I work for med rev service. That is our toll free number. Some of your comments bewilder me. We only contact people who owe or owed medical bills. We ask you to verify yourselves, despite knowing we have the right person, because we have to. Under HIPPA, we need to make sure the guarantor verify themselves on the recorded line, to protect our job. If we call you on one number and you call in from a different number, your file doesn't pop up. At this point we need the number we called, your name or your social security number, it the account number registered to your debt to the hospital. I hope this helped

    Tip
Had a missed call from this number and returned it. I gave the rep my number and he stated he was trying to reach the parent of a child with the same last name as mine. I told the rep that was my last name but that was not my child. The rep had the nerve to say it's a coincidence that you have the same last name as the person we are trying to reach. OK, so now my stupid idiot alert meter is going off in my mind. I snapped and told the rep first of all the last name is my married name not my maiden name and I get phone calls from numbers everyday looking for some one other than me. And furthermore this is a government issued phone that costs me nothing so I would imagine this number was someone else's before it was mine. And the most important thing is I told you from the beginning that was not my child's name. When I finished talking he could not say a word and said i'm sorry, thank you and hung up. I don't know who medical revenue company is but they have stupid people working for them. And he was about to try and get jazzy with me b/c I had the same last name. Not today and not any other day and he lucky there is not an office I can walk into b/c I don't play about how anyone treats me. I fear no man or no woman and I will be respected just like I respect everyone else. There really should be something you could do for piss poor companies like this. They also sound like a group of telemarketers sitting in a room together making calls. You can hear several people talking when the call is first answered. If they call me again they are getting the business off the rip. Wasting my free minutes that I need should be against the law. SMH......

I ignored the call as it was an unknown number. The voicemail that was left on my phone made it sound like I was placing an outgoing call. It rang several times and then a woman answered saying Hello, hello? Helloooooooo. And then hanging up.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

saraelizabeth -  I'm sorry for your loss.  As for the bill, I don't believe you have any legal obligation to pay for your fathers bills. After 7 years they should just write off. I also believe that if they do collect they get commission on it.
I believe in Karma too! RIP Dad.

asked for someone who doesn't work here, left a message saying they are calling from "M.R.S." and it's regarding a personal business matter. I suspect a scam.

Okay so how weird is this!? I was cleaning out my voicemail and found this in my “blocked” mailbox.  I listened to it and it was literally like a old school party line.  I could hear a third phone ringing as if they had dialed out another number while they were still connected to my voicemail and then a lady answered frustratingly saying “hello hello”.... Totall fishy!!!!  Makes you wonder about the confidentiality of all this private information they claim to have about you.  I’ve never had this happen and just thought it was strange.  Definitely block so you don’t answer.

Wendy, it's nice that you replied BUT why are you trolling the web responding to comments/complaints about "your employer".  I won't go so far to say all companies do this BUT several medical collection companies take their collection practices to the extreme.  If you are going to go so far as to call a number, don't call multiple times and not leave a message.  Even if there is a generic message, you can leave a message that does not violate HIPPA.  JS

    BigA replies to healthcare worker
Collection activity does not come under HIPAA even if it is medical debt.  HIPAA covers the release of actual medical information to a third party.  As a "healthcare worker", you should know that.  I also find it interesting that your read all the posts to get to that one, but failed to read the post that actually gave you the information you need to stop the calls.

Got several calls. All that came through was my name. Nothing else. Called back with no answer except a voice mail message. No returned call. I know it's a scam.
