Numerous automated recordings, selling some product for seniors.

Just received another call from this number trying to "give" me a free medical alert system but needed my credit card number for the "service".  She insisted on calling me "Sir" - I am a female - and when I called her an idiot and hung up on her, she called me back from 407-932-1234 wanting to know why I did not want their "free" system.

Actually the worse thing you can do for robocalls and scammers is answer the phone as soon as it rings. Then ask a lot of questions. If they ask to verify anything like address, phone number, social security number or anything else on a robo-call, enter any information except the truth. Generally, they know the answer to the questions they ask and when you give them false info, the call is transferred to a living person.
If a living person asks more questions or tries to sell you something, express some interest.
The objective is to keep them on line and on their nickel for as long as possible. I was in business for decades. Businesses pay for every minute on the calls they make. The calls made from my office cost a dime a minute and that was a long time ago. So the longer you can keep a scammer on line, the more the pay their phone company. If enough people do that, they lose money and go broke. If they call from cell phones, it is a little different and cheaper but they still pay usage charges.
Just remember you are under no obligation to tell them the truth. They called you. You don't have to verify anything, just string them out as long as you can.
This is one reason they hang up so quickly. If the  call automatically goes to phone mail, it is a completed call and there is some fee associated with that but not nearly as much as several minutes of conversation until they wise up.
You can have a little fun with this and when they figure that out, they probably will scratch your phone number off their call list.
It isn't a bad idea to write down a fictitious persona, name, phone number, address, ss# and false credit card accounts including false numbers and verification numbers. If they tell you that the account isn't valid, insist that it is as you just used the card the day before without a problem. Then ask them for their office phone number and a name and address where you can mail a check.
If they give that info to you, post it on these boards. Someone who comes here is bound to live close to that address and can make things difficult for the scammers.

Ever notice that the worthless DNC (Do Not Call) list is the same as the worthless DNC (Democratic National Committee). Hhhhmmmmmm.

The problem with that is this is not a real company..they are scam artists who steal your infor (ss# CC# etc.) they call from fake #'s and are impossible to track down. It stinks but it's the truth. I am getting 2 calls a day from the Medic Alert Scam and I'm in my 20's.. so it's just not the elderly.

Great in theory. but they don't "scratch" your number off....it's a robo call and will call over and over again, no matter if you hang up, mess with they ...etc. I have tried all and they still call.

Magic Jack advertises it as a feature.
These are the places that need to be shut down by any means possible.
We would take the scammers' most valuable tool away.
And maybe, with all the offshore origins and credit card breaches, it's time for a few backhoes to get the international cables.
How much do we need this?
I am starting to block entire areas codes. To hell with them all.
The only reason I have this landline is for 911 anyway.

this auto call was offering a free alert button .. these people never give up ... i hit the 9 to be off the list ... LOL within minutes i got another call about same medical alert device from 914-530-2264 which was ID as Consumer Services

This might be the first call from this alleged number. I realize these people are calling because they are anxious to be my friends, but I am not sure that I can handle all that excitement. I mean just how many friends can one person have?


Now I can sit here to rant and rave that I am getting all these unwanted calls or I can try to put a humorous spin on it. I prefer the latter. I realize that many here are upset about these calls. Especially if you are registered with the DNCR.
But in all honesty to expect these calls to come to a complete stop is totally unrealistic. When it comes right down to it, no legitimate business is going to call anyone.
Some have commented on using an air horn. I used to agree with this concept, but then I realized that puts me on the same level as those behind these calls. Not to mention it shows a lack of maturity on my part. The fact is that people have options and one of those are call blocking devices. There are numerous models available and it is something to seriously consider.  The others are reporting these numbers to both the FTC, FCC and this very website.

I also question what AARP shares. My mom is a member and I looked over their terms and I believe they reserve the right to share certain types of information with third parties. If this is the case, I question who these third parties share this information with.

Scam call from New York.  Went into Answer Service and could hear office type work and lot of conversation.  What's a bigger complaint is wasting space talking about the DO NOT CALL LIST.  It DOESN'T WORK AND THE GOVERNMENT DOES CARE so give it a rest.  Just report the SCAM call and leave the huge story line out of it so people don't waste time with the BS Do Not Call List conversation.

The Key word here is "Scam"    if you had a clue how the DNC works to reduce sales calls from legitimate and REGISTERED with the FTC/DNC businesses who Telemarket legally.   It's posts like yours whining about the DNC  that keeps those who know how it works,  attempting to explain to people  like you,  who  haven't got a clue.

I am now at liberty for the first time to expose the state secret of what the DNC list actually is and what it can do if its power is cranked up a bit.

The DNC List is actually an electrified piece of paper on which a list of phone numbers is printed.  The DNC List also has two electrical connectors, one at each end. The first one consolidates and digitizes all outgoing call from all sources, domestic and foreign, into one huge data stream. The second connector goes from the location of the electrified piece of paper directly to your telephone. The piece of paper actually contains a mind-reading circuit, developed in government laboratories (albeit not the US government), that determines the intent of each caller making an outgoing call before your phone actually rings. If it is determined that the caller intends to make a sales pitch to you, circuits on the electrified piece of paper prevent the caller from reaching you, so that your phone never rings. Instead, the call is diverted so that it rings some guy chosen at random in Syracuse who is not on the DNC List. (The guy chosen at random was selected by the A. C. Nielsen Company, with auditing by Ernst & Young.)

As you might imagine, all the turboencabulators, gluons, and Heisenberg Compensators needed for the mind-reading circuit require a lot of power -- upwards of ten trillion watts to be more precise. That is why the piece of paper is kept in a temperature-controlled self-storage unit in Buffalo, NY -- to be near a source of hydroelectric power. You may not realize it, but fully 93% of the power generated by the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant is used to power the DNC List. This power enters the self-storage shed in which the DNC List is housed, converted to 3.3 volts DC, and is connected on a third edge of the electrified piece of paper using three uninsulated #18 gauge aluminum wires.

This amount of electricity, however, has proven insufficient to run the mind-reading circuitry of the DNC List optimally. Therefore, in addition to suing the Chinese government supplier in Small Claims Court in Niagara County, NY for breach of contract (I have inside information that this lawsuit will be tried on TV by Judge Judy, although due to secrecy orders, it may be blacked out for a replay of a recent Puppy Bowl broadcast), the US government is working on building a large nuclear reactor inside the piece of paper so that the DNC List can be self-powered. To protect against nuclear meltdowns, or at least from having anyone notice one should it happen, when the entire project is finished, the DNC List will be moved to downtown Naugatuck, CT.

And that random guy in Syracuse will have to put up with even more calls.

I would not rely on the information that appears on caller id. Many of operations use software to display number other than there own. For all we know these calls could be taking place overseas.
Not to mention no legitimate business is going to take a chance a violating the DNCR.

If you are talking about the Democratic National Committee ( DNC) there is not a dime that
goes to pay for them.. " we taxpayers fund every year to the tune of millions of dollars"
is absolutely not true.. They are not government employees..
It is the same as TNC.. it is not government at all..

Anyone that cannot leave a message and the caller ID is New York you have to be crazy to pick up the phone. If it is a real caller and not a scam they leave a message. Beware do not answer this call.

Caller ID said New York.  It only rang twice, not long enough for the machine to pick up.

Yes, folks, this one's a scam.  "Free Medical Alert Button".  Riiiight.  

I got a call Mon, 8 Sep at 10:30 a.m.  No msg left.  While on the phone Thur with my friend her phone rang and she mentioned she didn't know anybody in NY and wasn't going to answer it.  I asked was it 212 a.c. and she said yes.  I told her I get those calls too.
