I have been reporting these hang up and bogas calls to The FED TRAND COMM 888-382-1222. It has been explained to me by others that these calls should to be reported to the FCC.   www.fcc.gov/complants or call 888-225-5322 instead of DNC.
I hope this info helps us all, !!  ??

Another unwanted call, unfortunately the government DNC list is a joke. We should be able to charge their number for using our phone to conduct their business.

The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. Put the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.

The DNC filed complaints are used by all agency's. You can also file complaints directly with the FTC & FCC as well.  The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

I fully agree with you. DNC is a phoney and waste of time and I think they even sell your name. A few years ago you never received calls on cell phones and now you do. I think it is because later they put out a DNC list for cell phones and then sold those numbers too. Daughter works switchboard at a company and said they even get these pest call scammers.

Sarcasm, although much appreciated, doesn't solve the problem. Hey kids, neither does the National DNC List! We've been getting calls from this number for YEARS! We keep a log of ALL the unidentified callers with tons of repeats! What would happen if we ALL went to D.C. in October for a protest rally, and burned "Rachel" from Cardmember Services at the stake in effigy? Politicians would try to ignore us, unless...someone alerted the MEDIA. You know how any whiff of scandal gives them a great big stiffy!

Let's bust this 'medic alert for seniors' nuisance.  Answer the call, get the company's name address phone and report it to the police.  Also =  FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FCC.  GO HERE:   https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form1088.action?form_type=1088B
[complaints to the Do Not Call Registry don't seem to accomplish anything!]
If the authorities get an avalanche of complaints MAYBE they'll actually do something.

"Businesses pay for every minute on the calls they make. "

There are ways around that using internet-based calling.  For example, anyone can use the internet-based Google Voice, which lets you make free calls to phones inside the USA.  There are other ways to make free calls, too.

So they may be out the time they invest in talking to you, but they aren't paying phone charges.

Considering that the people at the other end of the calls may live in countries where the average wage is a few dollars per day, it doesn't cost them much for labor, either.

The DNC list works great with legitimate companies, but not with scofflaws who break the law.

That's like saying, "Speed limits don't work."  Well, they do - they keep the traffic flowing in a range of speeds, but if someone wants to speed, just posting a limit does nothing.

"unfortunately the government DNC list is a joke. "

The DNC list works very well with legitimate companies but just how is supposed to magically control scammers? Keep in mind that a lot of these operations are located outside the USA, they just spoof the caller ID to make it look like they are in the USA.

" I ask the idiot on the phone to hold on and I lay the phone down and go back to whatever I had been doing."

I do something like that.  When we get to the part where they need my credit card number, I tell them it is upstairs and I am disabled so it will take a while for me to get the card. Then I put some "interesting" sounds on the computer (use your imagination) and put the receiver next to a speaker.  I let them listen to that for a while. Sometimes I go back to the phone and tell them I can't find my wallet but I am very interested and I ask them to hang on for a bit longer.

This is NOT coming from the real Medic Alert company, it's as scammer posing as them.  Why penalize a legitimate company for the actions of a scammer?

    Gompers replies to Furious
It is very hard to track down these scammers.

The calls may be routed through the internet and the actual people may be located in China, India, Malaysia, Mexico, etc..

Just what do you want the federal government to do?

"This is a case where the DNC needs to be updated."

Just what do you want the DNC to do?

The way it works is that LEGITIMATE businesses submit their call lists to the DNC staff and they purge it of numbers that should not be called.  This works only with honest businesses.

Keep in mind that the scammers who are abusing the system don't care about the DNC list.  They may route their calls through the internet and their call centers may actually be in foreign countries where the FCC has no control.

You'll notice that they call people of all ages. They just get numbers and call them.  There are plenty of databases available for sale.

"HOPE SOME ACTION IS TAKEN FOR A CHANGE!"

Just what do you want someone to do to deal with people who are calling through the internet, spoofing their Caller ID, and have their telemarketing centers located in other countries (outside US jurisdiction)?
