- Shelly| 2 repliesDo you owe the debt? If yes, did you enjoy what you purchased on credit? Do you feel an obligation to pay it? Can you pay it? If you can and you do not pay-is it stealing? If you could pay at the time of purchase and now you cannot make the normal payments, can you make arrangements to make payments? If you cannot pay well you cannot pay but keep it in the back of your mind because you still owe it and if you have the strength of character, some day you will be able to pay it.
Debt collection is a necessary part of our economy. How can creditors loan you money if there is no way of collecting. Thank goodness a majority of people pay their debts or no one would loan out you money.
Try living on all cash and ask yourself if credit is necessary. Are you really angry at the debt collector or you just angry because you are in collections?
Point being do you personally feel an obligation to pay your debts? YES OR NO- Caller: none
- CowBoy replies to k.wIf you knew the LAW on Collections from Collection Agencies, you would NOT have said "if they are calling to collect then they have a legitimate reason to. A very very high percentage of ALL Collection Agencies try to HIDE the fact that they use ILLEGAL tactics, such as HARASSMENT! I have WON 2 Lawsuits over the past 4 years. Most all the time, the people that receive these harassing phone calls are NOT the person they are asking for. And in most cases, HARASSMENT occurs when they repeatedly call multiple times a day and often consecutive days in a row harassing the WRONG person. Collection Agencies usually buy Collections in BULK from Merchants as old as 7 years. In most cases these Collection Agencies have false information and cannot provide the ORIGINAL closing invoice of the Debt owed, which is the LAW!
- Myrddin replies to k.wWithout a trial when the accused is afforded due process of law and convicted beyond a reasonable doubt they have a right to maintain their innocence. One citizen has as much right as another to each other's personal information such as complete name, address, phone number, financial history, family relations, friends, neighbors and any potentionally slanderous allegations that they let others here. Anonymous allegations with no proof made on over 40 unsolicited and recorded i calls by individuals who will not file suite is not a solid legal and moral way to settle disputes. Ruining an individual's right to buy, sell, and trade with no proof by ruining there credit is not in the Constitution of the United States of America, although I do remember reading about these practices. Turn about is fair play. Let us identify these hypocrite and introduce them to poetic justice.

- cricket replies to Educated Consumeryou know so much bout collection agencies if you told them once to stop calling because of what ever and their still calling its simple they dont care that your polite you must right a letter to request they stop the phone calls/ harrassment. dont act like you pay all your bills you billy goat lets see how it go when you turn up on their collection list and start calling you being disrespectful and rude. write the letter ms perfect with your perfectly polite ass.
- Brandon replies to k.wIf you have absolutely no affiliations with them and they repeatedly call you, then YES IT IS illegal harrassment and those types of companies have found loopholes within the legal system to be able to operate the way they do. Not all companies are like that, but many are.
- Brandon replies to TruthIt's not a government issue. The people who work behind the computer, as well as the administrators, that are responcible for the exchange of ALL information. In short it's just carelessness on part of the individual workers. If you don't care about your job that involves everyday people and there personal information, don't expect customers, or victims in some cases, to trust you.
- Brandon replies to k.wThat's not a good enough reason to not leave a message. You can still be a human being and leave a short message on voicemail/answering machine without mentioning any personal information.
- Brandon replies to TimIf a debt has been "charged off" for twenty years then it is no longer a valid debt. It seems that you do have some common sense but at the same time you are blind sided by your high horse. People can be ignorant at times and dig themselves into a hole by there own means, but the modern infrastructure of human civilization is a two way street with multiple intersections. One lane being people who pay their bills and people who don't. The other lane being the people who work the jobs that take care of the bill payments. Just like on roads accidents do happen whther it be a force of God or just carelessness Both sides have very ignorant people and the situation can become worse when one has legal power and authority added to their demeanor. You need to understand that bad things do happen that can cause a debt to be created and you need to be wise enough to know the difference between moral respect and policy. Knowing the difference will help in making decisions
- Brandon replies to ShellyAre you assuming that people who have no debt, nor ever had any, don't get calls from debt collectors?
Did you know that Star Recovery is a "small business" that has beeb taken to FEDERAL COURT more than a dozen times within the past few years for cases involving harrassment and fraud? - ztIt's strange, they leave a message at least once a week but my phone is not showing a missed call. What's up with that?

- Lydia replies to ShellyIN RESPONSE TO SHELLY,
I was never in debt until I incurred substantial medical bills (and yes, I had medical insurance, but I still went into debt to the point where I may need to file bankruptcy and medical insurance does not cover "hospital fees") and then was laid off. Before that, I never had a credit card (still don't) or a car loan. You make assumptions about people being in debt, that we just are happily buying whatever we want and then ignoring the debt. That is not the case. I work very hard, shop used when I can, and use coupons. I rarely eat out and my idea of eating out and splurging is fast food and a dollar movie. My friend cuts and colors my hair, in exchange for babysitting. You have to be in some of our shoes to understand how degrading and humiliating it is to be in debt sometimes, how these debt collectors make us feel. You know there are times when they call and it's for a debt that was paid off and I have to jump through hoops to get them to stop calling? You have no idea.
I received a call from these people. It was an automated system and I waited on the phone but never got a human voice, so I hung up. I am trying to clean up my credit and have done so the past few months. I checked my credit report recently and they are not listed, so I am not sure why they are calling. I only have two major bills left, and should have those paid off in six months. - RJ replies to k.wInteresting you read and see what you want , most complaints are not saying hay I owe you and don't want to pay, there saying I am not the person your looking for, I don't owe you any money and I have tried to tell you this but you wont listen. After you receive many calls it becomes harassment and that is Illegal if your with the company you might start looking at pages like this and helping them fix the problem then you wont see complaints. Now lets see if you can help or your just here to make something that is a problem keep being a problem or your here to help.
