Called saying they were Capitol One Fraud department. Even gave me a case number. Funny!  I don't have any cards or accounts with Capitol One. It's phishing. Don't get scammed. Don't give them any information. Just don't answer or hang up.

Called by "Todd from Capital One" re: "application fraud".  Returned call and Sierra answered asking for my soc. sec. number and dob.  I said I would call back with the number on my card and didn't give out further info.  They gave a fake case number.  I then called Cap One Fraud department through number on my card, and they didn't know anything about it.

I got a call from  855-522-7663 too. I actually made an application to Capital One a few days ago and so I called back. Give them my name and the "claim number" that they made up. I also accidentally gave them my date of birth. Whoops! They put me on hold saying that they're going to generate some multiple choice questions about my life that I should answer. 2 mins later they said their computer system is down and asked me to call back tomorrow morning.

I got a call the day  after I submitted a credit card application. If you cris reference with capital one directly, they may not always communicate effectively with their fraud department to know there was a call made to you. I'd think it's legit, but sure, call capital one directly anyway.

This is a scam. I called Capital one, they have zero knowledge of this number. I was fool enough to verify my information.

I applied for a Capital One Venture card yesterday that needed more time to give me an approval or denial. Got a call from this number a few minutes ago. Didn't ask for anything beyond verifying the last 4 of SSN an did I in fact submit an application. Checking on potential fraudulent applications. Quoted the same time frame for a response. They were able to verify the email address entered during the application.

I received a voicemail with instructions to call back this number and was given an "application number". I called Capitol One back directly and was told there was no account associated with me. But, the weird thing is that there is a "hard inquiry" on my cred it score from Capitol One. So confused.

They gave me a fake claim # and requested I call back. I called capital one directly and they said this has been an unfortunate going thin the last 6 or so mos. and that I should put a fraud alert on my credit report immediately, which I did. I then checked my report where someone tried to open many, many diff accounts in my name, a few from Capital one actually! SCAM watch out!!

Seems legit. I called them back - gave them their case number, said someone was trying to take out a card in my name. They wouldn't give me info I didnt give them info. I did go straight to my credit report and found that Capital One had just checked my credit via Experian. That access to a reporting agency made me buy it. But I still would not give info - but they didnt ask. Except if I had requested a card.

NOT A SCAM. Left a message on my machine with a 14-digit application number.  Thought this was a scam call at first as well, since I did not submit an application with Capital One.  As I was leery about calling this particular number back, I contacted Capital One customer service, and they verified that this number does, in fact, belong to their fraud dept.  Glad I did, as someone had just tried to open an acct with my SS#.  Just placed fraud alerts with the three credit bureaus in case they try again.  Do yourself a favor and don't ignore this call.  If you've received this message and have not applied for credit with them, chances are your identity has already been compromised, and you will immediately need to take the appropriate steps to protect yourself.

Called me and alerted me that someone out of state was applying for a CC in my name with my SSN. Cancelled the application and helped me contact the credit bureaus to put a fraud alert out.

This is legit.  Your card cannot help you because this is Capitol One verifying an application for a card.  Someone tried to open a fraudulent card in my husband's name using my cell number. They did not ask for identifying information.  They shut down the application and will remove the inquiry from his credit report.

Left a voicemail claiming to be from the Capital One Fraud department.  I called Capital One directly and they verified this call was a scam.

I reported this to their Fraud Department (real number is 800-215-1921) and also reported this with an email and a copy of the voicemail to abuse@capitalone.com.  Hopefully something can be done about these scammer scum.

This is a complete fraud.FIRST, you have to consider when have you e v e r called this type of number and received the SAME PERSON, EVERYTIME.SECOND, when you google the number it says not valid.which means it is made with an App.THIRD if you have your account set up with capital one correctly, they will contact you multiple ways (phone, email, online cap. One account message) to let you know of a fraudulent application.LASTLY, and let's be serious.ask yourself this question, Did you apply with capital one in the near past?if you haven't..call capital one..keep eyes on your credit report..and if you are that nervous, get a pin on your social with IRS, so that any inquiry for any company has to go through you first.

Again this IS a fraudulent number.this is NOTcl capital one
