I think you don't know what "cold call" means if you think a follow-up call from a service provider you went to is a cold call.

Just get a cordless phone and keep it next to you so you don't have to suffer horrible pain to answer it. That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard to be honest.

If you're on the 'Do Not Call' list, that only applies to people who are trying to sell you something. It's actually a surveying call.

“Who is calling?” The calls come from Gallup, the well-known survey and polling company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. They want to ask you questions as part of one of their surveys.

“Are they trying to sell me something?” Absolutely not. They just want to ask you questions for their survey.

“Can I get them to stop calling me?” Sure, it’s simple. Gallup really isn’t trying to annoy you, so just send a polite e-mail to them at galluphelp@gallup.com asking them to block your phone number. Be sure to include your phone number. They’ll block your number so it can’t be called by anyone at Gallup again. They’ll even send a polite response letting you know when the block is in place. The only down side is that, when you hear public opinion polls reported in the news, you’ll know that your opinion couldn’t be included - much like you can’t complain about who won an election if you chose not to vote. Still, the choice is up to you.

“What kind of questions do they ask?” While Gallup is most famous for political polls, they conduct surveys on lots of different subjects like current events, health issues, leisure activities, consumer habits, etc. You may be asked questions on a variety of subjects during your one call. It’s a great way to let your voice be heard, and our leaders, like the general public, DO listen. You can see the results of many of the surveys on Gallup’s Web site, www.gallup.com

“They asked about my bank. Is that legitimate?” Yes, several of Gallup’s clients are banks who employ Gallup to conduct customer satisfaction surveys on their behalf. Bank employees may receive bonuses or other incentives based on the quality of service you report. Better service for you – more money for them – everyone wins. Don’t worry, though, your bank didn’t give Gallup any of your account details, and the interviewer won’t ask for any financial details. They just want to be sure you were treated well the last time you visited the bank.

“How did they get my phone number?” It depends. In the above example of a customer satisfaction survey, the company with whom you did business provided your name and phone number. In the case of other surveys, your number may have been randomly generated by computer. This random selection process is important for many surveys, since the random nature of the sample group allows Gallup to generalize the results to the entire population.

“Why did they call my cell phone?” Since many Americans, especially young Americans, are dropping their land line phones in favor of cell phones (nearly 15% last I heard), it’s important that Gallup reach cell phone users to include the opinions of that demographic group in their surveys.

“Why do they call me when I’m on the National Do Not Call Registry?” The National Do Not Call Registry applies to any plan, program, or campaign to sell goods or services through interstate phone calls. Since Gallup interviewers are conducting polls and opinion surveys - not selling anything - the registry does not apply to these calls. You’d probably be surprised at the number of inquiries Gallup receives from people on the Do Not Call Registry who want to be sure they are still eligible to participate in surveys and make their opinions known. In fact, Gallup gets way more requests from people who want to volunteer for surveys than from people who want to have their numbers blocked – but they’ll be happy to block your phone number if you send them an e-mail as explained above. Nobody told that to the debt collectors who consistently call me on my cell...

That's as lunatic as saying "if you don't want strangers walking in and out of your house don't have a door."  I have a telephone for my own communication in and out of my home, not for the intrusion of strangers.

They call me and then they do not pick up when I answer

Every night, calls, never leaves a message.

I recieved several call on my cell phone and if i get another one their will be hell to pay. so it better stop now. using up my minutes. I have friends in Neb

They have called every night this week during dinner.  I prefer to enjoy my evening meal rather than answer a bunch of questions.  I guess they much highly value my opinion, as they keep calling.

I receive calls at least twice a day mostly late at night. I have had enough. I am not interested in anything that they might have to say, nor will I do any kind of survey. Stop calling or we will shut you down.

Bill collectors are required to follow a written DEMAND letter   from calling your cell phone:
Send a letter to the bill collector, using Certified, Return Receipt postage (so you have proof of receipt)
Include your name, address, and account number.
Dear Bill Collector,

I am aware of the debt/ I am not paying the debt /
I am broke and will send you $2.00 per month until the debt is paid in full. /
Meanwhile, I DEMAND that you cease calling 222-222-2222, my cell phone /my work phone / my home phone.

I to would like these call's to stop

I agree! I started to cancel my home phone that I have had for years with the same number and just use my cell, but low and behold they have started call my cell. What can anyone do,but screen and not answer the those type calls. Screening get tiring too.

Not the point, They shouldn't call at all. Do you how many times I asked to have a number removed and it wasn't? I don't do it anymore.

And the spamming telemarketer speaks. Hey Telemarketer, post your home phone number here. As you say, it should be no problem. But something tells me you won't do it. :)

Bill Collectors are calling you.  It is not the real Gallup Poll but a fake call id using INC instead if Gallup Poll Corp.  Do you work for the collection agency behind the fake call?

Received numerous calls 3x this week from (402)952-4444, Omaha, NE on my cell phone.  Did not bother to answer or call it back.  'Not sure how they've obtained my cell #.
