What did they say to you. I just received a call from them earlier

I received a call from 1-864-413-4219. They left a voicemail telling me it was Detective Nicholas Carver with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. I called the Sheriff's Department and there's no Detective Nicholas Carver there, but there's one with the city police. Called the city police station and was told that there's a scam going around. Before I took these steps, I talked to "Nicholas Carver" and he told me that the parents of this 5511 number were coming in in the morning to press charges against me for sexting with their underage daughter. But that he was going to give me their number and have me call them and talk it out with them first because that's what they wished. I called this number and talked to the "father" who told me that his "daughter" was in the hospital after slitting her wrists, and that they didn't really want to press charges against me, so if I paid half the hospital bills, everything would be alright. He wanted me to moneygram the money through walmart, directly into an account. This is the point that I called the Lexington police department to see if I could get ahold of the real Nicholas Carver or atleast find out more about what the hell was going on.

I meant 1-803-413-4219. Also, the second number they had me call was 1-864-923-5511. I paid to reverse search both of these numbers, and the 5511 belongs to a James Reeves, and the 4219 to a Kimberly Neely. Neither one a detective Nicholas Carver.

I'm currently waiting on a call back from the Lexington Police Department. I will update you as soon as possible.

Scam.  Just another way to try to extort money from people.

That's still a scary call to get. I'm like woahhhhhh now lol.

That's what they hope to do - scare someone enough that they won't think about the fact that if you've broken the law, the cops would just show up - they wouldn't call and ask for money!  Glad you didn't fall for it!

BTW, the number you originally listed at the top of this thread is a Verizon Wireless Mobile phone in Columbia, SC.

Yeah, I just noticed that too. I also dug deeper into it. His daughters name that he gave me was Kayla. And according to the records I found, he does have a relative named Kayla Reeves in her mid twenties. which im guessing is his daughter, and definitively not a minor.

Yeah I just received this same call It. They didn't understand that Im in the military and in a deployed location so I couldn't do anything anyway.

Was your case pretty similar to mine? Being that I've already gotten the police involved, other accounts might help them out. Also, thanks for your service brother.

Alright, I just got off the phone with the Lexington Police Department who says that there is no Detective Nicholas Carver that works there. Called the Lexington County Sheriff's Department back today as well and talked to someone who told me that there is a bunch of scams going around where people are impersonating officers that do actually work there and calling to inform people they're being charged with crimes. And then somehow getting you to pay the counseling fees over the phone to avoid jail time, as well as the scam we're facing, where they're claiming that you're being charged with a sex crime with an underage girl, and somehow getting you to send over money. In our case through these fake parents. Of course, she said do NOT send any money whatsoever, to anybody. Which I think we've figured out. But she also said, as was pointed out above, that if there was actually a sex crime being committed with a minor like that, that there would be no "might charge", there's no choice but to move for a conviction, and the first you would know about it, is when they're showing up at your door with a warrant. Apparently this is a pretty big issue down in Lexington right now, and I'm not the first to call it in.

On another note, the Sheriff's Department says that there is a Nicholas Carter that works for the city police, but when I call the number that they give me, I'm told that there's nobody by that name that works there. So, while I would have actually liked to talk to this Detective Carver, mainly just to hear that his voice sounds nothing like the person I talked to on the phone before lol, it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

I know the call made me nervous, that's for sure. Whether it's true or not, just the possibility of being charged with a crime like that can forever affect your life, even without a conviction. And it looks like that's what they're playing off of. That fear. But I hope that this post has atleast helped somebody out there out and saved them from forking over money. And I'd definitely be interested in hearing what other stories people are getting from this number, or even if it's the same one. Maybe if we get enough people looking at them, we can stop atleast this one scam from happening. If not, atleast slow it down.

Oh, I've also repeatedly tried calling this number, from a different number than I was contacted at, to see what he says when he answers the phone. But big surprise, no answer, and no voicemail set up.

Mt brother just got the same call.with the same number and detective and description. He was freaking we have called all counties and no one has a detective with that name but one police station in Columbia SC said their computer has been hacked. Its a scam for money! Except he said the dad's name is Mr. Scott and his daughters name was Rebecca!

I'm glad you guys figured it out too. It's horrible what these people are doing. And I can imagine it's working on more people than it isn't.
