This is a verified number for Cap1, also verified the fax number. I did request a cap1 card and they needed to verify my identity. I called capital one customer service to confirm before I sent any information. I think the issue here is people are getting calls on cards ((THEY)) didn't try to open. In that case they're actually doing their job correctly..

This is a totally LEGIT number belonging to Capital One’s fraud application department. I recently applied for a card and received the 7-10 day decision in the mail message. The following day, I answered this call and was given several security questions from my credit profile to answer. After they verified my identity, I was immediately approved for the card.

This is the Capital One fraud dept. I didn't call this number back, instead I called the number on my card and they confirmed someone tried to open a card with my social security number and it was their fraud dept trying to call. Call the number on your card to cover yourself.

I just called Capital One's legit number and this was NOT a scam. They were able to tell me who called and what number they called from. I recently applied for a card with them and they were doing exactly what they said they were doing--verifying my application.

Called today - Sunday!  Said from Capital One Fraud Dept.  Asked if we recently applied for a card, which we had.  Then wanted last 4 digits of social security number to verify.  I then stated I don't think we should do that.  He said we could go on line and find a phone number we were comfortable with and call them back.  The on line numbers begin with 1-800 not 855 522 7663.  He stated his name was Hunter and gave his operator ID number of YOF293.  We got on line and discovered it was a scam call.

Received back to back calls from this number. The number belongs to capital one's application department, but scammers are able to contact you using whatever number they want. They use this number to make the call believable. Capital one had no idea I was being contacted. The caller never a left a message, and capital one ALWAYS does. I was also informed me that Capital One NEVER makes outbound calls requesting a verification of personal information. IT IS A SCAM! If you don't believe it, just give out your info and there will be random things popping up on your credit report.

Fraudulent people - SCAM

I received a call from this number at 10:22am today.

I called Capital One directly at a number I found on their website.

The person I spoke with tried to find the right department for me to speak with.

It turns out that the people in the Credit Application Fraud Department don't even work on Saturdays!

He advised me NOT to call the number that had called me, but rather to call back directly to the published Capital One number on Monday during the hours when someone is actually working in the Credit Application Fraud Department.  (I don't know if that is the correct official name for that department.)

Looking through this thread, people are claiming opposite things.

Some claim that Capital One confirmed the call as legit, others claim they confirmed it as fraud or claimed no knowledge.

So either this number is part of a phishing (or other) scam, or Capital One doesn't have their stuff together.

Either way - I am not ever going to call that number back.

this actually is their legit fraud number. I was worried so I called the main number and they were able to confirm what they needed.

I just received a letter from capital one saying they needed more information to process my application. I found it suspicious so I looked up the number on the letter which is what brought me to this website. 855-522-7663. Instead of calling that number I went to their website and called the number from there 800-277-4825.
This letter was legit and so was the number. I asked why so many people write online that it’s a scam or fraud and they said they can’t control what people say on the internet.
I was relieved to say the least that this was not a scam. If you reading this and worried call the number from their trusted website as I did and you will see for yourself that this is legit. BTW I spoke to the fraud department and they were able to verify everything.

I applied for a Capital One credit card via online. Rec'vd call from 855.522.7663 asking to confirm if the recent application was valid. I did verify my DOB & last 4 of SSN. Advised the application will be processed.

I applied for a card weeks ago and this number called me Saturday. I’ve called back three times and I can’t reach anyone. The longest I was on hold is 29 minutes. It’s ridiculous. I have no idea what they want and quite frankly I’m tired of calling.

It’s not phishing if they called you then some one used your personal info to apply for a credit card

Got a call from 855-522-7663.  They left a message about Capital One fraud protection and a case number.  I was very skeptical.  So I googled the number and came across these sites where people leave reviews.  Every site had mixed reviews.  I did just submit an application earlier this week so I was curious.  Look I'm a father, just bought a house, and naturally protective because I'm a veteran.  So I googled Capital One fraud department and called their number (1-800-427-9428 shown below).  They told me that it was specialist from their fraud department to verify that it was me and not someone else trying to get a credit card.  If you don't believe me, google Capital One Fraud Department yourself and call their 1-800 number.

Got a call saying a recent card was applied for. Gave a case number answered the phone saying it was capitol one

I got a letter from Capital One with an application ID (I recently applied for a cars) and the phone number 1-855-552-7663. Called the number and it took me through a bunch of “sweepstakes” I might qualify for and it absolutely sounded like a scam. Scary how they got my personal information.
