- mickejayThe call I received is legitimate but the actual sale was a fraud. I agreed to have info about a payment protection plan sent to me and for verification gave my city of birth (the only thing I was asked for). I called Capital One back directly because that seemed strange.
They had a record of the phone call but stated I accepted enrollment into the plan...Furious, I started on my tactical phone arguments acquired from years of dealing with these billion dollar service companies only to be on hold at the very moment. I told them I want someone to call me back when it was fixed and they wanted to transfer me to the payment plan people because I would have to call back in a week to cancel. So I'm still on hold and probably will be for a while. I'm sure that I will have to call back several times which I have already explained and will likely also explain that I would like to bill for the time I have put into waiting on hold.- Caller: Capital One (Payment Protection)

- JenniferThis is the number on the back of my Capital One card. I called the number back and asked them to remove me from their telemarketing list.

- s.sanchez replies to asscattht number is correct because i work for capital one and i work in the activation dept and the reason we ask for your date of birh and zip code is for security reason i hope you would not us to give your informationout to just anyone
- Matmoh03Calls at least 3 times a day!!! So I decided to call back and see why they've been calling me. Well, i get an automated answer stating "Welcome to Capital One. Please enter your 16 credit card number now." Well, I wanted to play around and i entered 1234 1234 1234 1234. The message system took me another set of options, something like account inquiry and a few other options. I chose Account Information just to see where it would take me. It then prompted me my social security number; I entered 123456789 and I was able to talk to someone. I yelled at them not to call me anymore.

- sick-of-annoying-solicitorsThis is a legitimate # for cap 1. However, if you call them, wait for the option to press 0 then tell them to remove your # from their solicitations. They say it will take several weeks to remove. But be careful what info you give them.
What else can we do? They are annoying!!! - elithere is a program available online called "caller ID faker" which allow you to enter any phone number you want and it will display it on the caller id of the receiving end. so you figure it out.

- jess replies to AnnoyedUpstateNYexactly if it was important they would call ata decent hour also they would leave a message i keep getting call by this number over and over again but they do not leave a message and i do not feel comfertable giving my card number out just like that and they always call at ridiculaus times.
- Marla MarcumI get calls from this number almost daily (usually just after 9am). I don't answer anymore... they never leave a message. It's annoying. When I have answered in the past, the caller has hung up.
- LYNNKeep getting calls from 1-800-955-7070 asking for Dan. Told them there's no Dan at this number and you're calling the East Coast. She said she'll mark her records.
- JoeI got a call twice from this number. They babbled on about confirming my zip code which triggered alarm bells. I asked them to dial another number because my cellphone battery was low. They refused to take that number and I simply dropped the call.
- Open Wheel Race FanI cancelled my account with Cap[tial One after they informed me that they were changing my fixed APr of 3.99% to a variable of 14.99% + Prime. @$ hours later...I have been receiving 2-4 calls DAILY. My service provider blocked this number for free.
I suggest calling your phone provider and blocking calls from 800-955-7070. It is free and stops the calls. Additionally, contact the Do Not Call Registry and report the abuse.- Caller: Capital One

- AMINReceived call around 7:53PM ET. it was a bit suspicious because it's after business hours, I understand it's still business hour in the Pacific Zone. Anywho, Male caller introduces himself as a capital one and wants to verify my info on his system. First thing he asked for is my billing zip code. I asked him "you called me, why don't you tell me what my zip code is. He told me he can not see anything on the system until i verify my zip code, billing address, phone number, DOB and SS. I told him sc"screw your, I'm giving out any info until you tell me what my information" He tells me "Sir, this call is being monitored, you can not use language like that" I told him "Screw you and you monitor system as well" and hung up on him.
Your credit card company and banks will never call you unless there is a suspicious activity. The will have all the information and will verify when you ask them. Good Luck to all that have given out personal informations...- Caller: Claims to be Capital One
- FrustratedThe number called me this morning around 1000am. I do have a cc with Capital One, but my balance is zero. I find it weird that they call and do not leave a message. Even if it is an automated response or something, most companies will leave a message. I feel like this is a scam. When you call cc companies they will say to enter the last four digits or to hit zero for an operator. I called the number back and was asked to enter the 16 digit account number... No thanks! I am not getting scammed into something! I've already had my bank card numbers stolen by a previous employee and had my accounts drained.

This number had been calling me for 3 days in a row. I usually ignore calls from numbers I don't recognize, but thought I'd see what was going on as it was three days in a row.
The caller knew my name and claimed he was from Capital One and wanted to verify my zip code. I immediately said, "Thanks for the call, but I'm not interested in any offers." Normally when this happens with LEGIT telemarketing calls, they are still overly friendly and thank me for my time anyway.
This guy was a RED FLAG because he started having an attitude with me. He said he would be unable to tell me remove me from the list until I gave him my zip. I told him that it was illegal for him to keep me on the call list when I specifically ask him to remove me. He started getting very aggressive and started threatening that I would keep receiving these calls until I gave him my zip. His unprofessionalism and aggressiveness already made me suspicious, but I decided to test the waters.
I asked to speak with his manager and he refused (RED FLAG). I then asked for his name so I could try calling Capital One directly myself to: A) Verify this guy is a real employee and B) To complain to his manager about his attitude and aggressive behavior. He said his name was Paul and refused to give me his last name. I know that a lot companies withhold last names for security reasons, so I asked for his employee ID instead. He started stuttering and muttered something about not having one. Before I could explain to him how shady this call seemed, he said to call the number on the back of my card if i have any questions and hung up. SHADY RED FLAG
The feeling I got was that I my credit card account and phone number was phished. These thieves knew i had a capital one account, knew my name, but needed some pieces of key information (such as my zip code) to fully utilize the data they had so far.- Caller: Supposedly Capital One

- Annoyed CAI called the number on the back of my Capital One card (800-903-3637)to verify the number that called me (800-955-7070) and to complain about the Paul guy that called me if it was.
The lady at Capital One did confirm that the number that called me was one of their numbers. She checked my account and she did see that a call was placed to my number at the time that I mentioned. HOWEVER, she made it clear that it did seem extremely odd that a call was placed to me by an associate (not an automated call) and no notes were left as to the reason behind the call. I let her know that I was suspicious that this guy was trying to steal information from me. He also took it a little too personally when I said I wasn't interested in any offers. Also, when I mentioned that the Paul guy said they didnt have any ID numbers, she said it was odd because she could see his ID number right there. She said she would file a complaint on my behalf.- Caller: Capital One

I am very disturbed by three telephone calls that I have received concerning my account with Capital One over the past couple of days.
1. In each instance the caller represented himself as calling on behalf of Capital One (Caller ID: 1-800-955-7070)
2. The caller asked if I had received my new Capital One renewal card -- to which I answered "Yes"
3. Each time they then proceeded to ask me for my DATE of BIRTH and ZIP CODE (for starters) - to which I responded that I do not give my personal information (for obvious identity theft reasons) over the phone to any unsolicited callers.
4. The last caller told that I had to give him this information over the phone or my card would not be activated -- to which I responded "I will activate my card when I feel like it -- or maybe not at all-- and to please QUIT CALLING me."
5. This last party stated that he would keep calling me until I activate the new card -- (and the old card doesn't even expire until the end of October, anyway.)
What's up with this -- and I have two questions:
1. Are these telephone calls legitimate from Capital One?
2. If so, does Capital One realize the potential violation of customer personal privacy they are attempting to effect these kind of unsolicited phone calls to your customers?
I also belong to LifeLock -- and patiently awaiting their reply.- Caller: Unknown - said out of Texas
