- MJG replies to thedoodSHILL ALERT!!!!
This story is a fantasy!! The IRS does not call. They mail letters if there is a problem. - BobI got my third call at 9:56 am on February 10, 2015. The caller did not leave a message even though my answering machine was on. My caller ID said simply "IRS." I have been on the Do Not Call list for ten years. I guess I'll have to buy a Telezapper to get rid of them.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- KatI received a call from this number on my cell phone this morning at 9:19am, eastern time. It announced it was an automated call, twice, then gave me an 800 number to call back at "immediately", and a reference number to use. Not once did the automated message state what company or entity it is affiliated with, or what the call was in regards to. Anyone wanting to legitimately get into contact with you would leave more information than this. This is definitely a scam.
- ParkerScam alert!! Tell you u have to call them by end of business day! Clear id says IRS then gives you a case number and 877 # to call back
- bb| 2 repliesI thought it was a scam. Hubby looked up the IRS number and called. They confirmed a call was made to us earlier today. They just wanted a food up on a letter my husband was supposed to send to them. I still think its best to never give information over the phone. Just find the IRS # on their web site...not a number they provide on an automated call. Again, it took my husband over an hour on hold with the IRS but now we know the call was legit.
- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector

- Mary replies to max| 1 replyHi Max. I work for the IRS and we never call. We send letters via Certified Mail. We now have the IPL number from the computer you used on this website and your exact location. You ARE infact a scammer and you and everyone else involved are being investigated at this moment. You made the mistake of calling my cell phone while I was at work in my office at the IRS headquarters. Thank you for the information you have provided us with. See you in prison :)

- PamI just got a call from 716-206-3218 and the voicemail said it was the IRS and to "call them by close of business today" which is stupid because you can call the IRS into the evening...close of business in what time zone etc? The IRS would not state it that way...
When I called the number back, the recording said "the number you have reached is not in service.."
The IRS will 99% of the time, send letters, often certified, to make sure you personally receive them and have signed for them. They are not going to be calling your cell phone. - Curly LocksReceived an automated caller claiming they were from the IRS and that my call back in needed before the end of the work day. When I did call, I was on hold for over 5 minutes. Therefore, I hung up not inquiring more about the call.

- Ed PurpelTigerI got the message from 716-206-3218 and they system they are using is hocus pocus.. Their system started to record prematurely, and left a 9 digit reference number. However, when I returned the call, the phone number is out of service..

- TerryIn Buffalo, NY - received this robocall today - recording claimed to be IRS. Provided an 800# to call back (I didn't have a way of writing it down when the call came in) and a reference number. Said the call had to be returned today. When I called 716-206-3218 back, it is a non-working number. That was my first clue that it probably wasn't the IRS.
- Caller: "claimed" to be IRS
