- informed replies to Marjieper the do not call list it specifically states that it is for people calling with the purpose of soliciting goods, services or donations. employees of nci are not soliciting (trying to see something). and as such you are not protected by the dnc list from their phone calls.
- human replies to CA's-are-Losersthat is complete and utter nonsense. in a time where jobs are getting harder to find people are going to take what jobs they can get. and the pay is good. debt collectors are no morally deficient people or heartless slime balls they are people who have been hired to do a job. when you are a debt collect you are expected to call your accounts several times a day and present yourself in a way which is conducive to getting a person to pay. this does mean that you aren't always going to be the nicest person on the phone. that doesn't mean that these people are any less human or moral than anyone else. sure there are bad collectors out there who do step over the line, but that doesn't mean that everyone who has ever been or ever will be a collector is an evil person.

They call and act like they are an acquaintance; in the first place if I were to owe anyone anything I would refuse to pay just based on the tactic of deception. Also the people should know not everyone blindly gives information based on there demands, for one thing if I owe a debt I pay it directly to the person or company I owe it to via USPS by check. I for one as a matter of policy would not give information to a foreign agent, who is to say Al Qaeda would not wind up with info for fake identification or other purposes.- Caller: claimed to be Capitol One

- Rab| 1 replyEC's info is correct. My attorney has sent them a certified letter with a notorized copy of my Chapter 13 and has informed them that if they continue to call, he will file a lawsuit against them on my behalf (at 40% going back to him - God I should have been a lawyer). They have been notified of my Chapter 13 which was disputed at first by the company which hired them, however, once they reviewed my documents my attorney sent this company the Judge declined them and said I acted completely in good faith. Now, I owed this company 48K, but I also owed other companies. So, over the next 5 years, they will get roughly $17.00 a month out of the $43.00 a month I have to pay to the trust. That comes out to $1020.00 total paid on a 48K debt. When had they followed proper procedures, and worked with my debt attorney, they would have gotten around 31K. Can you say DUMB! And boy was the main company I owed the debt to pissed, their attorney couldn't believe it at first! Then my attorney showed them in writing what our offer was and that they refused it and tried to use "scare tactics". They still call - only 1 time today, but my attorney is keeping track and plans on filing shortly and told me if they keep it up they might actually end up oweing me enough to pay the debt off to the company that hired them. LOL - how is that for "Karma".

- LaurenI recongized the area code as it is next to my home. It is from Endicott, NY and it is a collection agency. I called them back and they told me I owed $530 for an American Express card. I don't own an American Express card! I told them that and they asked my name and I told them and they said it was a mistake instead it was a Capital One card. Someone in North Carolina had the same name and social security number in an American Express card and that was also in collections with their company. I was like "WHAT?!" They said that they could not give me anymore information and to contact Capital One. Which I did and they told me my account went to NCO Financial Systems (a collection agency) because I failed to pay.

