- I cancelled after fulfillmentI got a messaged today from these idiots also...I fulfilled my year contract as of May 2009. In September 2009, I cancelled my membership as my husband purchased a home gym and what a hassel that was, they wanted me to keep my membership. They kept taking payments for 2 months after I cancelled. Then I cancelled these payments through my bank. Once I cancelled the direct withdrawls, I started receiving bills from GoodLife that I owe them $10.50. I just ripped them up and through them out.
What a joke! Give up...your not getting a dime from me Stephen Barristers!- Caller: stephen Barristers

- CujoKeep getting calls from 1866-619-4296 atleast 3x's a day. I cancelled my membership with GL 45days after cause of their poor service and having being lied to about my membership but only found this out after words. I was advised upon signing up that I had 30days trial however had to pre-pay $62.00 so paid it upon signing up. I was told I could cancel anytime during that time and it would be "straight cancel no fee" in fact they would refund my "prepaid" fee and keep 1 months fee as service...odd I thought. Weeks afer my cancellation I was called by a GL rep and told they needed to re-confirm my banking info to refund the fee back and only to my surprise they used it to try and debit instead cause upon signing I never did provide by banking info since it was trial period. Later I received a notice of past due arrears and when I questioned my refund they advised I defaulted my contract! Yet again they tried to debit and I had my bank reject the payment. Again receiving another arrears notice. 4months later and many messages to GL rep to advise what they are doing - was no call backs. Finally now getting call from a rep claiming early termination fee and service fee totaling $357 i was threatened i would be sued due to breach of contract or failor to pay. Working for a large Billion dollar corp i tried to educate the collector on collection and contract law and asked she provide their firms officers name or license and immediately she apologised and hungup. however still the calls continue even while GL is the one that messed up and should be sued for damages and un-professional record management or customer service.
Best way to deal with this now is to report the firm to the BAR Association on it's lawyers practises if they really are lawyers they would be nailed.- Caller: Peter Stephen Barristers and Solicitors
- Mad DadI have the same story as most of you. We live in Ontario and cancelled the membership for my 18 yr old son. He was 17 when we signed him up for a 1 yr membership. They did not explain the cancellation policy so when the year was up I assumed the membership was finished. We will not pay no matter what!! I am going to the BBB and I am the VP of a large company who WAS offering our employees a membership at GL. No more!! 350 employees who will not join GL!! I will also share my story (and yours) with as many companies or people who will listen.

- unbelievable| 1 replyI also got a very unprofessional call from this lawyer's office. When I asked her to spell the name she was saying she hung up. Obviously not a real law office. From reading the other comments I realize I also canceled my GoodLife membership. Something needs to be done about Goodlife's practice of harassing people when they legitimately cancel their membership.

- UnbelievableI had also received a call from Peter and Stephan Barristors. Naturally I totally freaked out on why a law office would have called me. They had left a very vague message on my answering machine and after reading this forum I knew it was from Goodlife. I had to change account numbers and forgot to notify Goodlife and therefore have not been making the payments. Not once has this company notified me of missing payments and all of a sudden a "law" office is calling me. This is totally unbelievable they should have at least called me in regards to the payment.
- Ripped-offOur family joined a GoodLife gym with a "no cancellation" cost option. This was 5 memberships. My wife and I also signed for a personal trainer course. This was paid by Visa and the memberships were to be taken by prepaid autorization from our checking account. Before the month was up the gym had closed and we were told our memberships had been transfered to an EnergieCardio gym at another location. This gym was smaller and had fewer facitlities (no squash courts). We continued of PT course but were then told that our Goodlife mebership was no good as they had left Quebec and we would have to join EnergieCardio. At that point we dropped out altogether and called Goodlife to cancel our memberships. We recently started getting calls from Peter Stephens Barrister with call back numbers that don't work.
Don't know where this is going but it certianly looks like a case of the intimidation mentioned here.- Caller: Peter Stephens

- LondonLast year my son and his friend went to Goodlife Fitness in London Ontario for their 7 day trial offer. Both boys never signed a contract but did give their home information. I have received many calls from Peter Steffan Barristers & Solicitors saying they want my son to pay and give an account # of 537774. We should contact a lawyer and start a class action suit against this collection agency and for a shoddy practice by Goodlife Fitness. Tell you friends not to go near these guys.

- speechlessI got a call and the person said they are situated in Ontario. So i asked why were my payments going to Calgary and she couldn't give a definite answer... i'm a single mother of 4 and paying for post secondary education out of my own pockets. these posts have got me second guessing myself on whether or not i should continue making payments. i would be devastated to find out later this was a scam... no matter how legit they may appear.
I now rather be taken to small claims. at least then, i'll be at ease. - luckyIm getting really sick and tired of fricken Good Life...... a friend and i won a free trial.. at the gym so we signed up... I asked if there was any strings attached in cancelling I was told know all i have to do is call in... Cool right? When i got home i started reading the small print and came across the cancel within ten days of the agreement or pay 100$ well i called the same day and was told yepp everything is taking care of you have nothing to worry about......... now i got Peter Barristers calling me............ this happened over a year ago now... i refuse to pay them.... they tried telling me i owe the the last six months for my membership when i didnt even use the damn thing i walked around and looked at everything with my friend... (she hasnt been harrassed once and she never called in) which pisses me off as well

- Just GreatI keep getting phonecalls from this number with no message. I phoned back this afternoon and got "Peter Stephan Barristers & Solicitors, Karen speaking, how can I help you"?
"WHY ARE YOU CONSTANTLY PHONING MY NUMBER AND HANGING UP OR LEAVING NO MESSAGE"? !!!!!!!!
"It must be the connection."
"WHAT? STOP PHONING ME! HERE'S MY PHONE NUMBER STOP DOING IT!
I'll check the file. John Doe?
"NO. THAT'S THE DEADBEAT BOARDER I EVICTED 5 WEEKS AGO. THAT'S MY PHONE NUMBER NOT HIS. "
"I'll update the file."
Just great. If these people keep phoning me, I'm phoning them daily. It's toll-free. And yes, I get the deadbeats mail from Goodlife Fitness.- Caller: Peter Stephan Barristers & Solicitors
- kraemerI have been harrassed by them for the last 8 months. I have asked many times for them to send me a statement outlining what I owe. I have a statement that says I owe $150 - I paid it. They continue to insist that I owe $50 more, but cannot tell me what for. They cannot send me a statement, they say I have to call Goodlife and get them to send me a statement showing what I owe. I refuse to call Goodlife to ask for an invoice for something I don't owe them money for.
I will be sending this crap of a so called law firm a letter insisting they quit harrasing me, with the details of the information I have. If they contact me again, I'll be filing a complain with the Upper Law Society.
I think I'll call Sheila Caringal back at the law firm, 1-866-619-4296, tell her that I am calling on behalf of Bell Canada, and insist she owes them money. Too bad I can't send her anything to back that up - she'll have to call Bell to ask them to send her a bill.- Caller: Peter Stephan Barristers

- SSB replies to PETER STEPHANPeter,
For a "lawyer", you sure don't get the English language. Use of "giving" over "given"??
Who is the recipiant and whom is the giver? - uh-ohthese guys keep calling me. and I know why. I owe them money but here's the whole story.
I got on with the membership gave them all my info on banking and stuff then 4 months later they tell me I owe them $350.
I guess they got some of my account numbers wrong but why did they wait 4 months to tell me all this? should I complain? Argue with them so i don't end up paying for the full amount? or none at all?- Caller: goodlife
