- RandyAlso had charges, and called CIBC to inquires, I believe they are aware and put me to directly to the company. Like some people here they said I applied in 2003, seems a little convenient, and since I have photographic memory, they were flat out lying. I simply asked them to cancel, and the fellow knew right away to reverse the charges.
It is borderline scam, they say that they wire you money if your stranded, or send you passport. This does not makes sense to me as I have no valid passport, expired 15 years ago and have not traveled abroad since 1988, so does not make sense about their service. When I asked them how it was possible to send me a backup passport, I got no answer. Truly ask your bank about this service, they are supplying info about your card and personal info. - marionHi everybody,
Like everybody here I had my MC charged for 78.98 $ in October, by the same company(Card Registry Service, never signed-up with them). I called my bank, they explained who is this company and what they are doing, and told me to call them directly. I did this this morning and the guy over there told me that I had personnally signed a paper that authorize them to charge my card, on 5th October 2009, which is a lie. I would remember this, don't you think, is not even a month...Jesus..
Anyway, he is suposed to sent me this paper next week (to prove their point)and if I find that is not my signature on it, I must call back to have a refund and to cancel the service.
After reading all your messages I think this is a big fraud. Hope my bank is not part of this, because I really love them (National Bank).

Apparently there's an automatic registration with certain cards for every bank? Google "CardAssist" and it'll come up for several banks in Canada.

However, I just had a charge go through my bank account for $31.49 which I think is associated with a fraudulent Western Union cash advance we just had on our Visa which is automatically enrolled in this program. Looking into it being reversed.- Caller: CardAssist
- PatI received a National Bank Mastercard bill that was charged $73.45. The funny thing is that I cancelled the credit card six months ago. I'm getting to the bottom of this!
- me tooI also found a charge for 26.20 on my CIBC VISA bill in November. I am quite sure I have been charged this every three months or so for a few years and I have never really understood this charge but trusted the bank and never checked into it before. I am trying to have it reversed - if not, I will cancel my three cards with CIBC. I am also trying to have monthly "reverse billing" charges from another company removed right now ("Privacy protection" - which is REALLY a scam!) so I am sick and tired of all these charges that are unauthorized and "reversed billed" for credit cards!I am wondering what they do with all this money - as if they don't rip us off enough with the incredible rates of interest they charge on credit cards!!

- DeeI got a bill on my card for 73.45!!! From this phone number. I called to get a refund and was told about 3 times how I was no longer protected from fraud on all my cards and identification!! WHAT IDENTIFICATION??? I was not going to ask. Just give me my money back. My fraud protection was immediately removed but my refund will take 5 to 7 working days!

- DeeI called Bank of Montreal about this and was told it is a legitimate company called Carlson Marketing. Bank of Montreal has a contract with them. No wonder they had my card number. The bank person asked me if I inquired how they got my card number and then told me who they are. Sounds like MY money is going from one pocket to another on someone else's jeans!

- DB replies to GET a REFUND!!!My charge was a direct debit from my bank account entered as: CARDREG 888-454-6364. I did a google search for the number which led me here. After a little read through these posts I called the 1-888-454-6364 and asked where I would have signed up for this service. They explained it to me and then I asked to be removed from the service. After several attempts to get me to stay with their 'protection' service they finally agreed to cancel it and refund the money. Took 2 minutes.

- sara replies to ticked| 1 replyexcuse but thats not true. the bank gives NO personal information out by law. do your homework..
- Anonym replies to ticked| 1 replyIts not the bank giving out your info, its HBC or Zellars whichever you want to call them. If you have a card through them, they are giving your info and Carlson is billing people either on their HBC card or your HBC Mastercard. I have been fighting with HBC over this for months and they refuse to fix this, they told me, I have to call Carlson myself and have this fixed. My problem with this is that, HBC is billing me and are claiming its not them, I told them they are full of [***], they are Carlson or they are getting a kickback from them for this scam, they didnt have an answer for that. I told them, I refuse to call anyone else because obviously someone at HBC approved the money to be charged to my HBC account. It does make you wonder how many older people and people that just dont look at their bill closely are getting ripped off by them. I will never buy from HBC again and I chopped up all my cards and sent them back.
- Anonym| 1 replyHi everyone, just wanted to tell my story on this scam. I was called on a Saturday by a telemarketer wanting me to subscribe for an isurance, they identified themself as being from HBC (Zellars) and told me the insurance was free for 3 months and then I could cancel, I told her I didnt want it but she wouldnt take no for an answer, she got to the point where she had to get her supervisor to confirm the sale, when she went for her supervisor, I hung up. NO CONFIRMATION, NO SALE, Wrong, I didnt have a balance on my HBC card and a few months later I got a statement for 26 dollars in change, not knowing what this was for and having just recieved an HBC Mastercard, I assumed it was a one time fee for the new mastercard, so I paid it. Awhile after that, I got the bill again for the same amount, I called and was told that I had purchased insurance from Carlson and the HBC had nothing to do with it. I told them, I am not paying this and since I never authorized this to be charged to my HBC card, someone there better take care of this, that was last summer and im still getting bills from HBC for this. I cut up my cards and sent them back, have written them at least three times and have made numerous phone calls, HBC still refuses to fix this problem by saying that, its not HBC and Carlson sends these bills through HBC (she called it piggybacking their bill through them). I told her im not paying and im not calling anyone else when HBC is sending the bills and must have approved the amount to be charged to my account. They told me HBC sells merchandise, not insurance and I told her [***], your telling me you guys dont get money from Carlson, she didnt have an answer. Its a scam and it should be illegal, im considering legal action against HBC for this. It makes you wonder how many older people or people with a balance that dont really look closely at their statements are being scammed as well. Thats my story, sorry it was so long, but its still going on with me and I just wanted people to know my story.

