1-800-331-0500 is the nationwide toll free number for AT&T wireless customer service.  If you receive a call from this number, it's usually one of 3 things.  1, a dunning call.  2, a miss-dial.  3, a sales call.

Finding it on your direct bill communication downloads section of your bill doesn't mean that AT&T is sending you that stuff, it means that AT&T is the point of contact for billing questions.  If you find you have direct bill charges from bid4prizes, motricity, flycell, or anything else you don't recognize, you can call that number to speak to an AT&T representative, or go to www.wireless.att.com/directbill.  Tell the representative that you want to dispute those charges and add a purchase blocker.  Blocking text messaging or internet will not prevent these charges, but a purchase blocker will force any 3rd party vendor who wants to place a charge on your bill to provide your pin number.  This is so you can still buy ringtones and services you want without getting this other stuff.  There is no charge for the purchase blocker, and you can add it from "My Account" on www.wireless.att.com or through Media Net on your handset.

Please be aware that disputes of this type are handled as charge backs to the charging company, and are not refunded in real time.  Usually you will see the credit on your next bill, if there is enough time between when you dispute and when that bill cuts.

This was very helpful. They even gave you a way to get it stopped. I did it and rec'd a text saying they would stop so...fingers crossed. I am not made of money and 9.99 a month for something I don't use is such a waste.

my last cingular bill showed a charge for $19.99 for a purchase my using my daughters cell phone. I called AT&T and the service rep told me that she had to have clicked on something while browsing and automatically subscribed to some kind of service. She removed the subscription but it will take approx. 3 billing cycles for the credit to show up.

To stop these text call 1-800-861-4714.  I was being charged $9.99 a month and didn't even know who this company was.  Att tried to stop it for me but was unable to.

I too was getting charged $9.99 for something I had never used. I called the rep, a very nice and competent young lady by the way, and she calmed me down. She will have the charge removed and will put a block on my account so that this does not happen again.
I guess that we have to be constantly vigilant. I wonder how many people will just pay, and continue paying. This kind of thing should be illegal.

This is the main customer service number for AT&T Mobility(cell phones).

Third party companies use this number as a way of "hiding" from people and not having to deal with angry customers.  They just let AT&T handle everything so that nobody ever knows who it is that is charging them money.  The only messages you will ever get from AT&T are FREE messages that will tell you that your bill is due, welcome you to your new phone, or that you are eligible for some kind of offer.

On another note, if you ever see an advertisement to get free ringtones or such and you accept them, 99% will subscribe you to a monthly charge.  Also, I have had friends pull a prank on me(a very expensive one) and put in my number to a subscription service.  I have also seen people put in fake numbers and not think anything about it.

I am on board with the rest of the posts.  I have contacted bid4prize3 with no response.  I am considering filing a law suit.  If you would ilke to send me your information: phone number, name and address, I will send you all the information I gather and add you to the law suit if possible and if you agree.  I will also make a general post on this web site with the updates.  All information you send me will be confidential.  I am an attorney in New Jersey and I am very upset that this type of business practice is going on and on without notice and relief for consumers.

Thank you. Robin Tolg, Esq.  (Robintolg@yahoo.com)

I called the number you suggested and I got the message that the information for that number has changed and they wanted to TEXT me with the information, now I can just see another 9.99 charge added to my bill next month.  I am going try further with ATT and see what happens.  There has got to be a way to stop this..I blocked the text message number before, and I still get the same thing about once a month.

OK  I called ATT and again they were VERY helpful, I should look at my bill closer because they have been charging me back through November.  They are crediting my account for the charges, they said it would take a month or two for the credit to appear.  They also blocked the number for me and said I shouldn't get the messages anymore.  I suggest calling AT&T.  I have to applaud their customer service, but I rarely have problems with them, so I am happy with the outcome.

I just noted that I have a charge on my cell bill for 9.99 for Motricity; in looking at it closer, there was a second charge from Upoc Netwroks, also for 9.99.  Puzzled by the charges, I pulled my older bills out and sure enough, I have been charged for this "subscription" since February at 19.98/month.  I called the number listed an it was in fact AT&T that answered.

The kicker is that the charge came through on my daughter's phone.  My daughter is 12 and uses the phone for emergency purposes only and doesn't even text!  When I sked her what I was "subscribing" to, the rep was unable to answer, but assured me that I would see a credit for the charges.

Also, I had the internet access blocked for the kids' phones, but apparently this is not sufficient to stop such a rip-off.  The rep indicated that a purchase block on the phone would do the trick.  We'll see!!!

I use my phone for voice mail and a few messages a month.  I get these idiotic things every month to the tune of $50.00 and want no part of them.  I've emailed AT&T and get no reply..  I'm emailing the Illinois Attorney General, who often sues such crokked operators as AT&T.

Got my wireless bill today and lo and behold, there is a $19.99 charge on there for a company called MX Telecom Inc.  I have never heard of this company, so I called AT&T and spoke with a rep, who looked it up and told me that this charge was refunded on 6/28, either by myself or someone on my account.  I find that very interesting, as I did not call on this prior to today and I am the ONLY person on my account.

I just sent the following email to Bid4Prizes:
"I recently incurred a charge of $19.99 on my wireless bill, and have been told that while the company listed is MX Telecom, it may in fact be your company.  I have no knowledge or recollection of having a current account with you; and I respectfully request that you look into this for me to ensure that it is not your company placing the charges on my bill.  I have also contacted MX Telecom as well as Photobucket.com (another site that might be the culprit).  Please be aware that AT&T has graciously reversed the charge on my bill; and any future charges will be forwarded to my attorney for handling.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter."

MX Telecom got a similar message from me:
"I am not at all familiar with your company, so I do not know why your company name is showing up as a charge on my cellular phone bill; AT&T has also stated that they have no knowledge of why your company is showing up, and they have graciously reversed the $19.99 charge.  Could somebody please be so kind as to advise me why your company is slamming my cellular phone for $19.99?  I have never signed up for anything with your company and can see no justification for these charges.  The charge was posted on 6/17/08 to cell # xxx-xxx-xxxx.  Unless I receive validation of the charges, I will continue to dispute them with AT&T; furthermore, if they continue to show up without my authorization, I will be forced to bring the matter to my family attorney for further action.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter."

With Photobucket, I simply cancelled my account and gave them a similar message (which my computer neglected to save, LOL).  I would dearly love to see this MX Telecom go under; maybe we should all slam them with unwanted emails so they get the hint.  LOL

I received 2 charges from 800-331-0500 on 6/16.  One was $9.99  and one for $19.99.  When I called AT&T the rep took off the charges, but had never heard of this number before.  I was logging onto this site as I spoke with her.  I informed her of some of these postings, so she may be more familiar next time.  I still do not understand what this number is and I can't call it to see because I only have my cell phone!  Now I am on hold again to see if they can block this number!

AT&T frequently charged me for nothing.
I had to fight to get my money back.
800-331-0500 is ATT number. My daughter was charged for
this. I had no idea what happened. I call to find out.
As usual, to fight to get money back.

    ATT sucks.

You call 800-331-0500 and tell the customer service person that you don't know where the charge is comming from.  The subcription may be from a recycled number.
