owed GoodLife. I told her not to call again and she said she would keep calling. I then asked for her name, where she was calling from and what number she could be reached at and she hung up on me.
I had been a Goodlife member for 14 yrs. I cancelled my membership several months ago after it had been on medical hold, according to the terms that I had previously been told. The rep. I spoke to said they would be taking another payment contrary to what their previous assurances that I just needed to call and cancel and that there would be no further charges. I repeatedly requested to speak to a manager to resolve the problem and he refused. So in frustration, I advised that I would be putting a stop payment on the account as I had no intention of paying them any further money as I was unable to use their services and I was cancelling as per their instructions. Besides the money I had overpaid over the course of the membership due to increases contrary to the terms of my contract, I had paid for numerous years where I did not use their gym. The payment was only for $14 but I refused to pay on principle instead paying the money to my bank for a stop payment fee. I received one notice from GL asking for $39 ($14 + $25 nsf). I received nothing else before this rude call. It was my understanding that collections agencies must notify you in writing first before calling but according to their website, these guys claim to be a law firm and are exempt from the collections legislation. I think we all need to file complaints with the Alberta Law Society.- Caller: "Couldn't figure out the name" Law Frm

- SimonaI have pretty much the same problem. I was told that due to a special offer that they had at the time at GoodLife I can cancel my membership at any time and that there would be no charges. Yeah right. I ended up trying to cancel it because I had no money at the time, but they asked me for 200$ fee, like I had that much money. And afterwards they kept billing my bank account, which had no funds, and because of that every transaction that they made they added another 45 $ every time they tried to take out money.
Funny thing is, they didn't charge me one time a month, it was 5 times a freaking day. And when I went to talk to them, they said that it was not their fault and that before charging me they sent a letter at my house saying when the next billing is going to be (never happened).
So anyways, I suppose it doesn't matter much because Good Life is full of contracts and clauses that no one ever tells you about and all this [***] is just so you can be dragged into it. Never hand over your bank information to them. - Shelly replies to Law StudentIn respond to your post in regards to the so call Peter John Stephan, his so call lady associate call me in regards to "If any one owed me money". through my business here in Calgary that they are a law office that would take the customer to court and make them pay. Well this is what they did. I send all the paperwork to them from my company as to what my customers owed me. there were no place to send it to and so i went to the address listed on line. When I got there it was a warehouse looking place and a lady at a desk who looked after every office at the desk, she said that the so call lawyer are not there, and some times never there but he comes by some time to pick up mail and packages that people drop there for him. I taught this was very shady too shady, A few weeks later I received a call from a man who said his name was Joseph and that he received my package and that they have large companies who they are now working for and that they would not bothered with my small business now because they now have large companies that makes them big money. she was very rude and I asked him why did your company call me and set up an appointment to collect money for my company but as soon as you get some larger company that would give you their collection, all of a sudden you dump my small company collection and run for the big money. She said that he would send all my company papers back and UP TO NOW I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEM. These people are lied, and they play all kinds of games, and he is supposed to be a lawyer, the philipino lady that makes all his phone calls are very deceiving as well as the man joseph.DONT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. THEY ARE DECIEVERS AND THEY LIED.

- TammyWow!!! I have been receiving calls from this same 1-866-619-4296 # on my cell phone. I usually do NOT answer if I don't know who the caller is. I thought, this time I would answer to get who ever it is off my back and STOP calling me, thinking they had the wrong #! So I answer and I get a recording "this is an important message for "my name". Please call Peter Stephan Barristers regarding an urgent matter" I googled it because I have NO idea who I would owe money too and I came across this thread of messages!
I belonged to Gold's Gym who was recently just bought out by Good Life fitness. My last payment was taken in the middle of December by Gold's and Good Life have never attempted to take my payments from my credit card. I DID receive a call from Good Life that they needed my new credit card information as my card on file expired in April 2013...My card doesn't expire until 2014 so THEY had some incorrect information!! I can't believe they would send this to their "collection agency"!! They had NO reason to stop taking my payments off my Visa! I WILL be cancelling my membership! This is POOR, POOR, POOR customer service!!!- Caller: Peter Stephan Barristers

- LCSHey I also got this phone call. After reading these posts and doing some research. I am in Ontario and the membership agreement was based in Ontario, this lawyer is NOT licensed to practise in Ontario, according to the Study of Registration Practises Act for the Law Society of Upper Canada, a lawyer can NOT practise in Ontario without a license through the Law Society of Upper Canada, a license in which this lawyer does NOT have. Just an FYI for you.
- D>K. W replies to Law StudentAre you kidding me.....
Lawyers Don't make phone calls PERIOD. They send letters out. I just got a call to My Company and they didn't know who they were asking for. The message was something like x Company I have a client that you owe money to and the claim # is XXX , and stated that the owner, coo, president should call them back.
FIRST of all if we owed anyone money they would know who they were dealing with and 2nd like I said before it would come by letter not a phone call. Lawyers don't waste their time calling people.... they have their secretary mail letters as they have lower paid people do the work. They charge their rate and have less paid people do the work.
As far as I am concerned I am nor replying until I get some concrete information. - Don't fall for itThis is clearly a scam .
I also have a Company and when someone calls you because their client say you owe them money??
I have accounts receivable and know my aging clients, I am sure they would call us first if we were behind paying a Invoice.
2nd this is picking on the young who in most cases want to be in shape and do join fitness Companies.. What I am saying is they try and scare the young who they know don't have much life experience with with Lawyers and think it's real.
To be honest, any lawyer would charge over 300.00 per letter and for sure anyone wouldn't pay that amount to receive a lessor amount. It's a scam and this kid from a so called law school is probably the same person making you scared.
Don't be scared at all let them chase you because it cost them $$ to chase you and if it was legit you sure would know what you owe.
I just put up 2 posts and changed my name so anyone can write anything.
POSTED by a caring father......... Don't get taken , don't fall for the scam!
Have a great day.- Caller: A.S.L.