webmaster@debtorsanonymous.org - James| 2 repliesI wouldn't doubt there are a few collectors who abide by the law and treat " customers " with do respect...and I'm sure they end up on the receiving end of unnecessary verbal harassment plenty of times. I worked in retail for 47 years till my retirement and have experienced countless acts of verbal abuse from a portion of customers without any cause for them to do so...but through it all I kept my peace. Some of the customers would have their purchases added to their " tabs " and never return to pay. ( Back when at least small dept. stores would carry in house credit )...when my employer would try to collect on those debts he mostly came back empty handed and once was dragged back out his vehicle by two brutes and beaten up after he tried to work out a agreement. He never would press any charges against those people though and after maybe twice of contacting other folks about their bill with no luck collecting on it he'll shrug and write them of his books. God love his heart ...he was a very gentle man and treated all with respect deserving or not. Soon after his death I say at least half of the people who did owed him showed up personally or sent checks to his widow after their conscience got a hold of them. I'll also never forget how he once forgave a generous amount of debt to a gentleman who ran into serious hard times beyond his control.
I never owned a phone till my retirement and my children insisted on me having one installed.( I never did had a desire for a phone and did not need one being I seen everybody I knew everyday ) Reckon I been out of touch with the real world for most part before then. It wasn't 2 days when I started receiving calls from a assortment of out of town or state and tollfree numbers ...quite a few of them were only dead silence or hang ups but most of the calls were what I assumed were honest mistakes of dialing the wrong number. I'll inform the caller a Mr or Mrs does live at this address or do I have any knowledge of them...but yet they still call back and became very rude claiming I am the person they are trying to reach or that I'm hiding their where abouts. That was then I had a Caller ID Display installed and it was a week later my children bought me a computer and hooked it up to the internet and with plenty of patience ( lol ) taught me how to operate everything.
I do not know for certain if the posters here claiming to be collectors for this collection company are for real or not ( I also learned this country is full of bored, mental impaired people who tend to pretend to be who they are not)..but if you are legit and honest and helpful as you claim to be ....you need to talk to your coworkers and employers who are not ! Why is it so hard for them to understand they're calling the wrong number ? Why the verbal assaults of having the law show up at my door for a debt I do not owe ( btw I been debt free for 16 years and own my home ). Why expect myself to do their leg work for them by looking up these people they're are hunting ? ...I do not receive a paycheck from them ! My state attorney had sent out letters to other collection agencies strongly advising them to stop these calls and it has work ....apparently though it seems that these collection agencies just end up selling these debts to other agencies with full knowledge the contact information for these these people they are looking for is not valid information ! Crooks will prey on even their own kind I know. Expect a letter from my state attorney as well and sell the " debt " to another collection agency just as ignorant as the one's you work for.- Call type: Debt collector
- NCI employee replies to James| 1 replyJames,
I have been here at NCI for almost a year. They write me up for being nice to people. My coworkers are all different, some are real nasty and aggressive. It is the highest stress job that I have ever had. Unfortunately the ecomomy here in Broome County is terrible.
There are not a lot of jobs that pay more than minimum wage here. I am looking for another job right now. This place put me in the hospital for stress and anxiety more than once. I do it for my little boy. He needs me to keep it together so we can eat and have a home. There are no credit cards or savings to fall back on. It's my paycheck, and oh yeah, $34.60 per month for child support.
I listen to all of the saddest sob stories everyday. Sometimes it breaks my heart to listen. All of you that read this can think that I am a liar and a crook. It doesn't matter to me what you think. What I know is that I will not be here forever, that there is something better in store for me. All I have to say is that life is a struggle and don't let it get you down. I'm sorry that my coworkers give you heck. I'm sorry that you are getting phone calls for the wrong person. I'm sorry that I get the blunt end of the stick everytime my phone rings.
On the other hand, thank you to all of the nice people that call in and pay their bills, you really keep my manager off my back. - james replies to NCI employeeNCI employee
I'm praying for you dear. Yes, tough situations can force the best of people to take what they can get despite the undesirable working conditions. Two of my daughters ( I have 7 ) had similar jobs such as yourself and both of them were on the brink of a nervous breakdown before they left and found good employers in other states ( Good jobs are also hard to find here in Michigan )
Trust in the Lord ! I know there are folks who do not believe in a loving God but trust me ...He's there ! ...and develop a personally relationship with Him ! Just between you and HIM ! I wished I found that out before my wife passed away. She was trying her best to show me but me being a stubborn man back then I choose to listen to the " Quacks " of Christianity instead which kept me from the Truth !. There's a big difference between the two Dear...and do not let peer pressure persuade you in either choice you take...its between you and God ! I hope you accept me praying for you and your son, if not I'm praying anyway ;-). God Bless You ! - Rab| 2 repliesKarma - 31 Dec 2007

I don't think so - Chapter 13 protects me from scum like you. You can't do a darn thing - nothing - notta! You guys where notified and still continue to call and that's against the law. You know it, I know it, and my attorney knows it. So now my attorney has started the filing process against your company :-) This is why people should talk to a Debt Attorney. Don't take advice from a message board - get an Attorney. After 5 years - I will have almost perfect credit because my attorney has already explained to me how to do that too and without any debt other then my mortgage. So - you get pennies on the dollar for five years, and I get to keep everything. Thanks!- Call type: Debt collector
