They called me and asked about my business and the location without identifying themselves. If these people are really from Google Map, they do a really miserable job calling somebody and ask questions without saying who they are. And if this is a business phone number, why it doesn't have any caller ID? Very suspicious.

this one IS google maps but I know what you mean about the others that SAY their with google when they're actually not, and are trying to sell you websites, etc.

I have a hard enough time trying to sleep, then I get these phone calls at 4:54 A.M! Yeah, y'all are right, very, very unprofessional, downright rude in my book.

ANY caller ID can be faked.  Just because the telemarketer uses a number that is registered to Google that DOES NOT MEAN that EVERY call you get with that callerID is  GOOGLE!!!!!

The guy called and said he was looking at my website and wanted to verify my address which he read to me.  Do you think that Sergy and Brin (Google's founders and biggest shareholders) hire and pay people from India to find my little company on the web and have them call me to verify my address??????  (Actually Google sent a postcard to verify the listing when I signed up for Analytics.)  

The telemarker scammer said he was with "google maps" an often used ruse.  I asked him where "google maps" was and he stammered for a while then I asked him where he was located.  He said India.  I told him I get about 10 of these calls a day and  if he called again I would transfer him to the FBI because he was a scammer.  He stammered and said "Yes sir  Yes Sir"

Just got a call from 650-253-2000. I checked online and called it back.  It is Google Maps. Very annoying oriental voice I could not understand requesting information.  I did not know who it was until I "googled" it. I thought it was a customer wanting a reservation and to locate mu business. They hung up on me!

how in the world can we get in contact? there are more than a few of us business owners who assumed it was a telemarketer only to later notice our listings were deleted likely over that hide the address policy change for non brick and mortar stores

I realize the folks at google are just doing their job, but i wish they would pull their heads out of their [***].  my listing on google maps/places clearly lists my business hours (now closed, and i already updated that info online) as being 9am - 5pm.  i got a call from these asshats at 4:37 this morning (saturday), and again at 6:30am.  if they had listened to my voicemail (I know they did, i got 3 second dead air msg) they would have heard my business was closed.

I got call at 6 AM. I pick up the phone but it was to late.When I open computer I recognized my business disappear from front page as before.
Every week someone from Google make a call and ask to confirm my business, and every week I answer questions about name, address and phone number of my business. And after all...
I am very disappointing with service.
It is dishonest!
What I have to do?  Probably someone know what to do? HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

Google Maps updating and ensuring that business information is consistent with the actual business.

Just got a call at my business from an indian who did not identify herself.  Instead, she claimed she was "lost" and needed directions to my office.  I began to help her by describing nearby business and when she became confused, I told her I'd go outside and wave so she could find me - that's when the gig was up:  She claimed she was trying to use a gps and needed specific directions.  I asked who she was representing and what could we help her with and *poof*, raji was gone.

Shame on you Google (if this idiot did indeed represent YOU), for using tactics like this to try and mine information.  You can bet every every call I get from you now will be blocked.  Aces

I just recieved a call from this number and couldn't hear a word that was being said. So when I got home I googled the number found out it was google maps. now I have looked at my business on maps its no longer listed and I am very unhappy at this. My business needs the work generated from google maps and I really cant afford this, I reciently got a view people I have just worked for to write reviews to try and help my rankings and now I am no longer on it! not sure if its is I made a duplicate ad thats pending and I was planning on changing its but just set it up as my business the now to get it started.

Terrible way to go about things no emails just a call that no-one could hear!!!!

This number has called me multiple times and each time no one has said anything. i just get a mouth breather on the other end then they hang up. Im not a business but a private residence.

I get this call 3 times now.. its just some guy breathing.. probably the same guy and doesn't leave a message.. Maybe he's extremely fat? Just sitting there all day calling businesses and stuffing his mouth with food.. sounds at least 450 pounds

Google calls me all the time and I tell them every time to stop calling me. I am not interested in their maps program no any other of their Greedy Money Grabbing Scams. I am so tired of Google being in my business and personal life that I have changed my search provider.

I say switch to Bing or Yahoo or Ask or any of the many other search sites.

1/21: Call was legitimate and from Google, because we changed information on our profile and they verified.
Only shows up as MT VIEW, CA on caller ID.

Could not understand a word they said. We only know our countries native language, English.

Got a call from"google maps" who wanted to updated my listing...but had no information regarding this business at all....how can you update anything without information to start with? Heavy Indian accent and had to have him repeat things constantly. Told him we do not share information over the phone like this.

That's right. It's Google Maps calling ptobably to give you a code to confirm your listing. Not picking up may mean not being listed. Don't pay attentoion to those here who would harm your business.
