Hi, I had signed up at Goodlife as well, and they had stated to me that I can cancell at any point in time, and you can put your account on hold as well. I have spoken to them by phone as well as, written to them in an e-mail that I had to put my account on hold, not received any notification from them. Now I am receiving phone calls from a phone number not even identifiable.

I had tried to cancel my membership ib Oct and was told they would call me back....still waiting for that call. I then recieved  bill for $140.00, so I called and again no return to my email or phone call.  Just got the call from this "layer" 2 days ago wanting $300.  I have been on the phone all day with the club and the so called cuatomer service rep. I demanded to speake to someone higher up and they finally put me to a lady who was suppose to be a manger.  They did not reslove the issue and I was willing to pay half, but they declined my offer.  I told her we could stay on the phone all day to resole the issue and she hung up on me!!!!!  Does anyone have any suggestion??????

My son cancelled his trial membership within the specified time and the Goodlife employee did not give him a receipt for it. He then got harassing phone calls and then a letter from Casey Van Moorlehem solicitor informing him he owed $265.00. We sent a letter from my lawyer informing them he would not be paying any amount.  Still, the phone calls continued and its 2 years later, now we got a call from this jerk.  Guess what we still won't be paying anything.  I tell everyone I know not to go to Goodlife, they are a horrible company.  And I don't know what these idiot lawyers really do for their living if they are representing such scum!

I am in the same boat and have been receiving calls from the collection agency.  They are not a law firm and anything "doesn't" go in Alberta.  They are not from Alberta because the law firm doesn't exist.  Good Life Fitness is a rip off organization. I joined CURVES (they are Good Life partner) and I wanted to pay my membership up front for 1 year.  They fought me and fought me and I stood firm.  Finally they said they would accept 1 year up front, but were very angry, now I know why. My daughter went on the payment plan for Good Life and now we are trying to cancel the membership and it has been a complete nightmare.  We have canceled more than once and they are playing the "I didn't receive the letter game".  What a bunch of sickos and I hope they go totally bankrupt.  My next move is to go to the Better Business Bureau and lodge a formal complaint against the scam artists.

    enough is enough
This call is from goodlife.....they are the worst....the memberships was cancelled and they are still looking for money....they should do their paper work properly....it is the only way they make money is to harass people ....I have called the Better Business Bureau....this must stop,  It is a well known fact that Health Clubs are natorious for this.  They refuse to cancell the membership no matter what letters you give them.

Isn't life hard enough that we have to fight these people too.

Terrible horrible I will never join a club ever ever again and I will tell anyone I meet to do the same and  to beware.....

The firm is legit and it's not a scam.  Probably a money-making machine.  The messages are recorded and the name and file # sound as if they are put in by a computer or voice synthesizer.  The names do not sound the same as the base message.
The calls come with irregularity - sometimes once a week; sometimes once per month. Could be an automatic dialler They have been calling for some time, and I haven't seen a letter.
This suggests that they have been given a large list of delinquent accounts and they do not have the resources to contact each one individually.
Anyway I think that the law firm works on a commission.  Some people will pay some won't.  In the end the law firm gets income with a low overhead and Goodlife gets money for a service they have had to supply.
Ever stopped to ask yourself why Goodlife has not used a reputable and well-known collection agency

I paid my fees and still get charged replies to I broke a contract, and I had to pay.
Concerning your "validation" of this number it seems odd that they would try to contact me and get a payment when I had gone in and cancelled a contract and then proceeded to pay the insulting overcharge for cancelling the said contract. I too am a student like a few others on this sight and had not the money to continue the membership, but I had paid the cancellation fee in full.

So why would this credit company call me roughly two months, maybe three months, after I had finished paying off the bill and try to get more money out of me?

Just a thought to put out there, the phone message was also all done by some robot and each time I call they do not actually answer the phone, it just goes to a mailbox asking for more information in why I am calling.

Insulting Canadian individuals is going a little far, I know a few people who have been screwed over by these people while they WERE making their payments on time, suddenly this random "missed" payments and even after showing a bank statement and receipts the charge was not dropped.

What is driving me a little crazy is that they are calling my cell phone number (which I have had for over 2.5 years). When I pick up, it is a recording. They are looking for someone named Ashley and want her to call them at the phone number and quote a file number. I am not Ashley and I don't know Ashley. I tried to called the number right away and it went to a voice mail. I just want them to stop calling me.

For all involved with this "said" law firm....
Peter J. Stephan, P.C. is not a lawyer, nor is "he" licensed under the Law Society of Alberta.
I called with GoodLife H.O. and spoke with Stephanie. She said that she was told they were the solicitors.  I informed her that a Collections Agency does solicit, but is not with the Law Society of Alberta and to please not mislead people to the contrary.  I used to work for a law firm years ago and informed her that it is a "no-no" to send out this information claiming to be a lawyer from an actual firm.
I am not going to get my law firm involved but to caution her that such claims will tarnish GoodLife's reputation.  Call it what it is.... a collection agency.

Note:   before people pay this collections agency, ensure that GoodLife's paperwork is correct as it was not in my case.  Stephanie fixed it right on the spot and gave me a ref# should this "lawyer" call.

I had signed up for what i was led to believe to be a "free trial".
    They wanted bank info ect..
Now i honestly never really paid any attention to my bank account as i had regular funding from my job.
But after I quit my job I had noticed all these membership charges so I had my account closed.
Later on now I have this number calling me randomly throughout the day saying the same lines everyone else is reporting. One of these days I'm going to get fed up with this and come after them with a law suit. Both goodlife and this "fim" for unlawful business practices, false advertising and harassment. I will be recording the phone call(s) and use this as evidence. Besides, if i take them to court, they'll likely not show up and I will have the amount owed dropped. And if they do show, I hope I show the judge just how dirty these companies are.
