I applied for a Cap one credit card and received a message to call this number to verify my identity the next day. I thought it was shady after looking up the number and reading comments. I looked up the cap one official website and called the number listed there as their fraud dept. (800)239-7054 After explaining that I didn't trust the number, the rep put me on hold and researched the number and verified that it is in fact a separate fraud dept for new applications. Which is separate from existing customer fraud numbers. This number is legit, so if you didn't apply then it would be wise to call them and report that you did not recently apply for any cards so they do not process an application in your name. Hope this helps.

I applied for a Sony Visa card which is issued by Capital One a few days ago. They said they would send me a letter in the mail with my final approval or denial. Two days later I received a phone call from this number which they left a voicemail regarding my application. I called the number back and they asked me if I had applied for a Capital One card. I said yes I did and they said they would need to verify additional information to proceed with my credit card application. They asked for the last 4 of my social and asked me to verify my address and then asked me about 3 security questions based on my credit profile. They then stated I would receive a letter in the mail whether I was approved or not. When I hung up I had a bad feeling so I called back and got another person gave them the last 4 of my social again and ask them what card did they show I applied for. They indeed told me that it was for a Sony Visa Rewards through Capital One. This is their application fraud department not to be mistaken for their fraud department which is listed on the Capital One website. Capital One has many different phone numbers and addresses which they use for different types of credit cards. I also called Capital one's fraud department from the Capital One website and they've never heard of this number so I can see why people would be alarmed or confused. I also received a letter in the mail from Capital One which is legit. In my opinion Capital One needs to make sure all their employees have a list of the phone numbers for every Capital 1 credit card because they are not giving the right information to the consumers.

This number is legit from Capital One Application Department, checking to verify that I was the one who submitted an application recently. I had just yesterday. Now my app will be processed. I then received a email thanking me for verifying my request from Capital One.

Received a call from this number 2-3 days after completing an application for a Capital One card. Said they were from Capital Ones Application fraud department. After reading the most recent comments on here I decided to call back - the automated voice sounded just like all other Capital One calls I’ve made. Anyway they asked me if I recently completed an application and I said yes then they asked me to verify only my name and DON. Put me on hold to “read the application notes” then came back and said since I verified I submitted the application they would go forward with processing and if approved I would receive the card in 7-10 days.  If those were scammers they suck since they didn’t get any useful information out of me (aka I don’t believe they are scammers).

LEGIT NUMBER! If you receive a call directly from this number 855-522-7663 with an application ID number, do not take it lightly. SOMEONE IS USING YOUR IDENTITY TO OPEN A CARD. My dad received a voicemail and apparently someone got a hold of his identity and is trying to open credit cards. Good thing I call back to remove the application. The customer service rep will recommend to put fraud alert at the reporting agencies.

This appears to be a legitimate number.  After receiving a voicemail from this number, I called Capital One (using a number from their website) and found out someone had submitted an application in my name. As others have mentioned, the representative I spoke to immediately canceled the application and recommended that I file a fraud alert with the reporting agencies.

Mixed reports about this number on who is calling, so always be cautious of anyone who calls you unexpectedly.

Keep in mind, just because a number is legit, doesn't mean the caller is!

Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.

If it is a legitimate call, then anyone receiving a call would know WHY they got a call from this number, right?
So what would be a reason to come and post about it to a site designed to share information about UNKNOWN callers, such as Telemarketers, Scammers and Debt Collectors?

If your call was legit,  telling about it won't  be any comfort to those who may get a spoofed call from some scammer!

I believe that somehow they've hacked or found a way to get a lot of information from capitol one's system...  I received a denial of a credit card by email from capital  one the same day I applied.  Then I got a call today from this number with an Indian sounding guy on the line.... The real capital one really did check your credit. I'm sure of it

Received a call from this number to verify a application I made last night. Asked for last four of social. I verified and asked a few questions. Didn't notice the caller id until I hung up it said JAC roofing and exteriors. when I call the number back I get a standard capital one automated system. That obviously can be faked so i spent the next half hour slightly panicked calling phone numbers from the capital one website. When the automated system asked what account I was calling about It listed two. I only had one card and applied for another. I chose the one I recognized. The fraud department had on record they called me this morning. And the additional account listed was my new card they just approved me for. THIS IS A LEGIT NUMBER. I get the inkling that capital on contracts out things like this to another company.

This is NOT a scam. I called the 800 number for Capital One's fraud department. The lady verified that it was from another department, within Capital One, that only deals with new credit card applications. It took her a minute or two to verify the number. But, it is legit.

Far too many people reassuring others this is a legitimate call. We know its a legitimate NUMBER, but its not useful to know WHAT your legitimate call was about. Scammers lurk in the shadows and capitalize on info when its to their advantage.

This site is aimed at exposing scammers, shady businesses, telemarketers, survey calls, political calls and other unwanted types of calls. Its not about who owns the number (like a phone directory) or what they did for you (like an advertisement or review). If you see who it was and say to yourself, "Ah, ok, I know them", then why post all about the experience of your call at that point, since it is not an unknown/unwanted call anymore?
Posting who the actual number belongs to is not the issue, its the detailed posting about those legitimate calls that are of no use to those who come seeking who called. Just knowing who the number belongs to is generally more than enough if they are a customer or had some relations with them to know who called.

The problem with posting detailed posts on legitimate calls is scammers come here to shill about the numbers they spoof and convince call recipients its ok and everything is legitimate with the number. So when someone posts "its legitimate", its warranted to post that scammers spoof legitimate numbers, especially when several people post about how legitimate the number is.
Numbers that are getting numerous  "legitimate" posts are targeted numbers for scammers to spoof and those posts just make it easier for them to scam with, since anyone looking up the number will see all the people saying how legitimate the call was and all those "legitimate" details are information scammers use to their advantage.

I applied for a Capital One credit card and the following day, I received a call from this number asking for me to call back to verify my identity. The voice mail explained to reference my application number, which she stated on the voicemail. When I called, the person asked for the last four of my social and said they will mail me Capital One's credit decision. I became suspicious that this call may have been a phishing scam so I called Capital One directly at 1-800-227-4825. Capital One verified the call from 855-522-7663 was legitimate and not a phishing scam. Capital One's fraud department at 1-800-427-9428 did not have access to my information so they were no help. But Capital One's customer service was able to look up my credit card application, verify the application number (this matched the same number the person from 855-522-7663 left on my voice mail), and that they were the department that called me from 855-522-7663 . If in doubt, call Capital One directly (google its customer service phone number).

Asked for my birthdate or last 4 of my ss#. I asked them to mail me a letter to verify the fraudulent activity and they said they couldn't do that. Total scam. Don't give them any info.

Why would someone come to this website and confirm that this is a legit phone number? You would have no reason to if it was.

Hi, I received a call this afternoon from the Capital One Fraud department asking to verify whether or not I placed an application with them. I was hesitant to provide them with any information and I hung up. I called Capital One and spoke with Customer Service and verified that 855-522-7663 is a active number from the Fraud Dept. I was then transferred to the Fraud Dept. and they verified that they did verify that the number is correct and that they did try to call me.
