- VeroI just happened to be online on my credit card and saw the $59.95 charge. I'm furious! I never signed up for this. I went back and did a dummy race registration form just to see where this "box" was that I supposedly checked for the membership. I don't see it ANYWHERE. I'm filing a complaint with the state. I'm also going back and rechecking old credit card statements to see if I've been charged in previous years.
What makes me really mad is after I signed up for the Camp Pendleton Mudrun, I promptly received an email receipt for the sign up fee. But this new fee is sneaked on to your account and you don't get an email warning you about it.- Caller: active.com
- reks131 replies to Scott Irwin| 5 repliesIt is not a scam as previously mentioned... Just be careful when you sign up for things online. Almost every company that allows for online signups tries to sell things thru checkboxes. You just have to make sure they aren't clicked.
- reks131 replies to lovelyExcept that they aren't scam artists. They just realize that many people sign up for thier legitamite product and don't see the check boxes offering other deals. All online businesses use this method for selling additional products
- CarrieI just called and they removed it no problems but VERY SNEAKY!!!

- celu49My husband & I both registered for a race, but I must have caught the little box at the bottom, bc only my husband was charged for the membership. As stated above, great customer service. No one hassled me to stay. Very quick & simple. Goes to show that you need to read everything before yo click "ok" at the bottom of an internet page.
- Mad1I found this charge and did a phone number search that matched the charge to the community center where I had taken my my daughter to a daddy/daughter dance. Called to dispute the charge and they are refunding the money.
Everyone on here seems happy that they are refunding the money easily. I am not happy at all. I should not have to waste time dealing with these people. If someone stole your wallet at the grocery store then when the police knocked on their door they said "I'm sorry, that must have been a mistake" and gave it back wouldn't you still press charges? Ask Lindsey Lohan how if that excuse works.
I am tired of these companies that do this stuff. I'm filing a complaint with my Attorney General and the BBB. A few years ago Attorney General's across several states got together and put several of these companies out of business. Maybe it is time they do this again.
When I called the 800 number they listed several businesses that I can receive discounts with by being a member. I wrote those businesses down and will ensure they do not receive my business in the future. A company that knowingly does business with a fraudulent company doesn't deserve my money! - MbI just saw a $170 charge on my credit card and freaked out. Turned out that it is the registration fee for my son to play Parks and Recs lacrosse in my county. Apparently the county uses ACT for billing. If you have a fee appear it could be something like this for you, too! Glad I called and checked.
- SteveI signed up for a half marathon in Boston (which I paid for on my card) now I see a separate charge for $59.95 from active.com. Not sure how they can automatically charge my card for a registration (club?) that I didn't even know about or authorize. Office opens M-F 10-8pm EST (877-228-4881). Will call to complain. How is this no illegal?
- BrendanSame thing with me. $59.95. I registered for a 10K last April and 9 months later this charge appears
- hgk replies to disgruntledThank you! I just copied the comments and e-mailed them to active.com. let's see whass up.
- ACF replies to reks131I was charged by this and never registered for any sporting event since 2006; so to say this is not a scam is ignorant
- ItWasntABigDealAfter reading this forum, I remembered what the ACTIVE membership was for. I gave the number on my statement a call. I got someone very quickly, she was very polite, I was very polite, and everything was handled in less than 5 minutes. They cancel your membership and refund you in 3-5 days. Things happen, it's best not to overreact....its just a good reminder to always check your credit card bills.
- Matt WebberSame here. I missed a phone call from this number and then recently saw that my credit card was dinged with a $59.95 charge from Active.com, whom I never had a membership with prior. I just received their emails after I signed up for a run through X-Dog events here in Oregon.
I just emailed American Express to refute the charges, emailed Active.com to refute the charges, amde sure to email the consumer advocates at the Oregon AG office.- Caller: Active.com
- Florida Resident replies to LaurenSame thing just happened to me. I filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General about this. I encourage y'all to file complaints with your state Attorneys General, as well. These guys need to be investigated.
- michael replies to Suzy| 3 repliesIt's not a membership fee, it was the fee charged to register. Active.com is one site that these organizations use to collect entry fees
- DisgruntledI also got hit with a $59.95 charge and am getting a refund.
I am a frequent online user and shopper and something like this has never happened to me. I am always extremely careful to not sign up for any trial memberships when companies already have my payment information for another item or service.
They are choosing to hide this information and should not be allowed to do so. Call right away if you see this charge.- Caller: 877-228-4881
- BHAWe just found the $59.95 on our Credit Card account also. My wife assures me that she didn't sign up for anything. They must be getting rich on this scam.. No wonder they gladly refund the money when caught. Most people don't check their credit card statements, and any charge over 60 day old can't be disputed.
- AVLJust found that lovely little charge on our bank statement this morning. Of course it was too early to call at that point, but I just got off the phone and our refund should be on its way to our account.
This whole business is so skeevy that it aggravates me. Lets just say he won't be allowed to run any more races if this is going to happen each time. He NEVER reads the fine print...even though the woman on the phone assured me that it was a "big green YES" to activate the membership. - anonymous.Same here - Called the number and they refunded it easily.
- arI thought I got a double charge on my statement when I looked at it this morning. I registered for a half marathon and saw that charge appear, which I was fine with, but two days later, here comes another charge from Active.com. I'm going to call today and get this taken care of, but of course it's too early to call right now. I'm glad it sounds like they refund your money with no problem, but I think it's total BS that this happened in the first place. I was just looking to sign up for my race, not a membership to their site.