- Anonym replies to saraAcually I posted that its not the bank giving out your personal information in a post earlier but I was wrong, it is a group thing, between the banks, credit card companies and any large store with its own credit card. Let me guess- you work for a bank.
- Anonym replies to Card assist service representativeYou are so full of [***], I never gave anyone my credit card number. I did recieve a phone call and told them NO, im sure im going to tell them my card number, IDIOT. I was told by HBC that Carlson pggybacks their bill through HBC and I did notice the charge. You mention that people don't look at their statements, and that may be true, But people should'nt have to look for something that they didn't purchase, and older people would'nt even know what the charge is. You are a special person, blaming the public for getting scammed, there should be a job in politics for you. Whats next, go to the grocery store and have the manager sneak a bunch or stuff into your cart, and then its your fault and up to you to bring the stuff back, get real.

It’s a fraud; this company gets the right to declare your credit cart stole or make a change of addressee for you...
So they can call you credit card companies, tell them you move out and after that call back to make your card stole and have a new one send at an addressee you don't know about...
I Never subscribe to That and mastercard don't wan't to help, can't have confidence in any bank now!!! - Luc Gadbois replies to Eric LeblancBonsoir Éric..
Est-ce que vous avez réussi à stopper ces prélèvements...? Si oui, il faut faire quoi?
moi, je viens de me rendre compte que j'ai eu 2 prélèvements dans le même mois sur mon compte Mastercard CitiBank...
Luc - bob replies to michaelme charged too at $33.24 last month, This is a fraud of credit card. report to policeman quickly.
- Robert PhillipsAnd the crap continues with this. I went to make a payment on my RBC Visa credit card and saw this lovely transaction there:
22 Jun 2010 CARD REGISTRY SERVICE1 8884546364 ON 80.39
Needless to say, I have contacted RBC to have this transaction reversed. Good thing I found this site to air out my beef about this.
It does make you wonder why the government or the branch responsible for this kind of thing doesn't shut this scam down. - BobzeeAGBI just found out that the Card Registry Service (CRS) charged my CIBS visa for $67.61 … June 1, 2010. I called CIBC and was told by a number of representatives that I have to call the CRS directly about the disputed charge. When I called the CRS, they asked for all kinds of personal info, which appeared totally insane. Basically, CIBC is asking me to volunteer my personal info so that this so called legit company can extract some additional moneys from me under another false pretense. I should mention that I never signed for any of the services from the CRS, in fact, I never heard of this company before.
So, what is going on here? CIBC told me that they severed the ties with the CRS three, or one year ago; depending whom you speak to at CIBC. According to CIBC, the CIBC offered the so called CRS services for our protection such as replacement of our VISA card, getting a new driver’s license, or better yet, a passport in case you lost it, or say all of those documents were stolen. This stuff of course happens but, just imagine, the US based company is getting a replacement for my lost passport. None of this makes any sense, and I don’t know who in the right mind would ever sign up for such a service on top of what one already pays to have Aero Gold VISA?
After a several conversations with CIBC, I have cancelled the card today, while CIBC promised to investigate the CRS charges. Interestingly, CIBC never explained to me how this company, CRS, obtain my VISA number. This appears to be the real issue here, and it is painfully obvious that CIBC provided this data to CRS. This is also a reason why CIBC wants me to provide my confidential data to CRS so, that the CIBC is not directly involved, and ultimately responsible. Since I never authorized the CRS charges, the charge against my VISA is plain and simple fraud.
I don’t know what other people on this web site have ultimately done, or plan to do but, I will contact the ombudsman office, and submit an official complaint against CIBC, and CRS. Also, I do intend to pay my outstanding VISA balance but, I will not pay the $ 67.61. - Annoying, but no big deal| 1 replyI think it is ludicrous that a company can 'automatically' resubscribe you for something you agreed to three years ago, but that's what happened to me. Luckily when I called I talked to a very nice man who apologized for the inconvenience (after the obligatory explanation of services) and reimbursed me for the money. Annoying, but no harm done.
