Called and left me a message at working saying I had a bounced check.  Wrong.  I hardly ever write checks and I have never bounced one.

He is going to render a "verdict"?  I am pretty sure only a Judge could do that, not some scummy criminal pretending to be a debt collector.

I just got the same call. I dont even have checks or a bank. They also called my job. What can I do to keep myself safe

I had this same message on my cell phone.  I love how he doesn't give his name or even states what the debt is.  He will not be receiving a phone call back from me.

Said there is a court case against me and if I reply he will drop the charges

Got a call from John King at structured settlement saying they had finished auditing my file due to a bounced check and payments.  I don't write many checks and have not received any notification from my bank about a bounced check.  Has scam written all over it

Claimed I had a conversation with a previous rep. Nice try, but I never ever answer calls if they’re not from fiends or family. Obviously conman.

I have defaulted on small payday loan due to husband abandoning family financially. He’s a lawyer btw. I’m trying to keep my kids and me afloat. This company “structured settlement” calls and threatens to prosecute me for writing bad checks since i provided banking info when i applied for the loan. They say my case is being escalated now for check fraud in florida. I told them my situation and offered to pay $20 at a time but they r rude and aggressive and refused that.

Do not pay anything.  This is not check fraud as it has been determined by both the courts and the FTC that when you give a postdated check to a payday loan place they accept it knowing that it is no good.  That makes it a promissory note.  Further, you need to make them follow the letter of the law.  It doesn't matter what your "situation" is.  When crooks like this come knocking they don't leave with any rewards for their extortion attempts.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

Exact same message, he didn’t even say my name and you can tell it’s all scripted the way he was talking.

i have been getting calls from our area code, but from all over the state (we have the same area code everywhere). it is the same call about a "structured settlement" place, and that i spoke to someone at their department and he wants to speak to me before rendering his "recommendations". This is a scam! I dont have debts and i dont answer numbers i dont recognize, let alone call back. I have not spoken to anyone in "his department",  He showed his hand!! SCAM!!!!!!

Call came in from 719-347-6561, then was told to call 888-585-2112 regarding red flagging my account due to a call received from me.  Never heard of these people so I surely never call anyone I don't know.  Re; other messages on this site, Never been over drafted at any bank in a very long life time SO SHOW ME THE MONEY AND BANK INFORMATION since have no record of overdrafts EVER.

They called my job yesterday, and asked for a fax number. I gave it to them, and they faxed over a employment verification. They don't ever leave a voicemail if they call my phone.

Received a call about from terry on structured settlement.   Don’t have any overdraft from any bank.   Obvious scam

Dennis Gary (from Stuctured Settlements) left me a couple voicemails.
Supposed file marked as "refuse to resolve" for a returned check from Wells Fargo- I DON'T EVEN BANK WITH W.F.?! Threatening to render a decision by 4pm... that he's working on a Saturday with an "auditor" and if not resolved they'd check on "open lines of credit, bank accounts, etc."
Both messages state he has the same 4pm deadline before rendering a decision.
Stated that he wants me to call them to discuss and that he won't get his feelings hurt by anything I say... that this "MAY OR MAY NOT EVEN BE AN ACCOUNT THAT'S ASSOCIATED TO (ME)".

I'm a former collections manager- so I know a violation when I hear one. Lots of violations here...
No FOTI messages to make sure I was the ONLY intended recipient of his message before disclosure.
Use of threatening language; 3rd party collectors can't speak on behalf of their clients as it pertains to their intentions, much less that he'll recommend that they check on my open bank accounts.
Since he went ahead and disclosed- he never clearly identified who the client actually is.
Clearly they have no voicemail script or he went off script. Scripts mitigate potential collector violations.
I always instructed my collectors to leave AS LITTLE personal information on voicemails as possible to avoid violations; "Foti message, state who you're trying to contact, leave a reference number, leave our contact information, close with Mini Miranda." THAT'S IT!

Gonna wait for one more voicemail (possibly more violations) before reaching out for legal counsel...

Got a call from samantha from structured settlement about a automatic withdrawl and needs to verify my information that i authorized it and that it an attempt to collect a debt

This is the 4th number I've blocked from calling my phone and leaving the same message. It's obviously a scam. My name is never mentioned, and they don't say any of my personal information that a real debt collector would know. Very number that's left a message says to call the same number 8885852112. If I ever answer the call, it's silent. No one is on the other end. The calls are meant to hang up quickly so that a message can be left. Don't fall for it. Dont call the number.
