- jayI received a Call from this number and "a lady" that didn't introduce herself asked if this was my business and hung up after I said yes.
- CKSo, I got a call from this number the other day... I didn't answer, but checked it out here. I saw everyone calling this a scam, and saying it wasn't google. The number called back a few hours later and I answered. It was an Indian man I could barely understand; he just started asking questions about the business and never identified himself as calling from Google. Because of what I read about this being a scam, I was less than polite or cooperative and he hung up. Two days later I went to change out some pictures on my google places listing and found the error "We do not support the location." My listing has been removed by Google, no longer shows in searches (even when putting in the phone number or exact address), and now I'm having to wait between 2 and 8 weeks for tech support to get back to me. A big thank you to all of you who jumped and sounded the SCAM alarm. I'm losing business because my listing has been removed.

- LJSo my phone rings three times within a few minutes of each other with this number on the caller id. I answer it to get it to stop ringing and a man with a heavy accent asks me for my address. No introduction of himself or anything. I asked him what for then he said he was with Google Maps and they needed it to update my listing. I deliberately don't have my company address in my listing because 1. I go to my clients, they don't come here and 2. I don't want to get inundated by junk mail.
I get similar calls all day long claiming they are with Google. I hired a local company to take care of all my listings on the internet. If this is actually Google calling, I'd suggest they start being a lot more professional about it, common courtesy would include a proper introduction of yourself, and if you get a voice mail, leave a message. Even if I can't call you back, let me know who you are so next time maybe I'll answer when I see your number on caller id.- Caller: Google Inc

- Cocky GambersNot a good image for Google to be this unprofessional when calling people. Google is calling and giving misleading information, hanging up on thousands of people. It is an indication that Google Maps and Google Places will not be conducting business in a positive manner in the future. It means that nobody should invest much time or money in Google Maps or Google Places.

- DThey called once & left no message. Called back later, and when I answered, caller asked for me by name. When I asked him who was calling, he ID'd self as being from Google Maps. Indian accent.
They wanted my street address. My phone number, though also used for business, is a residential number, and he asked for me via my personal name, nothing to do with a business name. So gang, it's not just about linking your business location to your phone number for YOUR benefit! Google wants to display as much info on us as they can online.
I didn't want my home location linked to a phone number on a map for anyone to look up, so I declined to give the info and asked them not to call back. Rep sounded surprised. The age of transparency and all...my goodness, why wouldn't I want to share that info??- Caller: Google maps
- D replies to not the CIAI've never posted anything on Google Places! See my other entry from today.
- D replies to Google maps employeeThanks for this explanation. But the person who called asked for me personally, said nothing about my business name. And, as above, I never have actively listed anything in Google Places.
- business ownergoogle maps so annoying calls all the time!

- Business owner -MadGoogle frustrates me to no end... I had about 20 positive reviews last year, they then combined my 2 listings (I have 2 locations) and deleted all my reviews but 3. I then got back up to 5 positive reviews. I just so happened to check my google places today and see all 5 of my reviews are deleted! Then I get a call from 650-253-2000. I didn't get to it in time. They left me a vm of about 30 seconds of some guy breathing. Now I click refresh and what do you know, my whole listing is gone!
I've been in business in this location for almost a decade, this hurts my business in an HUGE way. My positive reviews are what gets people to call us. What am I suppose to do? start over? Find out who left reviews and ask them to do it again? We service thousands of customers, and have no reviews now. How can they keep doing this to us??- Caller: Sweaty breath
- jackit sucks. They called me and asked me several questions...hang up!

- whoruThis person called and first thing he said was "what is your address." I was like, what? who are you? He said "google maps." How can I believe that he's calling from google maps when the first thing he said was what is your address. It seems very unprofessional and strange. Also, the call is was very choppy.. seems like he called from India or something...
- Caller: Google Maps? hm..

- tiredHe said he is google and ask me if my buisness was listed in a city that I never heard of, He seem to be trying to trip me up. I told him, i dont know him and I do not give out info on the phone, He thanked me and went back to milking his cow.. He was from India?

- JohnThis phone number 650-253-2000 appeared on my caller ID and the caller claimed to be with Google. Funny that some person or seemingly two want to say it is Google or that they even work for Google. What is really SAD? If this phone number belonged to Google, I would think Google would have a page in their own search results verifying this phone number belongs to Google. Yes, I "googled" this phone number and found this page at the top of search results instead of any official Google page verifying this is a Google phone number. Given the other stories about bad English, which I also experienced with a strong accent, I say it is NOT a Google phone number. I have in fact been contacted in the past by Google because of websites I own and the calls came as expected, the line was crystal clear and so was the person with whom I was speaking.

- DancinJA foreign speaking woman just called from this number. Didn't identify herself. She just asked what our business hours were then hung up!

- DaveCaller identified herself as being with Google Maps, which matched the caller ID, and asked me for our street address. Then she asked for me to confirm our store hours and what kind of business classification we'd come under. Exactly the information one would expect Google to need in order to confirm that our Google Map listing was up to date and that we were indeed still in business. The caller was polite, the connection was reasonable (didn't sound like a cell-phone), and after I'd provided the information she thanked me and that was it. Clearly this was not phishing by a "directory listing" scammer, which is what most calls are when someone asks me to give them our address. If you get a call from this number I'd advise answering it. It's a few seconds out of your day, but you'd spend more time than that trying to get your listing back on Google if they pull it for being unverifiable.
