- Kat* replies to ComfortWow, another shill! No one here cares that you applied for a Capital One card so why did you look up the phone number? Now, if you HADN'T applied and came here to tell us this was a scam caller it would make sense but that's not the case.
- Steve S.I verified this number and the associated fax number, 844-456-4558, with Capital One's fraud detection department number that I got off the Capital One site. It's legit. In our case, it was to obtain a secured Capital One MC for my son. The fraud department also told me this was a necessary step for my son to get a first card.

- Randy ClarkI received a call from someone claiming to be from Capital One's fraud unit in regard to a recent credit card application. He gave me this number to call back with an application ID. First, I did submit a credit card application to Capital One, but secondly this did seem suspicious, caller ID shows Capital One as the name attached to this number but it's trivial to spoof caller ID and this number doesn't match any published customer service phone numbers for Capital One so I looked up their regular phone number and called them. I was initially told it had to have been a scam caller, but upon furnishing the application ID I had been given it turned out to be a genuine call from Capital One trying to verify that it was me who applied for a credit card.
While this doesn't mean that a scammer couldn't spoof this number and try to get personal information from you, if you did apply for credit it might be a genuine part of that process and if not, it might mean that an identity thief was using your info to try to get a credit card.- Caller: Capital One

- Zack| 1 replyReceived a voicemail from this number claiming to be the Capital One Application Fraud Department a few days after submitting a Capital One card application. The person calling gave an application number and told me to call them back. I returned the call and they said that they needed to verify my identity before processing my application. Only personal info they asked for was name, date of birth, and a picture of my drivers license. After that, my application was approved and I received an email with my account information. I verified the application approval with the official automated Capital One application status phone number along with the website, which also said I was approved. This is a legitimate Capital One number, not a scam.

- Tygerkat replies to ZackI've never heard of a credit card company wanting a picture of someone's driver's license to verify their identity. I think you're here to shill. There's no other reason for you to look up the phone number.
- Kari replies to DarrellThis is legit… I called back and they marked it as fraudulent and notified all credit bureaus to take off my credit history. Never asked for my SSN!
- CarHave received calls from two banks both saying I have applied for loans. One is Capital One and one is Citi Bank. I called Capital One Fraud - not the one from the phishing call- the one you can get on the back of your card or on line. Capital One said it was fraud and I reported as such. Citi Bank was not even interested since I was not their customer. I have a monitoring service and checked my credit and there were no hits.

- Actual capital one customerCaller id said capital one. Voicemail stated they were calling about my application. 1. My name isn’t the name they referenced 2. I didn’t recently apply for credit. It’s a scam. Please don’t talk to anyone from this number. If you have concerns about your application call capital one directly. And if you applied for credit, you’ll find out if you get it within minutes when you apply online. If you don’t get the credit you will receive a letter in the mail with detailed information.

- JJThey left a voicemail saying from Cap. One. I did call back the Capital One number on my credit card and they did send me to the Fraud dept. I verified that I did not apply for a new card. I checked my credit report and there was a new inquiry from Cap One and a new fraudulent address tied to my account. I am glad I called so they didn't give a card to the jerk.

- Not Today Scammers! This is an absolute scam. Yes they tried to apply for credit in my name, yes it was declined. That part is true. Thing is, they got my name wrong… spelled incorrectly and as soon as I heard that I knew it was a scam. I called the real Capitol One. They were as useful as a wet fish. Just make sure you talk with your real bank about it and get advice on how to handle it.
Bull [***]. People are getting so desperate to steal money that they get quite sophisticated about it.

- DianeI received an alert on my credit report that there was a new inquiry from Capital One checking my credit information and that this usually happens when you apply for a new line of credit. I had not applied for a credit card through Capital One. I then received a voicemail message from +1 (855) 522-7663 in which the gentleman said he was from Capital One’s application department to verify my recent application. I looked up the number to verify that it WAS a Capital One number and read the comments about the number being a scam. I looked up the main numbers for Capital One and after being on hold and transferred from department to department, after almost 2 hours, I finally spoke with a gentleman that verified that the number from the voicemail message is indeed Capital One’s Application Fraud team. He transferred me to that number and I spoke with Charles. Using the application number left in the voicemail, he found the information for the application and immediately put a fraud alert on my credit information. He said it would take 60-90 days for the inquiry to be removed from my credit reports. He then gave me the numbers to the 3 credit reporting agencies so I could follow up with them. If you need to call regarding APPLICATION FRAUD, save yourself some time being on hold and call the number 1+ (855) 522-7663.
