I never accept a call from 1-800-331-0500 because they added a charge to my bill from AT&T for $9.95 for a service I never requested. AT&T reversed the charges, but the scam exists anyway and many people don't look at their phone bill carefully enough. This company ignores the fact that I am on the National Do Not Call List and, from what I am led to believe, they are either a part of AT&T or they serve as a billing service for them. All this started when I registered online for 2 new cell phones I got from AT&T and I checked a box indicating I wanted emails for updates in products and services. I won't make that mistake again.

Had this charge on my cellphone bill for 10 months ebfore I caught it from Motricity. Called Motricity and they are sending me a $9.99 check in the mail (2-3 weeks) called AT& T and they were able to reverse the latest charge.  Also made sure Motricity put me on a "Never" add my number to your system again.  We will see how it works. Motricity's number is 1-800-861-7414

    ditto & ditto.

Daughter's phone picked up a 19.99 charge for no known reason.  She's 18 and doesn't recall responding to any solicitations; no ring tones, wall paper, game cheat codes, etc.  In my case, my ATT/Cingular bill references two vendors:  the description was "SJAMOBILE:98550#1010".    If you google SJA Mobile you'll find they are a mobile phone marketing company whose customers include Disney, ATT, Kobe Bryant, the FBI, Kanye West (weird mix).... http://www.sjamobile.net/   Further, on my bill the transaction type was "Mblox".   http://www.mblox.com/ Mblox looks like a billing company.  The ATT customer service rep was courteous but could not explain what was bought and couldn't confirm the companies involved.  Refund was immediately offered ... in 1-2 billing cycles.

I'm curious if ATT gets a cut of these transactions.  They must at least get paid for the customer service call center support and the bill collection.  I'm beginning to think they are also getting a profit from these transactions.

    >> tell them to block your phones
I blocked all 3 family phones for any further solicitations.

Class action lawsuit sounds good to me.

    p.s.

SJA mobile has a cancellation web page, and they say they will offer direct refunds to consumers.

I got a call on my home phone this morning from this number.
They ask for Loran Green. My reply to them, "I'm sorry" he is in a meeting with Michael Landon and Dan Blocker at this time.
I did call the number back later and got a message. Message did state they are AT&T wireless. I do not have AT&T wireless.

I see a charge on my MasterCard account for $72. The reference info on the transaction line is "ATTM *1506xxxxx 800-331-0500 TN ". (The xxxxx replaces my actual account numbers.) This is a legitimate charge; it is for my AT&T Wireless Service. I got no problem.

I had a similar experience happen on my last bill.  I added a line awhile ago and my friend uses that one. On 6/25/08, on her line, there was a charge neither of us had ever heard of or knew about for $9.99.  The Merchant's Name was OpenMarket and the description was from Predicto, though the contact number was this AT&T service number, 800-331-0500.

Googling Predicto says it's some mobile game/contest site, but my friend's never been there and has never entered her number in anywhere.  Yet the AT&T bill said she'd downloaded/purchased something.  My friend's phone is old and incapable of internet, she never buys ringtones, and she doesn't text.  She did recall *receiving* a couple of weird texts from an internet company, which she replied 'stop' to, but we're not sure how they got the number in the first place.

I called AT&T and they were nice about it and removed the charge.  I also had a purchase blocker put in place.  Replying here so that others will be aware of the scam company names OpenMarket and Predicto.

(This seems to happen to a lot of people who have family plans or multiple lines.  I have to wonder if this is because these are easier to target somehow or because these scammers think those people are less likely to look closely at the entire bill?)

Here we go again - more scam calls.  If I hadn't been watching the bills, I'd have missed the $9.99 charge (10-something, with taxes no less) for this alleged mobile download or purchase from "OpenMarket".  When I called AT&T to have this bogus charge removed (and yes, the number above is their customer service number even though it shows up as attached to the OpenMarket vendor when listed on the bill) the operator tried to convince me that my Dad had done something to initiate the service.  Dad knows how to open the phone, accept a call, and dial out - that's it.  He certainly isn't surfing the net on his phone looking for additional services!

I just found charges from Bid4Prizes3 (Motricity) on my son's cell phone too.  Six months worth!!  I called the number listed (which is AT&T) and they said they would cancel it, but they couldn't tell me what kind of subscription it was.  My son has no idea what it is either.

I dialed the number you suggested and guess what, it's been changed.  They give a directory assistance number to call, but I'llprobably get charged for that too.

I kept getting $9.99 charges for the past 3-4 months. Well this last bill had THREE $9.99 charges on it. I'm getting tired of paying these charges that I have no idea what they are from. The descriptions on these downloads are: Thumbplay, FREEZEMOB, and Predicto. Never heard of them!

I called the number on the bill (1-800-331-0500), which is ATT and talked to a sales rep. She told me that these subscriptions come from when you download ringtones, give out your number online, or even vote for American Idol. Something attaches to it and starts charging your cell account with these subscriptions. She cancelled the subscription for me and will credit next month bill for the charges I had to pay this time.($39.99!!) So hopefully it is done with now!

Same story as everyone else. 9.99 as a "download charge". That's funny, we don't even have internet access on our 5 phones. Ant the ATT customer service lady confirmed that. How stupid does ATT think we are. Think about it. If they get away with this little scam 100,000 times  nationwide per month at $10.00 per pop, guess what, somebody screwed the consumers for one million dollars. And I thought our government was crooked. And our bank and lending operators. Look at these guys. Talk about crooked. Every month I am calling ATT to "fix" my bill. Looks like something there is very "broken". One more month and I throw in the towel with these people.
