Unless we choose to give someone our number, then no, they do not have the right to call us, and that doesn't make us stupid. You must be one of those stupid people who works for a telemarketing or cold calling company- which by the way isn't a REAL job!

You saying that is like me saying it would be stupid for you to complain if I got in my car and hit you while I was driving down the road. All I'd have to say is "Well, you are the one who is stupid for being out walking/driving near where I was driving. If you don't want to get hit, don't leave your house!"

    What a moron!

Do you sign up for things but don't read the whole paper? Because that is what you did when you signed up for the do not call.  Gallup polls can call you without honoring the do not call list.  Sorry for you...

They called last night. Caller ID said "gallop poll".   They can call all they want if they want to waste their time cause I'm not answering. In fact I think it's time to put them into my blocked call list.

A couple of things to keep in mind, for those who are interested:
    1) The DNC list does not apply to polling organizations. They're not trying to sell you anything, just ask some questions. I know that doesn't make it less annoying, but it's a crucial difference.
    2) They don't have your number specifically, and no one gave them your number. Typically, organizations like this use randomly generated numbers within a specific exchange. There are companies whose sole business is to generate "random sample" numbers for these companies. Thus, even unlisted numbers sometimes get survey or poll calls.
    3) Stay calm. Smile. Laugh. If they make you mad, they won :)
They've already wasted some of your time, don't let them get under your skin.

I didn't answer the phone. I don't want to deal with someone I don't know. Plus, I can't trust anyone who wants to do a survey, even if it's from a reputable company. Nowadays, scammers will use fake numbers, and they could be anyone. So, it's just best not to pick up the phone unless you know who's calling.

I took the poll, it is Gallup.  They were taking a survey about my 'quality of life' right now.  It took about 5-7 minutes and was harmless.  I only answered because they  kept calling me.  Supposedly they were only interested in talking to wireless phone customers.....

Called the number back and there is a recording explaining the call.  It is a survey opportunity with The Gallup Organization.  Not a sales call.

I have a missed call too.  Last time it was the Gallup Orginzation calling to do a survey after I had visited my bank.  So obvisouly my bank provided the number to Gallup.

Most people who are on the DNC list don't understand that it does not apply to survey research calls.  They are not trying to sell you anything, simply collect your opinions on a product or service, therefore in order to make sure that all possible people are include, they are exempt from the DNC laws.

I don't know about everyone else, but it really irritates me when people who don't know the laws get pissed off because they think they do.  Instead of spending your time bitching and complaining on here, go read the DNC laws, and if you don't like it contact your congressman!

First call hubbub asks them nicely not to call this number, sec on time he just hangs up, third time he lays the phone down and goes about his business for 10-15 min. And then just hangs up.  Once long ago he kept a whistle close at hand and blew it into the receiver for repeat offenders; decided that was just a bit too mean. ;)

Just got called from this number on my mobile phone.  Did claim to be Gallup polls and agreed to remove my number from database.  Aren't calls of this nature to mobile phones prohibited by law (since the recipient of the call will be charged for airtime used)?  I stated that this was a mobile phone and the guy stated that "sorry, the computer just makes up the number", at which point I told him to remove the number from the database immediately.

Unpublished number or not there is a computer program that dials numbers in sequence.  If you are paying for an unpublished number and really do not have a reason to have an unpublished number you are wasting your money as far as telemarketers and pollsters are concerned.  Welcome to the 21st century.
