This is SPAM. Called Capitol One with the case number I was given and they said it doesn't exist. They also said that this phone number is not the number for Capitol One's Fraud Assistance department.

For me, this was a legitimate number.  Because I applied for a credit card in-person at the store and didn't have my phone on me, my identity couldn't be verified, except by a phone call to the number on my app.  The Fraud Department would do this due to all the identity fraud out there in the world.

    Capital One Fraud
I do not have an application in with Capital One, there is no pending application and no inquiry from them on my monitoring service. (I locked my credit accounts for safety) This is a fraud call to phish your personal information
Never call back the number they give you - use only the phone number on the back of your card or a published number found on a company website

    Seems Real
Used a prior married name. When I called back it sounded like a legit recording and sent me to N agent. Spoke to the agent but she couldn’t find the referenced number so I thought maybe my writing was bad. I gave her another and she said she couldn’t find that either but could look it up by my SS#. Nope. I said i would call back. My credit is locked, so there’s no way someone could put in an application. Beware!!! This seems very real!!!

Just because YOU dont have an account with them, doesnt mean someone else may not be trying to open an account under your name with them. You should gather information, and dont give any out. Then call the alleged company to see if their is an application under your name. Ive had this happen in the past. I thought it was a BS call, turns out someone tried to open an application in my name

    SCAM LIKELY
I returned the call I received form this number, after listening to my voicemail regarding an application for Stacy Williams. The rep asked if I was over 50 and stated that I was approved a Medical Alert Device. LOL.

That doesn't mean all calls are from Capital One. Or have you somehow never heard of phone number spoofing?

2023 Feb.  I also applied for a Capital One credit card online and now I'm getting calls from this number.  I googled and it does come up Capital One.  I did not answer. I do not have voice mail.

2023March  I've had repeated calls from this number.  I don't answer calls, but I think this is legitimate.  I texted them my email address, the one I put on my mailed-in application.  Apparently that was enough for them to verify that my phone number is true, because they stopped calling after that.  Never emailed me.  What I don't get is why they would ask for a SSN over the phone.

    SCAM SCAM FROUD

I missed a call and called them back.

I really applied for credit card yesterday from capitol one. Today got a call from 855-522-7663, I gave them all my personal information including SSN, I’m new to the country. I’am crying, don’t know what to do.
I only started to build my credit score.
I went to the police department.
Also made a temporary fraud alert.
Cap One fraud department confirmed this number doesn’t belong to Cap one.
    They got me.
How did they know I just applied?
    What should I do?
    Is it my end?

I did apply for a Capital One credit card and they called to verify the information - if I really applied for a card and if I am really who I say that I am (you will need to submit a document via a secure corporate link).

IF YOU DIDN'T APPLY for a credit card or if they ask for you personal information over the phone THEN it is a scam.

This number called my cell early this morning, but did not leave a voicemail message. This number was tagged by my cell phone company provider as Spam. Plenty already posted here in this discussion. Basically, never give out your personal information to strangers who call you on the phone. Call your credit card company with the number on the back of your card, or numbers on their official website. Do not call back the hangup calls (that's what they want). Blocking.
